Thanks oo my brother. I am sooo glad I am not the only one who has taken note of this.

This is the same question I keep asking myself over and over again. How is it Yar'Adua has all the time to reverse
all of Obj's work but has no time to come up with his own policies ? Yar'Adua is completely bereft of ideas and the bulk
of the individuals who have ideas to move the country forward are southern folks, but he fails to appoint them due to his northern agenda.

Excellent ! Couldn't put it any better.

How many times has Yar'Adua's ministers mention one thing to the public, only for him to rescind on their decision ?

Minister of Information (John Odey) mentioned that NITEL's sale has been reversed, the presidency later clarified things

Charles Soludo was introducing new naira notes; the presidency later rejected this.

What I really want to know is - Who is really in charge of Yar'Adua's presidency ? Because he certainly doesn't
seem to be in charge at all.

I think a nation needs to go through a period of healing first, to purge out the corrupt elements first. But Yar'Adua is not fast enough and I get the impression that Yar'Adua is nothing more than a figurehead: He wants to do good, but he still bears allegiance to his masters who are the cancer that needs chemo. I could be wrong though

The truth is that Nigeria is a unique country. Our uniqueness is in our diversity and forever will it be.
If not that God's hand is over this country, little matters that tore other countries apart would have also made us refuges.
We have come too far than than now becoming victims of war.
I love this country with no respect for any prophet of doom.

JayFK:

You make no sense whatsoever, matter of fact the reasons you stated above are profoundly stupid. I don't think you fully understand Nigeria's problems or the reasons for splitting. Nigeria has over 300 different ethnic groups, most of them having no linguistic ties to the other, most of them considering themselves a nation within Nigeria. Look at all the countries through history that have split from each other, it is always because of ETHNICITY, why is Kosovo splitting from Serbia? 90percent of Kosovo is ethnic Albanian, Czechoslovakia, The Basques from Spain, Ambazonia, Quebec from Canada all of these are based on Ethnicity and Language. If you don't want Nigeria to split give a valid reason instead of doling out stupid analogies that bear no resemblance to Nigeria's situation.

Mr. JayFK "Ojukwu", You wan make Nigeria split, yet you go stay for Canada! Na wahh ooo!
You forgot that when country splits in Africa, its with blood and death of innocent souls.
I wish you mention Eritrea and Ethiopia as part of your examples.
Since everybody is stupid and only you is wise, please just promise us to that you are ready for the sacrifice,
even if it has be that of all your family members, then carry-go, we will follow your proposition lipsrsealed

You are correct. But pray, tell, why do countries in other continents split without war, but African countries have to fight wars before they can split? What does that tell you?

Germannig:

That is why splitting is not the answer here in Africa knowing that war is inevitable.
Other countries understand politics better, but our own understanding is in how to steal public funds,
hence its a matter of guns and granades; life and death.
In addition, one thing is certain about wars, you may know when it will start,
but no one can tell the end of it.
Before you know it, UN and other so called "Peace Keepers" move in and guess their destination?
Niger Delta-the very bone of contention, at least to keep the oil for you (since you are too immature to keep and share it)

I believe God knows how to settle our case and remove those "evil bugs" with time.
He has done it before concerning Abacha when people cannot voice out the mind like this.
How much more will he do it again.
Peace!
Re: Nigeria Will Split Soon! by romeo(m): 4:07pm On Mar 20, 2008
Nigeria should not split but needs a different approach like the one in Spain where each region is autonomous. Some people are pointing to wars as a reason why we should not do it, but they have forgotten that the Balkan wars led to the creation of many states, then bringing peace to the region.

The difference of that with Africa is that the people that should look into what caused those wars after the war ends never do such. Making their victories a tribal victory and leaving the vanquished in wounds and bitterness for the rest of their lives

Self determination is not a bad thing but i would prefer a system where there is a strong central government with autonomous regional governments capable of making their own economic decisions backed by law. National police force and regional police force, the military remains under central government, the Judiciary remains under central government, the ports of entry and exit under the control of central government.

Maybe when our generation takes over the helms of the nation we can make those changes cheesy

Take a look at Fashola of Lagos state. You will see that there is a Govt. in Lagos. Simple!!

