Policemen Attack Maiduguri Hospital, Shoot Doctor, Beat-Up Medical Staff by iykepromotions: 7:11pm On May 09, 2013
The University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, UMTH, was shut-down early today, Thursday, when policemen, who brought corpses of their colleagues that were killed in Bama carnage to the hospital’s morgue went on rampage, shooting a medical Doctor, beating to coma some medical staff, and destroying a number medical laboratories in the hospital.

A staff of the hospital who did not want his name in print said the police who brought the corpses from Bama yesterday for deposit were told that the morgue was full of other corpses, but insisted that their own corpses must also be admitted.

He said "You know when there is no place to keep corpses sometimes they are kept on the floor pending when a space is created for refrigerating, but when they came this morning, the mobile policemen went on rampage and started shooting. They beat up a professor and other medical staff and also shot a medical doctor before some Military men in the hospital came to bring the situation under control.”

According to him, the hospital has been shutdown for now, as some doctors have threatened, not to attend to policemen who are being brought for treatment almost on a daily basis.

“The doctors are saying that, they deserve some respect from the uniform men because some of the security operatives, particularly the police have this disrespecting attitude towards them. Some of these doctors and professors they beat up would have been IGPs if they were policemen, but somebody who is far down the ladder would be treating them as nobody.” he explained.

Also a top security official, who did not want his name published said a professor at the UMTH called and told him what happened at the hospital, stressing that, the incident was unfortunate.

Attempt to confirm the incident failed as efforts to speak with the Police Commissioner, Yuguda Abdullahi who was at the Maiduguri Government House about one hour after the incident refused to talk to our correspondent. He quickly entered his car and shut the door, even as his orderly told reporters that he would not want to speak to the Press.

What do you expect from the citizenry?
A vicious circle it is whirling around.

Those soldiers are under severe pressure literally putting their lives on the line for those very doctors...

It is a severe insult for a hospital to reject the body of a soldier who died in active service.

I mean, for Fcks sake the soldier took a bullet protecting YOU...and una no fit house en deadi body?! angry

How demoralizing is that to dead man's colleagues?
Knowing that despite their low pay,and their status as walking Boko Haram targets, they will never get the respect they deserve...even in death? undecided

Don't get it twisted, Maiduguri is a Battle Ground where Nigeria is locked in a deadly war with Islamic Fundamentalist...

Every combatant in this battle is a SOLDIER regardless of their official designation....

Trust Nigerians to chase the mundane and pedestrian, while losing sight of the actual reality

Soldier boy, so NSTDC guys rolling around Borno are soldiers?
Please, go to Borno and wear camouflage because every personnel in Borno is a soldier.
Even at that, it does not empower them to shoot, kill or maim the hospital personell.
By they way, what is in a dead body? Dust! Carcass.
A living dog, is better than 2m dead jackbauers

Nigeria is such a hellhole that the best anyone can do right now, if he/she has the resource, is to take one's family out of it. Borrowing from Prof Soyinka - the stuff one sees in this nation makes one wonder if the current definition of humanity is accurate. Its beyond my understanding how someone, hurt or unhurt, can go into a hospital and beat up a care-giver. Even Alqeada in its brutality still finds a way to be civil to those who give care to their wounded comrades. I wish someone would help me get it because I dont.

Its like Nigerian police men are perpetually in anger-mode. I personally think over 80% of them are clinically insane. Why do I say so? Throughout my time in Nigeria there was one recurring decimal amongst most officers and that is - Any time a police man in Nigeria gets upset with you he does something harmful immediately without restraint, sometimes he goes as far as killing you and taking to his heels. I witnessed this many times. One time they chased one guy in Aba, unbeknownst to the guy, to his house and murdered him right in front of his house, for what you might ask - for fairy tales of how the guy disrepected them. But we knew the reason was simply because the guy was in a nice car looking good and wasn't paying them any attention so that automatically set off the beast in Nigerian police men.

Fellas, think about this - you work your butt off and get yourself something classy and the average Nigerian police is jealous of you at any checkpoint. If they command you and you behave like a polished person they immediately get mad - its like civility (when you look good) means disrespect to them. They want you to be scared and jittery as they command you, anything less might spell your death after which they zoom into the bush. Its difficult to feel sorry for Nigerian police after you've gone through hell with them. In the US, if an officer dies in the hands of any criminal organization like Boko haram or the likes, all hell will break loose. Citizens are outraged because they, to a large extent, respect their officers. Nigerian police has neither value nor respect in the eyes of the people and the reason is simple - Nigerian police is indiscribably inhuman. The army is 100x better than Nigerian police.

May the souls of those who lost their lives yesterday rest in peace and may God give their families strength to overcome such a trying period in their lives.

That being said, the police officers who let their emotions get the better of them, or should I say their arrogance, have done nothing but take the sting out of the deaths of their colleagues. Nigerians home and away were outraged over the evil actions taken against these men but now, many may just begin to think they are no better than terrorists. How are we supposed to join them in mourning their colleagues when they have shown themselves to be unrepentant terrorists? How can they treat with such disrespect the men who are tasked with the duty of saving their lives and treating their injured? Poor training at its height!

People like this obviously have mental problem and very much responsible for the demise of our great country Nigeria. If you liked this post also, you are equally sick and mentally deficient. DID YOU ALL READ THE ARTICLE AT ALL? Will do my best to paraphrase the message...The morgue did not refuse to accept the deceased. Simply, they told the policemen that the Morgue refrigeration housing is at its maximum capacity; meaning the deceased will be kept on standby pending availability of space.

Shut up.... pls
Both the police and doctors ought to protect lives...

The duty of a policeman is to protect lives but they failed by dealing mercilessly with armed-less and innocent medical staff.

The Doctors also failed woefully by not accepting the corpse of innocent men protecting them on the battle ground... as if that was not enough, they embarked on a strike action which of course may lead to death of another batch of patients in their custody...

So tell me, who failed in his duty here?
