EXCLUSIVE: 2015 storm gathers as PDP in home state accuse Tambuwal of betrayal, anti-party activities

LEGISREPORTS NG – The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Sokoto State has petitioned the national secretariat of the party accusing speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Aminu Tambuwal of betrayal and anti-party activities.

Stakeholders of the PDP in the home state of the speaker in a letter to the party’s national chairman, Mr. Bamanga Tukur, said they are dismayed by Tambuwal’s romance with opposition figures of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and left with no such but officially report him to the national office of the party.

LEGISREPORTS had recently exclusively reported that the PDP has set off a probe of the speaker’s growing links with key opposition party figures with increased surveillance and monitoring of his movements and activities. In an earlier exclusive too, this online newspaper had reported that the party, worried by the anti-Jonathan antics of the House of Representatives, placed some lawmakers including Tambuwal and his deputy, Hon. Emeka Ihedioha, under watch.

LEGISREPORTS can report that this gathering storm over Tambuwal’s future in the PDP has now been officially documented by the petition from the Sokoto state chapter of the party.

The stakeholders, under the aegis of PDP Progressives for Party Solidarity, said in the letter dated April 18th 2013 that Tambuwal should be summoned to explain his role in “anti-party activities, cross-carpeting, betrayal and constant baseless and unguarded criticism of the party leadership and its operations in which he is a major beneficiary.”

Signed by one Alhaji Tanko Suleiman, the petition which is a closely guarded secret of the PDP, detailed alleged clandestine meetings the speaker had with APC leaders in Lagos and how Tambuwal promised to shore up the fortunes of the mega opposition party.

The petitioners expressed surprise and worry that a major beneficiary of the party and the fourth in national hierarchy of protocol “could be a traitor and so determined to sabotage the PDP,” warning that they will not sit and watch idly while the speaker “destroy what took us a lot of toil, sweat and commitment to build.”

The chairman of the PDP Board of Trustees, Mr. Tony Anenih last Wednesday, led some members of the apex organ of the party to meet with Tambuwal and some principal officers of the House of Representatives in the speaker’s conference room.

The closed door meeting confirmed reports that the party is sufficiently worried by Tambuwal’s rising profile with the opposition mega party which some reports say, have promised to make him its standard bearer in the 2015 presidential election.

Tambuwal’s name has consistently been linked with the 2015 presidency contest since former military dictator, Gen. Ibrahim Babangida, called on him at a recent forum to seek the mandate of a higher office having performed creditably well as speaker in the last two years.

The speaker has however, kept a loud silence on his political future in 2015 even though he continues to maintain cold relationship with President Goodluck Jonathan who many believe will seek re-election in 2015.
