A poem from the collection poems of "IYIOLA OLUWATOSIN D".

ODE TO MAAMI

Maami the orisa of my life,
That drove me to earth in a journey of nine month strife,
Discomfort herself for my journey.

Maami, my first cry in this land of bitter and honey,
Is to tell you thank you!
After my journey, the first thing you taught me was how to eat,
Which mean i must learn how to live within me?
Later, i learn how to crawl before you,
This means i will always live to give my honour to you.
Then, i learn to speak,
This means i will not be coward before anybody.

Orisa of my life,
You are the deity i can't reject or ignore in my life,
You warm me when i was at cold,
You become a proletariat before the bourgeois to overcome my odd.

Maami, i shall pay all my debt i owned you,
Because you are what i become today,
I have prayed and fasted to the creator,
To safe your soul for me.

When i look at my wall mirror is Baba i see,
But when i see you i know you are the gold of my life.

Maami, a million thank you is not enough for you,
You guide me in the thorns of life,
Tell me which way to follow.
Orisa mi, i can't forget you,
You are the only statue i built in my heart,
That will remain till my last breath.

Thanks for expressing my thoughts in your poem. This is a wonderful tribute to my late mom. I wish I had appreciated her this way before she took that journey of no return. Once again, thanks a lot.
