Okay. This is a background of sleep walking as presented by wikipedia. http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sleepwalking Sleepwalking, also known as somnambulism or noctambulism, is a sleep disorder belonging to the parasomnia family.[2] Sleepwalkers arise from the slow wave sleep stage in a state of low consciousness and perform activities that are usually performed during a state of full consciousness. These activities can be as benign as sitting up in bed, walking to the bathroom, and cleaning, or as hazardous as cooking, driving,[3] violent gestures, grabbing at hallucinated objects,[4] or even homicide.[5][6][7] Although generally sleepwalking cases consist of simple, repeated behaviours, there are occasionally reports of people performing complex behaviours while asleep, although their legitimacy is often disputed.[8] In 2004, sleep medicine experts in Australia claimed to have successfully treated a woman who claimed to have sex with strangers in her sleep. [8] In December 2008, reports were published of a woman who sent semi-coherent emails while sleepwalking, including one inviting a friend around for dinner and drinks.[9] Sleepwalkers often have little or no memory of the incident, as their consciousness has altered into a state in which it is harder to recall memories. Although their eyes are open, their expression is dim and glazed over.[10] Sleepwalking may last as little as 30 seconds or as long as 30 minutes.[4] Nomenclature, classification, and codification This section requires expansion. (May 2010) According to a study by Dr. Christina A. Gurnett, of the Washington University School of Medicine's Department of Neurology, sleepwalking may be inherited as an autosomal dominant disorder with reduced penetrance. Genome-wide multipoint parametric linkage analysis for sleepwalking revealed a maximum logarithm of the odds score of 3.44 at chromosome 20q12-q13.12 between 55.6 and 61.4 cM.[11] ↑Jump back a section Explanation Sleep stages Sleep is categorized into stages of a cycle between REM sleep and NREM sleep. NREM sleep is further divided into four stages: stage 1 (a light sleep period), stage 2 (a consolidated sleep period), and stage 3 and 4 (slow wave sleep periods). This is followed by stage 3, stage 2, stage 1, and a REM period. In normal adults, a cycle will last about 1.5 hours. [12] According to Lavie, Malhotra, and Pillar, "The length and content of sleep cycles change throughout the night as well as with age." Sleepwalking generally occurs during the first third of the night (between 11 p.m. and 1 a.m.)[10] during the slow wave NREM sleep stage. High delta activity within the brain usually accompanies slow wave NREM sleep, and when 20–50% of all activity is delta activity, stage 3 is scored. When delta activity reaches 50% or higher, stage 4 is scored.[12] Usually, if sleepwalking occurs at all, it will only occur once in a night.[4] Automatism Researchers sometimes disagree about the classification of sleepwalking as an automatism. These repetitive actions may include chewing, lip-smacking, pulling at clothing, or wandering around looking confused. Epileptic automatisms are also associated "with the absence attacks of petit mal epilepsy."[13] Some actions that take place during sleepwalking could be classified as "automatisms". The distinction between "non-insane automatism" and "insane automatism" may be important in the legal context (see Crime below). Causes Several experts theorize that the development of sleepwalking in childhood is due to a delay in maturation. There are also high-voltage delta waves in somnambulists up to 17 years of age. This presence might suggest an immaturity in the central nervous system, also a possible cause of sleepwalking.[4] Sleepwalking is clustered in families, and the percentage of childhood sleepwalking increases to 45% if one parent was affected, and 60% if both parents were affected. However, there is no recorded preference to male or female individuals.[10] Thus, heritable factors appear to predispose an individual to develop sleepwalking, but expression of the trait may be also influenced by environmental factors. [14] Other precipitating factors to sleepwalking are those factors which increase the slow wave sleep stage.[15] These most commonly include sleep deprivation, fever, and excessive tiredness. |

One small contribution to the excellent comment made by muskeeto on the cause of Mystery Mark is insect bites. Most people don't wake up when stung or bitten by insects, they just reflexively scratch the irritated area with their nails until it bleeds. 4 Likes |

