Coming up with a rough prediction of how threads on criminal acts are treated is very easy, depending on ethnicity and the leanings of the Nairaland members who read them.

1. Crimes involving Igbos: Generate the highest traffic as evidenced by the frequency at which they hit the front page. About 5%-70% of the posts will be acerbic comments that serves to highlight the supposed evil that is the Igbo race. The trolling/high-strung posts are internet goldmines that pocket more money for site admins and more entertainment or dismay for NL members, depending on their
orientation.

2. Crimes involving Yorubas: Generate the second largest traffic. Depending on the enormity of the crime, hitting front page status means automatic readership from relatively large numbers of NL members. Acerbic comments follow but are slighty tamer than one would expect (this can be affected by how shocking the crime is though). Threads not hitting the front page are lost in obscurity.

3. Crimes commited by Hausa/Fulani: Hardly reach the front page and are hardly commented on even if they do UNLESS their victims are Igbo or Yoruba. If such an exception is established the comments mostly shift the responsibility of the criminal acts on the victim, where their courage in fighting off their attackers (or lack thereof) is called into question. A couple of ethnic slurs are thrown at the Northern groups (i.e. "aboki"wink, but the criminals are little more than backdrops of an overall chess game.

3. Minority groups: Largely ignored unless the crimes are overly sensational. When they hit the front page if such exceptions occur the comments are mostly tame and more reasonable and general. Ethnic slurs may be
in order though especially if the criminals are
from minority groups highly affiliated with the three major ethnic groups (a la, the Nairaland tribal chessgame).

Nairaland moderators are aware of these trends and have applied this to their front page strategy with precision.
