Illbliss (love him for punchlines and aattitudes)
Ruggedman (If Jay Z is reckoned on the list of greats then he has a chance by spawning a number of hits though too commercial for me)
Naeto C (his laid back style and calm lyrics keeps you listening)
Sauce Kid (the swagger, the vibe are all presence)
Mode nine (Though some say He like Nas he truely isnt I think he's more of the legend KRS1. Nas has gone platinum a number of times but he(Mode) hasnt but I must also say if lyricism is put in as a main criteria then He is the best Naija emcee of all times just like Nas is)

they are my best in my opinion

@ Hansibone n Kay29000
10ks for numbering ur top 5. the rest of them just listed rappers in any order. I think we do ve a ryt 2 know what ur pecking order is,
.
@ Young K: dude, u did well in ur analysis, particularly bout Naeto n wat u said bout Mode bein more of a KRS1,

@ all:
I'd say this again, for y'all who picked Mode cos of word of mouf (cos when u argue with rap fanatics in d classroom or any fora, all u heard was Mode's punchlines were da illest) n so u picked him so u'd not be seen as one who isn't in too deep into rap: Mode ain't nothin but shit! his style's wack, using old beats like we was in the 80's, where d Bleep is dat gon get him? lets see, no where near da streets, no where near shows, n nothing but low chips. Okay, he got punchlines, but is he da best? fcukin no way homes! There's lil dudes with sick flows givin him a run for that which he claims to be his crown- Lyricism. And Bleep it, but i think MCs wanna claim to be lyricists or "conscious rappers" cos their shit don't sell n gain radio rotation like MC's who r d best of all worlds (rap, lyrics, punchlines, singin, u name it- like ELdee da don). Suddenly he pops out n takes a swipe at niggas who rap in pidgin, n calls rappers who do party jams (like Ruggedy baba), sellouts.

So logically, Kanye West is a sellout cos he's singin now? or Weezy F Baby is a sellout cos he's doing a rock album?! or Joe Camel sold out when he did Encore? Mode Ni**a, stop hatin, just cos he studied all da classics dont mean he's da best, flavours r different, n flavours make da game interesting n spicy. Hell, i could name 10 naija rappers better dan him, (punchlines or not)

Enuf said, my top 5:

5. Ruggedman (he's a legend, but he seems on a nosedive)
4. Eldee da don (yeah, Bleep wat anybody thinks but dis guy's still one of d best, n now he's bringin up soldiers like Proto (gotta check Proto out),
3. Eedris (let's b honest, der was dis time we all was feelin dis dude. hate or love him, he's one of da pioneers)
2. Naeto C, sweet like Nutri C (he ma fav, coulda been no 1 save 4 da fact dat he's not takin dis rap shit 2 c-rious as he's gone back 4 his Masters,
1. The Most Incredible outta Naija. who else? M.I.

apparently, da new kids r taking over da block. But i gotta giv credits to a wole lotta rappers who r repping good, but couldnt be on d list cos dey drop one time hits, or flash in d pans every now n then, bt they're coming up though,

Ikechukwu (sleeping giant)
Blaise (i luv dis girl)
Proto (nice one in Eldee's One in a million song)
Illbliss (fine lyics)
Nigga Raw (credits to his style n flow)
Kel (sweet girl wit a touch of swag)
FreeStyle,
IGHO
SauceKid (no 1 swag kid)
Overdose (nice flows)
etc,

@walttt

I strongly suspect you're one of those people that read about mode9 for the first time in this forum. And did you know that OverDose has the exact same style as Modenine or Illbliss? They rap the same way. Anyway, just yesterday, I was listening to Talking to you ( a modenine track) on cool fm and i changed channel to rhythm and they were playing comedy money (another modenine track). Go figure.
