It's a tricky situation but not without hope.
Good that you are already seeking information, knowledge, they say, is power.

There are many things we don't know about your situation there.
Are you a student, do you stay there legally or otherwise, can you travel to other countries, are you male, female, have children etc?


If you are just a single person, is there anybody (brother/sister/aunt/uncle/good friend) you trust back home who can do some leg work? Like finding out from local government hospital/NGO what help you can get back home.

It is best for you to carefully plan your return home. God forbid your health deteriorates unexpectedly, you wanna be with loved ones. Money is not everything. HIV progression is a bit unpredictable. Try to be aware of your CD4 count and be watchful about frequent infections like respiratory infections.

YOUR priority now is staying healthy. That means eating and living heathily. A cure may well be found years down the line. The heathier you are for as long as possible the better.

Now, here in UK, we make HIV diagnosis sometimes during prenancy booking and just randomly sometmes and the protocol is pretty clear. Not a biggie anymore if protocol is followed.

Why the hell are people asking how the HIV was contacted?

How in the world will that help the victim? If you don't want to contact the disease, get tested to make sure you don't already have it and then stop sleeping around if that's what you do (And if you can't control yourself, then always use protection. It's not 100% safe but it will drastically reduce your chances of contacting HIV and other STDs, etc.)

Now back to the victim: Regardless of how you contacted the disease, unfortunately your best option is to return to Nigeria. Our country has been labeled as one of the countries with a high case of HIV so a lot of drugs are being circulated (some for free) to help manage the epidemic. You should be able to get your hands on some.

Ideally the govt would want no illegal to get free treatment at all, but from practice you know that's not possible.

I just want to add that the point at which RT begins is important, too early and you risk causing resistance and too early exposure to side effects of the therapy. And too late, the immune system might be too weakened to recover.

As for eradicating the virus throgh therapy, the jury is still out. The virus might be sequestered in some organs or blood (even if not replicating), so that's why you cannot donate organs even if "functionally cured".[i][/i]

If you say you did your dissertation on the subject, then il have to agree with you.

But it seems kind of weird the NHS would deny an illegal HIV treatment because it does defeat their aim of HIV eradication or containment as they cant guarantee the patient wont spread the disease.

Besides I think that's a flagrant violation of human rights and I'm sure if the patients takes the case to the European courts, he/she would win.
