Algerian1: yeah actually i was grinning like hell when i read the comments especially the downgraded aircraft's part - it reminded me of ' when u dig a pit for others to fall, u will definitely end up in it ' and also the su35 radar part even simplistically speaking which aircraft's nose cone is bigger ( internal volume ) and the SWaP constraints of both the radar systems on each of the aircraft's in question (inclusive of no of T/R modules, cooling system and backend processors) and then retrospectively the implication on range and performance parameters of both the radar systems how difficult is it to counter such claims on simple technicalities 3 Likes |

nemesis4u: It is not accurate to judge good radar by range alone and to shallowly extend the idea that aircraft nose cone size is directly proportional to range of detection. Half of the work is in signal processing and optimization of resources between scanning, tracking and aiming. And yes Sudan is not getting top of the line stuff. 2 Likes |

Let me quickly remind everyone that we heard claims of Nigeria taking delivery of 2 Su-30 and 10 expected in 2018. We all know the news was not true. Why are we so sure Sudan have taken delivery of SU-35 without a single pic? 4 Likes |

newafricaken254: It was us - but we had the whole of Namibia to base our logistics in, and it was a (relatively) short drive from RSA. You could drive up a new Ratel, on paved roads, in a day. Equally you could have a damaged vehicle back in the Depo's in RSA in about a day. No one operating in Somalia has that luxury. The only long term solution would be the building of a large mechanical depo - with mechanics who can work on the dozens of different types of MRAP in Somalia. This all goes down to the problem with accepting hodge-podge donations - equipment uniformity greatly reduces the need for having huge rear-echelon support. 1 Like |

Adminisher: This. Its what makes platforms like the F-35 so potent. Not the radar or the VTOL or the stealth or the new weapons systems. Its the sensor fusion. |

Speaking of which, I was reading up on kmfri's mv.mtafiti expeditions and came upon this stateemnt Kenya Marine Fisheries Research Institute (KMFRI) assistant director, oceanography and hydrography Dr Charles Magori said the vessel has enormous scientific and economic potential to push Kenya into the realm of a regional power in marine management, research and utilisation. “Kenya also applied for an extra 150 nautical miles EEZ extension for exploitation of bottom ocean bed resources. This has been accepted, giving the country an additional 103,000kms. The ship, which can carry a crew of 47, will increase the capacity to police this area,” Dr Magori said. So you mean a country can apply to extend her EEZ nauticle miles ( where it will have exclusive rights to,police, fish, mine minerals ) to the UN and be granted that territory as long as no other country lays claim to the same? |

newafricaken254: Comprehension is skill. Namibia has the paved roads going north to south. And fixing a axel is one thing, building a axel is some thing different. Take that ratel. It sure is flooded. Get a recovery vic, put it in a trailer bring to based and send the engine home. The engine is over haulled and electrical wiring replaced and bam it is fixed. Hell you can do a engine swap in the field at night on a ratel and the battlion work shop can do the rest. 4 Likes |

newafricaken254: 1. Angola =/= Namibia 2. Yes, if you argue that Angola = Namibia, then Mogadishu = warzone 3. Yes - lathes, ALM/CNCM's are high end products that need to be operated by high-skill technicians. Why start an argument for the sake of an argument? 2 Likes |

The Tiffies were the unsung hero's of those Ops. You'd often hear OC's talk of them like they were in love. I've seen mechanics work on engines while they were being towed through the bush. Head down the engine compartment with feet sticking out. You can swap a Casspir axle and suspension in 30 mins. Also consider that most of our drivers were farm boys that grew up working on vehicles from a very young age. They were practically mechanics in their own right. newafricaken254: 1 Like |
