Question #1.

Do you consider the Somali fighting spirit similar to the fighting spirit of the legendary Vietnamese people? I mean both Somalis and Vietnamese people fought against lots of powerful people.

I really dont know much about vietnamese people, But Somalis fight simply cause we are devoutly religious. We believe we will go to heaven after death. Somali society is divided between warriors and religous leaders. Religious leaders dont fight, warriors are expected to fight during times of war. In somali society even women served in the military.

Somalis have been fighting aggressors for thousands of years. The fact that we are alive today says alot. We exist today and are all over ethiopia, northern kenya and djibouti, even thou at one time we were one of many ethnics groups in the ethiopian empire.


We also have pride in the fact that we are somali. Somalis despite being muslim speak their own language and despite being in between the arab world and christians in africa, we have kept our culture and way of life while still practicing the islamic religion.

Even the Arabs did not mess with somalis who were warriors. Somalis enslaved Ethiopians, bantus. When west africa was being colonized and taken as slaves, Somalis were using Cannons(the first to use cannons in africa) against the ethiopians. Somalis and Turks were helping the arabs fight against the Portugese in East Africa. Somalis and arab had a monopoly on spices because we are in between asia and europe.


Back to the spirit of fighting, its bascially in our nature. We are taught that its better to die once than to live in shame.

First bolded: Can you back that up with facts please? Any link to buttress it?

Second bolded: Anybody/any group/ any ethnicity can lay claims to that. War/skirmishes/fights is as old as human history so no group can out-rightly lay monopolistic or say it is inherent.

somalia9: Somalis definately support independence for the Oromo people. The Oromo people are closely related to Somalis and many Oromo women have married Somali women in the past during times of war they were enslaved, but they were freed when they gave birth.

Oromo people make up 35 percent of the ethiopian people. Like the Somali people Oromo are the other people in Ethiopia who are Muslim. Approximately Half of Oromos are Muslim. Oromo's call themselves and Oromo and not ethiopian many times. I remember at My college during African Night every country had its flag up and did a traditional dance.


Then came an Oromo girl with an oromo flag and she danced. All the Somalis were dancing with her on the stage and the rest were cheering, I included. Giving the Oromo's independence would help Somalis too because Ethiopia's population would decrease as Somalis and Oromo make up half the population in Ethiopia.

Of all the people in Africa Somalis love the Oromo people the most since they share our religion and border our region. Many Somalis who marry an Ethiopian mostly marry Oromo's.

During the war between Ethiopia and Somalia in 1977 Many Muslims Oromo's included sided with the Somalis. Without the Oromo's Somalis would have a hard time defending themselves against ethiopia's 90 million population. But because half those people are muslim they side with SOMALIA. This allegience along with the Somali people being muslim and being part of the Arab League have always given us an edge. Egypt hates ethiopia as the nile river flows from ethiopia, Thus the reason Egypt always supports Somalia. It is important to note that it was Egypt that sponsored Somalia to join the Arab Leage. Somalia was the first non arab country to join the Arab League.


So in short Somalis support Ethiopia fragmenting apart. This means Oromo getting their independence. Somalis are already happy the fact that Eritrea is independent. Thus leaving Ethiopia with out access to the sea.
