Seriously I need someone presently in ibadan to disprove what I'm saying, just tell me if you're in IB and the area that you can find filth like the ones posted in this thread!

If you can't, that means you just don't want to drop the ignorant tag of Ibadan is dirty that we've being told since we were babies.

Most of those pictures are more than 8years. There definitely are still some dirty places in Ibadan but many of the scenes posted here have been fixed.

OK. Lets now leave texas.cowgirl and discuss on the tranformation of Nigeria as evidenced by the pictures. Some posters have been posting images of reconstructed places. How do we attain the changes needed. Do you think triblalism blithes our focus and the politicians take advantage of that?

I don't think people who are angry with the op are doing so for exposing the dirt in their "villages" (if I may borrow that expression from her) I believe the anger stems from the fact that her topic has a subtle ethnic bashing tint to it that portrays the SE as a dirty/backward people. I came across somewhere on this thread that the op is from Ekiti state, why didn't she start the photo postings from there or better still the place of initial abode (Lagos ? Before she travelled out) you don't leave your farm and clear weed from your neighbor's own.

Hold your elected officials accountable.

Yeah... Ignorance, you say. It is perfectly okay to toss your empty plastic bag, or a bottle, just about anywhere. It is perfectly ok to empty the dumpster on the road in front of your shop on Douglass Road, Owerri, but GOD FORBID that someone reminds you of what you did or expose your filth to the world, that person is then evil, and you are innocent. If people don't post photos of filth and non-existent roads, then it is as good as if everybody keeps the environment clean and everybody drives on a proper roads...

Look, it doesn't affect me so much, thank God for that, but you people better start doing something, start with yourself, don't expect the elected government to do it for you, because that is not going to happen any time soon.

Oh, by the way, just because some parts of the USA, like Harlem, Bronx and such, have abandoned yards full of garbage, does that mean Nigerian streets should be the same? Why is it so difficult to at least drop your garbage where you suppose to, instead dropping it wherever you find it convenient and expecting someone else to remove it?!

Ofcourse I know most of the pics have being on the internet for ages and things have changed in many places, but one guy said ibadan is the biggest slum in the world and a lot of guys probably believe him, but the surprising thing is that the reality on ground is far different from what people believe, there was a time when there was no law and order in lagos and Ibadan, but things have changed very much, people need to stop saying Ibadan is dirtier than evey other place cos it isn't! Infact I believe its one of the cleanest metropolice in the country, people will not want to hear it but I dare anyone to go to ibadan and disprove what am saying.

Nigeria has not defined society ,no government for sure and no policies.

An average nigerian adult does not understand the concept of why a street should be kept clean and that explains why the people that are designated to keep the streets functional steals the resources that are supposedly budgeted for such projects.

I come from a descent country side in naija and every time mosquito hit me i lagos with malaria,i use to run home to recuperate from filth and polluted environment because my home was clean with no expose dumps, sewage and mosquitos.

I was born clean and i will remain clean, because cleanliness is godliness.I am godlike.

Okay, but that statement is valid. Are there more modern cities yes! But cleaner cities, the answer is no!

Calabar for all its cleaniness prestige still have dirty sewages and dirty inner city.

That statement as you can see is relative not absolute, each city in this country have the clean and the not so clean (as most govt have woken up to sanitation) areas, so its ignorance for anyone to think ibadan is dirt where infact it is one of the cleanest by the percentage of how many places are clean. Akson man: Most of the filthy pictures posted here represents the state of mind of most Nigerian losers (home and abroad). These set of Nigerians rush to nairaland daily scouting for bad news about Nigeria so as to justify their mediocre existence.

They are like a large percentage of African Americans-when the rest of the world see America as a land of opportunities, the only thing some of these slave descendants see is white oppression, drugs, drive by shooting, and prison.

@Texas.cowgirl, i dont know why a transsexual gogo dancer like u should be putting this amount of energy in making Naija look bad.

Nigeria is evolving and will only get better for those who believe in her.
Can u prosper in a land that u dont believe in?

Very dumb and dim-witted post... What has African Americans and their struggle got to do with the filth in Nigeria? Only a numbnut with an IQ in the 3rd decimal would compare the struggle of docile and utterly corrupt people who are eager to sell their souls for crumbs - to people who're fighting against generational discrimination and institutionalised racism... At least African Americans still complain about something... Are Nigerians as brave as that? Everyone in that filth only cares about someone from their tribes/ethnic-group being in a position of power regardless of how inept, utterly corrupt, and less qualified the person is...

And no, Nigeria will only get better when you retrieve your brain cells from under your foot - and start thinking like a normal humanoid should... Keep hoping and believing like all the gazillion of sheeple who troop to churches and mosques in that country, looking for propserity!

Nigerians just need to be proactive; do away with tribal sentiments; and let their voice(s) be heard...

You can't rule out that every city in the world has undesirable places characterized with dirt and filth. Technically, what you are saying is that she has no right to expose the inadequacies of another state as she does not hail from that state.

Only those from from a particular state can criticize their respective states. Even when the so-called states are in the same Country.

Sure!

Sugbon, prejudice and misinformation form the bulk of our perception of places, for example most of us in the south believe we're better than the northerners, whereas infact they have cleaner cities than most southern states!

That calabar ish for instance, where people equate calabar to the whole of cross river which is just too wrong, and what worked for calabar was that the governor took steps very early to clean up mainly the municiplality long before other states woke up to the idea of using aggressively street sweepers.

In all sha, I'll say things are getting better in most places, na only this over population stuff dey worry me, we too plenty for this country.

Make no mistake, animals and people behaving like animals exist everywhere. Be it Africa, Europe or the rest of the planet. Just that... dare to drop an empty bottle in Germany, for instance, you would get a hefty fine and if you, god forbid, do it in Singapore, better shoot yourself. Few years ago, in my sweet European homeland, my Nigerian wife was shocked to see someone walking on the street and dumping an empty box of some biscuits on the walkway, just seconds after she walked some 30-40 meters to dump her bag in the garbage bin. So I had to explain that the animal couldn't know better and communal police was not nearby to give him a "ticket" worth some $100.

All in all, we should all behave like human beings, not like animals (but technically we are animals, lol). And for those that disobey the rules, there should be fines so heavy that they will never do the same thing again.

And before you mention tribalism again... I have lived in the Igbo land for long enough, and spent enough time in the Yoruba land, to say they are not so much different when it comes to keeping the environment clean. Abuja is like a different world, so that experience doesn't count and I haven't been to the north so I can't talk about that.

Just a honestly friendly advice for everyone who wants to hear it: Next time before you dump something to where it doesn't belong, think of how offended you were by the pictures posted here.

When you're dealing with politics and opinion polls there's no blanket statement - you go with the majority. From what I know, and I have seen - about 70-80% Nigerians do everything based on tribal/ethnic sentiments. We may start by looking at voting patterns; how people critique the government; and even this thread is a prime example of the thought process of most Nigerians. It's always "us" against "them" with almost everyone in Nigeria.

70-80% = 0.7/0.8 of 1... Do the approx. and see if you won't get 1...

So, it isn't a blanket statement - that's just the honest truth... I bet if you go to Bayelsa or any Ijaw state today - the approval ratings of GEJ would be more than 90% despite the fact that the guy has been an epic failure...