Re: Nigeria Will Split Soon! by SkyBlue1: 6:42am On Mar 21, 2008
@Nigeria1 i think you are giving Nigerians too little credit. So you are saying Nigerians living in Nigeria can't be in pivotal positions in Nigeria and make a difference unless they have had some "western exposure"? Where did you draw that conclusion from? I mean, what about Dora Akunliyi? Did she have any of this "western exposure"? So we cannot be trend setters in anything or progress without using common sense? So people would need to have lived abroad before knowing that good roads are needed (south africa even has better roads than england)? That hospitals are needed ? That we need money supposedly "invested" in power supply to be actually invested? Are we talking rocket science here? If that was meant to be a defence for Yaradua then ironically it has come out as an insult on his intelligence, lol. To be honest though, after reading his so called reasons for returning the budget yet again, if they are the real reasons then i find it amicable i really do. But this is ten months into government now, so please can we just stop making excuses for him? Really. I hope the budget is passed soon so that it can begin implementation, but until then i am not going to praise a lack of performance on any front, for even things that don't need a budget to be passed.

Thanks!! You hit the nail on the head!! The best suggestion so far!!

Healing as in contracting top auditing firms to scrutinize government's {executive (federal, state. local) , legislative, judiciary} account records since 1960 and publicly prosecuting corrupt leaders as well as 'followers'.

Healing as in adopting the Chinese system of hanging corrupt government officials i.e. stiffer penalties for corruption.
Case study:
US, where Martha Stewart went to prison for insider trading.

Healing as in drastically reducing benefits of holding public office. We treat our presidents, senators, governors etc. like royalty and get little or no results.

@ Topic

Nigerians (like you) want the country to split for selfish reasons such as 'resources are not evenly distributed'. They are ignorant of the fact that the bulk of the so called resources are obtained from the highly under-developed Niger- Delta region.

The pot bellied governors of the Niger-Delta states struggle for an increment in the derivation percentage for qually selfish reasons.

RUBBISH!!!

The problem with Nigeria is the Nigerian system where the local and state governments collect rather than give to the federal government. We need to get rid of the 'Abuja Syndrome' . States need to be autonomous i.e. generate more internal revenue (by more effective revenue collection procedures), have their own Police, Fire Service etc.

A fraction of this internally generated revenue will be remitted to the federal government. Under developed states will receive loans and other forms of assistance from the Federal or fellow state governments.

This system will promote competition among the states thereby increasing productivity. If such a system can be implemented, our leaders will have more productive things to do than globe trotting and attending 'owambe' parties.

God bless Nigeria.

Posts like this really amuse me. It shows how shallow, immature and inexperienced the posters are when it comes to war and national turbulance. I know for real that those of you beating the drums of war are either frustrated Nigerians who have nothing to lose in thimes of war, or you are just being acting the script written by devil from the pit of hell. Who do you think benefits from anarchy and war? The funny thing is that those who started fire are easily consumed by the same fire. We should better learn how to live in peace now, because Nigeria will never experience war again.
Re: Nigeria Will Split Soon! by SkyBlue1: 3:50pm On Mar 25, 2008
@Nigeria1 i don't care what "region" a president or vice president or any other come from as long as it is a good president. All this seperative ways of thinking just need to stop. As long as the president will hold the vision of Nigeria as his priority and act in the best interest of Nigeria, i really don't care where he comes from. I am sure if people were all enjoying 24 hour light supply, good roads, health care, security, a growing economy, job availability, industrialisation, etc, people won't have time to analyse issues such as where the president came from.
Re: Nigeria Will Split Soon! by detruth: 8:30am On Mar 26, 2008
Nigeria1.:

How the system above would work is , every party would present a president and 3 vice president , When anything happens to the president the vice pre from the same region take over. Now we have President yar Adua, The PDP should nominate One person from region 1 and Vice pre Jonathan from Region 2 and David mark from Region 3 . I do not know who is from Region 1 but I think in order would be Bayero Usman Nafada deputy speaker of the house.

So it would go this way
President Yar Adua
and three vice president Jonathan, david mark and Bayero Nafada with 6 years ONE term each for president and governor of the state.

bY hAHAHA,
If there is going to be any split in Nigeria(which i seriously doubt) i hope it splits horizontally down the middle , separating the north from the south(east, west and south south inclusive) so that all the power mongers all up in the north can have a field day, fighting to rule each other.

