Moving on to some cherry Nigerian Air Force news, the crashed notwithstanding.

FIGHT AGAINST TERRORISM: CAS CALLS FOR SUPPORT FROM CIVIL ORGANIZATIONS

The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, has called for support from relevant civil organizations in the current war against terrorism and other forms of criminalities in Nigeria. He made the call during his operational visit to the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) 115 Special Operations Group (SOG) in Port Harcourt, where he noted the critical role being played by the Unit towards Nigeria’s security. He added that the visit would enable him to assess the level of progress on the ongoing reactivation of 2 NAF helicopters towards increasing the NAF’s operational efficiency. The CAS expressed his satisfaction with the evolving unique partnership between military and civil organizations, as being witnessed in the Unit. “It is gratifying to note that the technical crews of the NAF and AeroContractors are working together to reactivate the NAF Dauphin Helicopter”, he said.

The CAS thanked the management of AeroContractors, Overland Airways and Innoson Group, all of who are rendering various technical services to the NAF, at no or minimal costs to the NAF. He described the gesture of the 3 companies as being exemplary and worthy of emulation. “At times like this, the nation and the military, in particular, require all available indices of power to ensure total victory. We therefore urge other relevant civil organizations to take a cue from the aforementioned organizations by supporting the NAF in the fight against insecurity in Nigeria”, he added. Air Marshal Abubakar also commissioned a new residential building, designed to accommodate 120 new and incoming recruits. The block was named after Late NAF09/24099 Aircraftwoman Abdulmalik H for her gallantry and sacrifice to the nation, in line with the NAF's desire to preserve the memories of fallen heroes and heroines. Late Abdulmalik died on 25 November 2012 during a suicide bomb attack at the Jaji Cantonment Kaduna by members of the Boko Haram Sect.

The CAS and his entourage witnessed a demonstration by the Unit’s Rapelling Team after which the CAS interacted with the officers as well as the airmen/airwomen in 2 separate meetings. According to Air Marshal Abubakar, the best of ideas are not necessarily limited to the top hierarchy and hence his decision to interact with the personnel. The operational visit continues tomorrow, 8 July 2017.
To my NIGERIAN BRETHREN:
Please do a mental history search
The building named after the Late NAF09/24099 Aircraft woman Abdulmalik H could this actually be the first building in the History of the Three Armed Forces to be named after a female officers, just curious not trying to offend thought just occurred to me.

Its sad that Nigeria is insisting on a military solution to haram. Because they are gaining territory they think they are winning but they are actually not, its just that the haram are adapting, blending into the population and resorting to attack cities, eventually they will start going after the capital. What's worse is how brutal the army is towards civilians which ensures they will not cooperate or offer information

Militarily, Boko-Haram has been defeated by the Nigerian military.

Yes, we have won. You are making posts straight out of your terrorists supporting as$ again. The Nigerian military has considerable amount of support in the AOR.

The current Nigerian COAS is from Buratai in Borno state, he's a local boy.

I implore you to think, quite supporting terrorists and path a new course starting today.

The only thing thing that makes us remember boko haram now is suicide bombing and IEDs which has reduced in recent times. Most of the IEDs were planted even before the military took over those territories. This is one of the reasons why most people haven't left the IDP camp. They can't go back to farm yet until the military cleanup these villages. Most people that went back to farm keep getting blown up. North East have the largest population of Nigerian farmers. The cleanup is gradual from one community to another community.

Secondly, you are wrong about the cooperation with the military. As a matter of fact, the citizens of these communities are the ones pointing out the boko haram members and they even formed the civilian JTF in their respective communities.

Thirdly, the military is not wrong by looking out for boko haram hide out. If I have to be sincere with you, I will tell you you can't rule out military actions in the fight against terrorism. You must suppress them before bring in other options. Is like telling the east African force not to use military actions against alshabaab. Well we've passed that stage already, we are only doing some cleanup.

More photos of one of 2 ships the Nigerian navy is interested in. The SSV costs around $41 million, which is quite cheap.

The Philippines navy paid 82 million for 2 ships and intends to acquire 2 more.

The vessel has a minimum operating range of 7,500 nautical miles. It is about 120 meters long and has a maximum carrying capacity of 11,583 tons.

The ship can carry 500 troops, two landing craft units, three helicopters and two rigid-hull inflatable boats. It can also stay for a month at sea.

We are not concentrating on kinetic approach alone Sir
ONSA runs a non kinetic operations that involves safe corridors, deRad, rehab & reintegration. And countering of ideology.

The Nigeria Govt through its Ministries is also trying had to fix social economic factors responsible for providing fuel to the crisis, we are also growing to recharge lake Chad to re establish economic activities effected by climate change n excessive use of the lake

Exactly what I thought. There's minimum offensive capabilities in the NN, no replenishment ship or subs to support a ship of this nature.. If it goes out to sea, it will be a sitting duck.

So this is technically a humanitarian ship, nothing more.

If you want to project 500 soldiers, just buy half a dozen air heavy lifters. Your journey will be quicker.

I don't know where you get this stuff you are printing from.Like Henry pointed out the Chief of Army Staff is Kanuri from the Buratai Village, He has no Village house because his house was burnt down twice his Mother's Village was attacked at least twice untill a unit was detached to deal ruthlessly with BH.
The F.G. has an open corridor and back channel for repentant BH terrorists to surrender and this has worked considerably as at least 70 hard core terrorists surrendered just this week.
The intelligence gotten from the Civilians in the IDP camps is one of the reasons why this war is over, the second is the sheer scale of wickedness, wanton and pointless destruction by BH on innocent people.
97% of their victims are Muslims, Women and Children . Please try not comment on what you have no clue about.

THE COMMON CREEP CRAWLIES IN AFRICAN COMBAT ZONES!

Regulars and specops in Sweden,Belgium or Scotland never face some dangers here.
The KDF used to use the Thomson CSSF radio til the 90s when they upgraded to digital comms. While sending morse more often than not the signaller would receive 'visitors.' Apparently, the whistles and bleeps attract snakes-puff adders, mambas and cobras.Once every 2 days the RT guy would suddenly curse madly and buttstroke an approaching snake . 61mech,did you ever have this issue in Namib?
Crocs are commonly found in EA,these are the larger Nile species compared to what I've seen on the net about Congolese or W African varieties-and yes, they do get hungry. In 2010 or 11 a buddy with the CDU were on their annual march and shoot comp in the Uasu Nyiro swamps in lower N E Kenya. A croc took a guys lower right arm and Beretta ARX-160.
Scorpions and spiders liked hiding out in boots and as expected were common in the North Eastern where an uncle fought Somali bandits. Once in the late 70s during an arty training mission in Baringo in the Rift Valley, a tarantula,I think Saffers call it a baboon spider, bit a gunner in the hand. In minutes his hand swelled up twice the normal size and it seems the anti histamines failed-the dude actually went into arrest and was saved only by immediate casevac to a proper ICU.
Frummie, how much of an issue are the crawlies in the DRC? Forumers, while thinking about the usual force multipliers and enablers, these things reduce morale and can inflict significant non combat casualties. Nemesis2u,how much of an issue is this, especially in the far NE jungles?

Well if they get it, and operationalize their existing ships they could put a battalion and armor ashore... Which in the ECOWAS region is a potent force

Problem is it would, as you say, be a sitting duck. Plus, they would have no way of effective re-supply for sustained operations.
