Knight1: i'd advice you buy a Hyundai i10 brand new. twill cost you less than 1.5m, you won't need to purchase tires, do.maintenance etc for like a year of use at least. the brand.is getting popular..and.its cute.

its expensive though. but thanks, i thought about it

Inova: Gurl friend. Avoid Honda like a plague. Aside the aesthetic features and fuel economy, but check out this Honda Problems first before you consider:
1) No one said how bad honda makes ball joints on the wheels. If u don't maintain ur hondas wheels very well they might just pop out while drive embarassing the heck out of you. I'm sure u have seen a couple of Hondas with the wheels giving way on the road.
2) Honda Power steering are fantastic. Actually the best I've seen so far. But as fantastic as they are, they are very easily damaged. Power steering will be one of ur major probs
3) Honda transmission for anyone buying Auto are the worst I've seen. Couple with the fact that their replacement are also expensive as its and aluminium transmision block. Don't expect ur transmision to last. If you wanna buy honda just go for its manual transmision version to avoid embarasment.
4) Overheating is not much of a problem as it can happen to any car actually but I just don't undrstand the perculiarity with Honda

Aside all this points Honda is ok if you are ready to stomach all those issues higlighted. And trust me gurlfriend I speak the truth.

But If you want my advise. Just go for a TOYOTA product and you'll neva regret it. Most of my friend and in particular me sef switched to Toyota after enduring with Honda products

I hope this helps

This helped a great deal. Toyota for the win. Corolla, Yaris or Matrix it is then.
Thanks a lot

Taking into consideration the bad roads in Nigeria,I would advice you to buy trailer or tipper for yourself and family
Re: Advice On First Car To Buy by mafiawars: 12:35pm On Jan 18, 2013
Case closed I believe. With my budget and with the opinion and you and many other friends/family members who are car specialists, the Toyotas (Yaris, Corolla or Matrix) have won.

Buy a ride suitable for Tokunboh Palmer!

Now I know the fingers behind the keyboard.. Luv u loads!

Meanwhile go for a Toyota Matrix 2007. It looks elegantly simple!
Re: Advice On First Car To Buy by vinuyon: 2:19pm On Jan 18, 2013
@Mafiawars, I'll advice you to go for a Kia Picanto, the price is just N1.6m for the manual transmission gear model. You can be sure of no vehicle problems for the next 4-5 years and with what I gathered, the engine goes 20km on 1 litre of petrol. Check online for more information.

Cheers

if u dont like the ubiquitous nature of toyota, u could consider a nissan tiida or nissan sentra.
If u dont want to buy petrol then take a look at the nissan micra.

let me help me help you cut down your list in this order
1. Toyota Matrix
2 Honda Civic
3. Toyota Yaris
I will suggest a hatchback for the reasons u gave, and the hatch of choice here is the Matrix. I wouldnt advice you go for the Yaris since you were even considering a golf 4. For the electrical problem talk, it is just our mechanics cover up for their inabilities as i explained in one of my blogs http://101carsense..com/2012/12/why-nigerians-are-afraid-to-buy-some.html

Babe. If you need a CAR dat can serve you : fuel efficiency, rugged, strong, my simple ADVICE is dis. Go get yourself a 1996 mbenz C180. It cums in hatchback if you need. You nid beauty? Its dia. You nid fuel economy? Its got it (Japanese wey wan compete with am neva dey). I challenge all you jap users to it. Is it strong? OMG! The strongest. It dosen't die. You won't regret it.

please advice mee on 2001 toyota avalon, cos it seems the 1st advice i got from my mechanic was wrong, he toldd me that d car is known for over heating, but my friends keep telling d car is very strong though none of them is using one so please advice me on its fuel consumption, cost of spare parts, cost of maintenance, durability and if it actually over heats easily or any other frequent problems its known for. Tnx

First, you should change that mechanic cos his advise is just not good enough. This car shares its 3.5L engine with some V6 camrys except that the avalon has a more comfort tuned suspension and a luxurious interior plus a reenforced body/chasis. That you are going for the 2001 model means you wouldnt have issues with parts as such especially if you dont live in a rural area but make sure the one you are buying is in good shape b4 purchase. For fuel economy, u can hardly get better from another car of it capacity. it all comes down to your driving style. If you are ok with a v6 camry, then you will love this car.

for those who bother about v6 and other high capacity engines' fuel consumption, there is an illustration in this article (http://101carsense..com/2013/01/basic-car-management-tips.html) that shows that you can make your high capacity engine even more fuel efficient than the 1.6, 1.8, 2.0 etc cars.