NUTRIENTS DONT CIRCULATE SO MUCH AROUND THE BODY. YOUR BODY HAS SLOWED DOWN CONSIDERABLY. NOW IF YOU HAVE A NIGHTMARE AND YOU PANIC AND WANT TO MOVE QUICKLY, THIS QUICK REACTION TO A NUTRIENT COMPROMISED BODY FURTHER CAUSES A CRASH IN YOUR DEFICIENCY THEREBY PULLING YOU IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION OF WHAT YOU ARE TRYING TO DO. THIS IS THE SENSATION OF BEING PUSHED DOWN WHEN YOU WANT TO GET UP. I have experienced sleep paralysis a lot. The one that stood out happened in '99 during my ND in Mafara Zamfara State. It was the period of excessive heat and we (the boys) were all sleeping outside. The name of the block is Aso Rock. I woke up in the night unable to move any part of my body. I was aware of a presence of something but did not know what. Still in my motionless state few seconds later I saw it. White, tall, I mean so tall it will touch the cloud. I screamed, no sound came out. I called out to the next person lying next to me, still nothing. I started struggling with head still no help. I resorted to inaudible prayer then pulled myself up with great strenght. The next morning I told some guys and those who knew things started tales of witchcraft in the town. Like I said, I have had several episodes. 2 Likes |

Muskeeto, can we go on? Yes we can. To maintain consistency, I will thread with you the same path. A neighbour, yesterday, told me the story of a certain cat in one of the compound they had shelter. It doesn't matter who you are, so long you inhabit in this compound, you must in your dream experience a duel with the cat and the morning will always bring witness to the affliction that happened in the night. If we are to go by the doctrine of somnabulism as you've suggested, it will also suggest two inferences. One is that the inhabitants of this compound in their entirety sleepwalks at night, which cannot be true and not true. Secondly, they get afflicted from sleepwalking(sleepwalking has to be culpable prior, to begin with). In the article above, listed as a cause to somnambulism does not span a repetitive pattern in relation to a specific impulse. What I seek to understand know, what seem beyond the scope of the article, what you have to explain is why the cycle of somnabulism will have to take turns striking the dwellers of my neighbour's compound? Why a thing as uncommunicable as somnambulism can occur in a boundary of unrelated people with unmatched strains of DNA and thought process? Let's deal with these for now. |

I experience it on a fairly frequent basis, I even experienced one last night and I woke up this morning with pain around my c-spine area. I probably had the one of yesterday as a result of an unusual sleeping position. It doesn't bother me anyway, I'm not one to believe in witches and fairytales. |

@OP, can you or anyone else explain to me what kind of "sleep paralysis or sleepwalk" that led to me having the back of head shaved to the size of a human thumb after being attacked by dogs in my dream? Note that I did note sustain any injury to my skin/scalp, just the hair. Could it have been: Animal/insect attack? i) mosquitoes wouldn't bite off a thumb-sized chunk of my hair without piercing my scalp. (wrong answer) ii) rats wouldn't bite off a thumb-sized chunk of my hair without eating off parts of my scalp (wrong answer but debatable) iii) cockroaches wouldn't bite off a chunk of my hair thereby PERFECTLY carving out a thumb-sized mark (wrong answer but debatable) Sleepwalking/self inflicted i) the thought of it would sound ludicrous... Skin condition or disease? i) please explain? As I never used any funny hair cream or had hair-do... The funny part of it was that after having my routine haircut for about three (3) times on forth-nightly basis, that part of hair refused to grow like other normal parts (it experienced stunted growth for a while and only started growing when prayers was involved - as an open-minded person, i'm still very curious). I was about 17 when it happened and my hair had grown up to clipper leveler number 2 or 1.5... Now if anyone can explain to me how I chopped off a chunk of my own hair or it got ripped off by insects/rodents whilst asleep, it'll be a relief as I still ponder of it being an attack (spiritually). PS - Sleep paralysis, sleep-walking and self-inflicted injuries do happen, but from my experience and stories from people who've witnessed such incidents, I think cases of spiritual attacks also do exist. |

An0nimus:I am talking from personal experience. I once lived with a guy who was tormenting me every night with this kind of paralysis. every morning I will become so weak. it reached to a time I began suspecting him and I confronted him and he broke down crying and confessed that he was initiated into witchcraft by her mother in the village. It was at that point I left the house and relocated. The guy is now dead. Don't know if he was delivered from the evil deed . |

For lack of words, medical science calls it sleep paralysis, and for ignorance, many people term it 'wizard attack'. Truth is; It is a state, in which the physical body goes out of alignment with the ethereal body. When both bodies are out of energy frequency, then the physical body is unconscious, cos consciousness lies with the ethereal body, which is the living component of multiple personality called human being. It is beyond natural and supernatural, it is esoteric. |
