Actually NBS in their twitter website and Facebook pages say they never said anything like that. What the representative of the statistician general said is the Mdg target for poverty is for all countries to halve poverty by 2015 and since it was 54 percent during that time the target was made for Nigeria the target should be 27 percent and not that they forecast it will be 27percent. Another display of incompetence from Nigerian reporters. You all just wasted your time debating a fake report from Nigerian newspapers. Visit their website at www.nigeriastat(that's all) it's probably the best website in government today and one of the best statistics sites in the world. Very very rich for a government agency.

I don't agree with this statistics and would have loved them to provide more detailed info on how much we have gone in achieving the MDGs and not to divide their estimated poverty level by two!

In achieving universal basic education which is a basic component in MDG, I think the government has made improvement but has had major setbacks due to the recent terrorist attack! Schools were burnt and child headed homes increase, normally there must be drop in enrolment and due to the destruction of properties, no access to education in some Northern states. I don't think the report took this into consideration.

The same is applicable to health care. The government tried in some states to provide healthcare facilities but such is not available in states like Abia. Constructing good looking health care centres and mapping it like they intend to do without having drugs and doctors at the clinic like the case of Rivers State does not amount to achieving the health aspect of the MDG!

Do we need to talk about maternal and infant mortality.
In infant mortality I will score us 88percent because the government really tried but due to the perception and myth the North still have about the vaccine, we can't go higher than 88.
Maternal mortality is still poor, our women are still dying during child birth in the hands of traditional birth attendants!

How many jobs have the government created to talk about poverty rate reducing in 2years time? Na magic?

Re: Only 27.2% Nigerians Will Be Poor By 2015 — NBS by adim2(m): 10:46am On Apr 06, 2013
First of all, i wonder where they got their statistics from. Apart from polo vaccines they give around our health care sector is still low. Drugs are not being subsidised and yet price of goods are escalating. Even if u start sharing the wealth of nigeria now, the poor will still out number the rich. So they should stop bringing up this fake statistics and spare us the intellectual nonsense. Even in america and other europe state, the yardstick or their masses still outnumbered that of the elite. A little knowledge on the elite will help. Just google the elite theory and u will know that this statistics is completely fake.

Re: Only 27.2% Nigerians Will Be Poor By 2015 — NBS by kaboninc(m): 2:00pm On Apr 06, 2013
gboss4sure: Before you shout is a lie. Ask yourself how poor were you five years ago and how has your pocket improved over the past few years. Nigeria is a place that if you are hard working you will never get broke unless you are waiting for the Government to feed you or employ you then you wait for ages. There are lots of services that people are willing to pay for and if you got an idea you will become rich over the years. For example there was this guy i knew in ariaria market who has nothing doing along the line he was able to buy a generator and he started using the generator to provide electricity to few shop owners in the market and each pays him 100 per day, the last time i went to ariaria and met this guy he now owns a BIG Lister Engine and he provides over 500 people with electricity and is not even for a full day. if you check 100 naira into 500 it gives you 50k per day. Mehn guys are making money just use your brain and stop waiting for the Government.

The reason you hardly see easterners complain about bad government is that they can make money from any little thing and hardly you will see anyone relying on the government for anything. If there are people that are supposed to complain about BAD Governance it should be the igbos especially the people in ABIA State because if you go to that state you will wonder if there is any government presence there yet they do carry on with their lives making their money no one depends on the Government for anything. Some streets will contribute money and repair their roads, life moves on, to them the Government can go to hell. They will only have problems with you only when you interfere into there business. What am i trying to say. Everyone should stop waiting for the government cause if you keep waiting for them (government) you will grow white beards.

Now this is a true Nigerian! Even with the face of challenges, they are not deterred so long as their focus is in sight.

Nigerians alone, well, conceivably but Nigeria has no borders so very doubtful even with the best practice. The more sophisticated Nigeria gets and revealed to be so on Youtube for the entire world to see, the more people will slip into Nigeria. Might have been more accurate to state that Only 67.2% Nigerians,Togolese, Cameroonians, Nigeriens, Chadians, Benois, Congolese etc living in the nation called Nigeria Will Be Poor By 2015 — NBS

Re: Only 27.2% Nigerians Will Be Poor By 2015 — NBS by Yandl: 4:35pm On Apr 07, 2013
The attention of the National Bureau of Statistics has been drawn to an article appearing in some newspapers claiming to quote the Statistician General of the Federation as having stated that, "Only 27.2% of Nigerians will be poor by 2015", during a workshop, where he was represented by a staff. The NBS wishes to categorically state that this assertion is completely false as no such statement was made by any staff or representative of the NBS.

The statement made by the representative of the NBS alluded to the UN MDGs target that requires countries to halve poverty by 2015. Based on the baseline poverty rate of 2004, which was 54.4%, Nigeria would need to be at a poverty level of 27.2% in order to achieve the said UN MDGs target. This is clearly not an estimate or forecast but merely an expectation of the UN MDGs. Any further reports suggesting otherwise should be disregarded.
