Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola, has said the state government will stop at nothing till kidnapping is reduced to the barest minimum in the state. He said this at the first session of the 32nd Synod of the Diocese of Lagos (Anglican Communion) in Lagos on Wednesday. He said, "As safe as Lagos State is, for the first time in a long time, people are afraid of the rapid increase in kidnapping. It is a new problem and I assure Lagosians that the government is on top of the situation and would deal squarely with it. "Do not be afraid, rather be vigilant and adaptive to these challenges." The governor said the government had come up with a new strategy to ensure that security in the state was strengthened. "There are a lot that we must give up and sign up to before the government can protect us. The Lagos State registration card would soon start to be issued, and Lagosians are expected to register. "This would enable government to have essential details of any citizen in the state so as to make it easier for a person to be tracked and security ensured," he said. Fashola urged Nigerians to embrace love and eschew condemnation and hatred. Diocesan Bishop of Lagos and Dean Emeritus, Church of Nigeria, Dr. Adebola Ademowo, described the words of the governor as "comforting and reassuring". He said the country needed more leaders like Fashola. Ademowo said he was impressed that government was focusing on development in power, housing, agriculture and transport sectors to ensure economic growth. The registration card is long overdue in nigeria. I hope they also do a database for fingerprints as well. Small by small we will get there. |