Best response yet. It's only a blind man that will not see that there is a big difference betweeen Northern Nigerians and southern Nigerians. I personally think that Northern Nigeria will do better if they merge with Niger and Chad because they are technically the same type of people. Southern Nigerians are more akin to majority of the Ghananians and Camerounians,

Wow, I really like this post.

By far this is the best I have read.

I agree with your first point of Healing. I keep wondering why auditing firms sch as KPMG, PWC, Deloitteand Touche are not auditing the government. They need to assist EFCC.
Honestly when you bring in a third party (not tied to politics) that doesn't have an interest in the entity they perform better audits.

No one who has a stake in the government should be allowed to be on the auditing team. There should be seperate auditing team for basically each section and they shouldn't interact with each other.

The government should not be auditing itself.

Re: Nigeria Will Split Soon! by Eziachi: 12:20am On Apr 30, 2008
If splitting Nigeria is an abormination as many are making it out to be:
What were we before 1914?
Why did we allow English Cameroonians to go?
Why can't we bring along republic of Benin as well to make us even bigger?

I can take it when the ruling elite called owners of Nigeria are defending one Nigeria by all means because of the obvious reasons that it's their only source of livelihood, but when ordinary suffering Nigerian can't see the fact that Nigeria is a country but will never be a nation I just wonder. You cannot make progress without being a nation. Nigeria from birth was a fraud designed to fail and unworkable and we all knew it but pretending not to notice. Some are looking up to their god for a miracle that will never happen. We are deceiving ourselves about one united Nigeria when leadership is still zoned, every ward is strictly governed by sons of the soil. Some said Nigerian diversity is their strength, what a load of rubbish!! When the diversity is the core root of all our problem from ethnic/religious riots all the time, engulfing thousands of people.

Whenever this particular issue arises, they will start with their usual blackmail of war as if spliting a country has to be war tied together or as if other countries hasn't done it before. But they forget the fact that wars had occured only where some people are determined to keep thing the same by force and forcing the hand of change down, then until it explodes like in the cases of Yugoslavia or Ethiopia/Eritrea. And in the end the split did happened, but had they have followed the part others like Pakistan/Sri Lanka or the former Soviet Union followed, there would not had been any bloodshed at all.

A house divided against itself will never flourish, we dislike each other but only pretend it's not there. We voted along ethnic lines 47 years after the British and still think all is well. When a marriage is not working some will even try a trial separation or outright divorce but in Nigerian case we tent to turn a blind eyes. See no evil, hear no evil until it's too late one day.
If all the one Nigeria zealot can explain to me why a Nigeria is called a non indigine in his own country and it's legal? Why in many states some kids pays school fees while rest don't because they are regarded asnon indigines?
What is the different between that scenario to someone living in Cameroon or Gabon as a foreigner?
If Nigeria we had today was on the table for independence's London conference, how many would have signed it?
Why was the north dead against independence with the South in 1958?

I don't like pretending, I am a realist, being patrotic doesn't mean being stupid, blind and deaf to reality steering us in the face. I will rather live in Abeokuta or Funtua with my passport/visa as an immigrant with some rights than as a so called citizen without any right, venerable at all time, insecure and looking over my shoulder at all times. If anyone can tell me that a Nigerian living in Ghana is less secure than a Nigeria living inside Nigeria but outside his tribe, then bravo to one Nigeria.
Re: Nigeria Will Split Soon! by Nobody: 6:09am On Apr 30, 2008
i am tired of Nigeria, u have no idea, it hurts so much to see a country with so much potential waning in poverty, corruption and self destruction. I have made this suggestion before and i will reiterate it, due to constant pattern of corruption in our government, i say its only the people that can take back Nigeria. Suggestion is to kill off the current generation of politicians, i mean all of them or at leas imprison them for life. After that, comes the big step, appoint people into office for the sake of out nation, people who have the moral standards and ideas , principled men and women both who are abroad and are at home. we have a plethora of such people, i know for a fact. My dear Nigeria, when will freakin Nigerians stop been the happiest people in the world for NO FUCKIN REASON and start holding government accountable. No Food, No money , No good roads or basic infrastructures, these are common basic things that is owed to the Nigerian public by the government, yet we are content with seating and basking , enjoying been happy in such despicable living conditions. I can go on and on, but to SUM it up IN ONE word what Nigeria needs is a REVOLUTION. The question is are u ready to take back Nigeria for the Nigerian people?? o ti sun mi ojare. my heart bleeds for my beloved country.
Re: Nigeria Will Split Soon! by nport(m): 7:31am On Apr 30, 2008
I think that there is hope for Nigeria. What we need is to see ourselves as a Nation. It sound impossible, but I think Nigerians abroad are not as cynical as the ones living in the country. And I believe that Nigerians have good reason to be cynical, but it will not make our situation any better. Yes Nigeria is in a horrible state, but what we need is for people to stop venting and take action. If you think politicians are corrupt, then why not run for politics? If you think we need infrastructure, why not start a business and make lots of money and contribute to the community.

