Oloshi, keep deceiving yourself with Gej. Old dilapidated trains, are renovated for deceptions. The same train tracks the british constructed is what NRC is still using. In common Spain, they have trains that can go 160Km/Hr.I just wondered, Nigeria came to being officially in 1914,almost 100 years, we are not progressing but retrogressing.Nigeria of 1960 is far better off than Nigeria of 2014. What a shame. Nigeria's best brains run out of Nigeria. In Saudi-Arabia alone there are over 5000 Nigerian specialist doctors. Add,US,Canada,Europe etc. Many best brains that get can't get out of Nigeria, have their dreams buried forever.

Common men, its bad enough Dana Air killed 150+ people in a plane over 30 years old now a train fleet that's meant to be consigned to the scrap yard!

Why do black people always accept and rejoice to mediocre or average things! Its true when they say we get the leaders we deserve! I bet the trains were due to be recycled before our leader showed up and asked for them! our people would kiss our butt if we shine this in their faces....

Am sorry Nigeria makes enough money to buy brand new train fleet

What exactly does flagging off mean? Our President came to 'flag-off' Lagos Ibadan expressway a few weeks ago and seems all we can see now is his beautiful signpost and a ceremonial garden. When are we going to see real road construction going on?

Good development. Hope the train service will be improving.

Rail transport is very important.

vivacious vivi: This may slowly put some Logistics companies (dealing in long-distance freight) out of business.
Good move all the same.
Hope its more modern-looking infrastructure and not those "locomotives" I see along Oshodi / Yaba railway! cheesy

If previous government had maintained and sustain the rail system things would be easy for GEJ government to carry on the modernisation of the rail system, but in this case he starting all over, before that can begin the rail system must expanded and return to profit making establishment.

Animal the standard gauge being built by GEJ, from Abuja to Kaduna can go 200km/hr.

This a case of doing with what u have, 90% Nigerians can't pay the fare if modern trains are deployed on those tracks or do u expect to ride in it for free?.

GEJ should keep the tempo and focus on laying the primary foundation, for the next 25 - 30 years we are going to run on locomotives, improve the tracks and safety systems, when the patronage percentage increases and NRC start earning from the investment they will gradually introduce comfortable coaches, and introduce modern locomotive, if we are aiming for Half of rail system I use everyday in Europe fact is the journey is still very far.
