Hello VO, Just a quick question. Can I apply for a visa with my international passport in my maiden name and my bank statement in my husbands surname (and attach supporting documents such as marriage certificate, etc? ) Thank you. |

Dear Visa Officer thank you once again for your kindness, i got an invitation for Engineering conference in the USA for 4 days but am yet to pay for the registration fee (900 USD) because i want to confirm my visa before i make payment, do to the refund policy is not favourable to me incase i didn't get the visa and also i would like to spend more 5 days after the conference to visit some interesting places to extend my idea in having international travel experience (total of 9 days stay). secondly i had some refusal stamp in my passport from previous visa application in other embassies 2 years ago, although i have travelled to 3 different countries, and i will be applying from my country of residence in GCC. please what do you advice in my case? shall i state that am going only for the conference? shall i pay for the conference fee before my interview? thanks. |

I wish you better luck in your next interview. |

zeenatex: Good evening VO,thanks for the response to my last post,I want to find out from you pleas,if a parent filed for his son as an Unmarried son over 21,can the son go ahead to get married legally before being invited for interview which is not even in sight yet,or should the person just stay as unmarried till he gets the visa. It depends. If the parent is a Legal Permanent Resident, getting married will render the underlying petition invalid. But if the parent is a U.S. citizen, then the son can get married and his category will change from F1 to F3. The wait time is longer, but the son can include his spouse and children in the petition. What the son should NOT do is get the visa as an unmarried child, then get married, then travel to the U.S. If he gets a visa when he is unmarried, he can't use it if he gets married before he travels. It's very possible that he would not be allowed to enter the U.S. if he attempted this. |

lilbro: V.O I Just confirmed from him he has none of those. But a photocopy of his dads u.s drivers license. Will that help? Is this in relation to proving a father's physical presence in the U.S.? If so, a photocopy of a driver's license is probably not going to be enough, especially if it's the only piece of evidence. |

jamesoo1: Dear Visa Officer thank you once again for your kindness, If the conference fee is nonrefundable, I wouldn't pay it just yet. The interviewing officer ought to understand that and see it as a sign of good judgment. I'd say go ahead and tell the officer that you want to stay a few days. It makes sense, and honesty is always the best policy. Good luck to you! 1 Like |

VO is it advisable to reapply soon? Cos the conference is already paid for? |
Re: I Am A U.S. Consular Officer: Ask Me Your Visa Questions. by VisaOfficer: 12:04pm On Sep 27, 2013 |
Mrs F: Sorry, I didn't see your original inquiry. Right now the wait time for sibling petitions is running around 12 years. Your spouse and children would be included. |

jefferylanj: VO is it advisable to reapply soon? Cos the conference is already paid for? Unfortunately, if you've already been refused for that particular conference, your chances of being approved for it are slim. The officer would want to see that your situation has changed since your last interview, and it doesn't sound like enough time has passed for that to be the case. |

Dear V.O, I know this post was intended for immigrant visas but i need your sincere input on this. Accept my apologies please. I applied for a Visa last yr and was denied because a member of my family left Nigeria ages ago on a tourist visa and never returned. Please i want to know what my chances of getting a visa to give birth in the US are? Should i still try or should i not bother? Because when i asked the last VO who interviewed me to tell me specifically y i was refused, she confirmed my suspicions but then i asked her again that if that is the case, it means i may never get to go to the US and she replied saying it would be very difficult for me or any other member of my family. Please what is take on this? Any comments or suggestions would be very much appreciated. P.S; My status has changed since the last time i applied. i'm married now, i have a good job and landed properties and i've visited 3 countries since then. Thanks in anticipation. |

BnBarbie: Dear V.O, Well, it's hard to say. I can see from your post that you have strong ties to Nigeria. (Did your relative who left on a tourist visa also have strong ties?) If you can show that you can afford to give birth in the U.S., and that you intend to return home, you'll likely receive a visa. Your relative has made it increasingly difficult for you, though. It could go either way and will depend very much on your credibility in the interview. |

Re: I Am A U.S. Consular Officer: Ask Me Your Visa Questions. by BnBarbie(f): 3:52pm On Sep 27, 2013 |
Yes he had strong ties; 4 kids, his personal house. I really dint know much about the whole process prior to him getting the visa. I jus knew when he was travelling. i was 16 years old then. they didn't tell me much. i would gladly show evidence of being able to pay my bills (that is if the CO wants to see it) because i don't intend owing and neither would i want to jeopardize my children's chances or any member of my family's chances at that of going to the US. If people knew the implications (like i know now), they probably wouldn't do it. And i answered yes to the question about having a relative in the US in a bid to be honest and truthful. Anyway, would applying with my husband increase my chances or decrease it because i would love to have him witness the birth but considering my circumstances, would it be a good idea or not? i don't want to blow his chances too. I also intend to give birth in a different state from where my relative stays (which was where i said i would be staying the last tym my visa was denied). Is it a good idea or would the consular officer think me insincere because of my destination change this time around or is d state i go to totally irrelevant to the consular officer? |

Hello sir, I have been following this thread for a while and I must confess that you are really doing a great job and it feels so good to hear from the direct source rather than mere hearsay, God bless you immensely. Now to my concern. My Fiance wanted to come for a conference in US sponsored by the company he works for, he told me he filled "married" in the marital status section of the B1/B2 visa application(his reason was because we were gonna get married few weeks in Nigeria after he comes back from his conference though we weren't married at the time he was filling the application). I really frowned at this but he had already submitted the application before telling me. His intention weren't for us to get married when he comes to the USA because he actually do have a genuine conference to attend. I live in United states and I am strongly aware that he cannot get married to me on B1/B2 visa. He was denied anyway(like you said sir, reasons for denial could be due to so many factors). My main concern is that I am a LPR of the US and i'm counting years patiently to becoming a US citizen in order to file for my spouse(pls note that we didn't eventually get married few weeks as planned due to unforeseen circumstances though we planning of getting married in one year's time from now in Nigeria i.e I would come to Nigeria for our wedding). My question is that when it is time to file for him as my spouse(because by then we would have been married), would the past non-immigration visa application where he filled "married" even though we weren't married as at the time of application jeopardize my filing for him? please I will be so glad to hear your response regards this sir. Your honest response would be highly appreciated as I am in a confused state. Thank you sir. |
Re: I Am A U.S. Consular Officer: Ask Me Your Visa Questions. by osashilton: 12:19am On Sep 28, 2013 |
At the moment, he has been filed for as unmarried son on an LPR, the LPR later naturalize and then upgrage the petition from unmarried son of an LPR to unmarried son of a U.S Citizen. If the son then gets married while been filed for as unmarried son of a US citizen, does it make the petition invalid? |