If you, an honest person, and are afraid to run for politics, then who will? The greedy and corrupt? Yes, they are already in office and will keep running for it so long as you're afraid.

Whether you're a northerner or southerner, the only people in the world who will ever care about Nigerians are Nigerians. America doesn't care for Nigeria outside what can benefit America and the same goes with every other country. Do you want to know Nigeria's only hope? Each other! All we have is each other. Lets not loose that too.

Splitting Nigeria will be the biggest disaster of the 21st century. We have to stay together.

I just read this article: http://www.nigeriaport.com/feature/2008/apr/africans-and-self-preservation

It details a little bit about nigerians being afraid of things (like politics for example)
Re: Nigeria Will Split Soon! by Eziachi: 1:54pm On Apr 30, 2008
Splitting Nigeria will be the biggest disaster of the 21st century. We have to stay together.

What a load of rubbish!!!!! Just tell me the disaster it will bring other than progress, positive competitions, the discard of collective failures. Even if you kill every single Nigeria, as long as Nigeria is still as big, cumbersome and unworkable as it is, it will never work. We can have a measure of co operation as individual nations in term of trade, immigration and foreign policy just like the Europeans.

Do you think it will be workable for Germany, France, Britain, Italy to have a sort of success making them one single country? In an election won't it turn into war among them? This is the situation we had found with Nigeria, where many nations had been force to live as an enthity and why people can't see this is beyond me. The little progress Nigeria had ever recorded was during the regional governments, when they all had a measure of indepedent of each other. Where they can do their own thing for their own people without looking for help from Lagos as it was then.

Then most of the powers were in the regions, the regions send money to Lagos, unlike now where Abuja was like a father christmas and decide who gets what and who doesn't. It was during the regions that first class universities like Ibadan, Ife, Nsukka and Ahmadu Bello were buit, all because of positive competititon. The autonomous region brought about WNBC (now NTA Ibadan) the first in Africa and that triggered the formation of ENBC (now NTA Enugu) four years later and later the northerner had what is now NTA Kaduna.
It's like a classroom of 120 pupils, there is no way a teacher, no matter how hardworking, dedicated and bright that he can or able to take care of the needs of all his pupils, let alone knowing their individual names for a start. But broke the class down to about four for instance, with 30 pupils in each class, a teacher will now be able to know the pupils intimately, know their backgrounds, understand their strong points and weaknesses and answer their questions, and this is just common sense.

Look at Abuja for instance, everyone is hail bent in being in Abuja because every power, money is concentrated there but if we are to have Arewa, Oduduwa, Biafra and Niger Delta today, towns like Ibadan, Ife, Abeokuta, Enugu, Onitsha, Aba, Kaduna, Kano, Calabar, Warri or Port Harcourt will come to life again.
Won't it be interesting to know among this nations the first that will acquire 24 hrs power supply? That is the type of competition or race that spliting Nigeria will bring among it's nation and it will in an instance reduce the cost of running governments.
Instead of having a president.vice, plus 36 governors/36 deputies and endless non productive local govt that were strictly designed to siphone money, we will have only just 4 president or whatever each nation chose to call their leader. Do you know how much these 36 governors and their deputies cost Nigeria in a single year? and despite that non of them can generate a single kobo of it own, they only act like bursars at the end of every months, go to Abuja and collect their shares and share it among themselves and then wait for another month to come.

You can bring as many revolution as you like but Nigeria won't work. In fact Revolution will never work in Nigeria because ethnicity will always come to destroy it. June 12 presented an opportunity for a revolution but most northerners turned a blind eye and told us that that injustice of annulment was an act of Allah and that it's has been Yorubanised and then I was asking them to deYorubanise it if that is the case. And the situation today is far worse than it was on June 12 1993.
