Pakistan J 10C 640J-10 fighters for Pakistan?

The Pakistan Fiza'ya (Pakistan Air Force) seems ready to receive the Chinese made Chengdu Aircraft Corporation (CAC) J-10CE fighter. Many speculations that this would occur have been around for months.

With the CAC/PAC (Pakistan Aeronautical Complex) JF-17 block III Thunder in production this seems odd. It is therefore likely an effort to speed up replacement of older fighter aircraft.

So far, one squadron strength number of these fighters will be delivered according to the minister of the Interior, Sheikh Rasheed. He also claimed they would already be in Pakistan to participate in the yearly defence day parade on 23 March 2022. If that pans out we would have to wait and see. It is rumoured that Pakistan will acquire 36 J-10s in total.

The speedy delivery is seen as a response to India's Rafale acquisition. Critics may even suggest that this is just a political statement, not even uttered by the chief of the air staff, minister of Defence or prime minister .

The Ghanaian media reported that the acquisition has now been reviewed by parliament's Defence and Interior Committee and on 17 December 2021, the Parliament of Ghana approved a €111,4 million performance sales and purchase agreement for the supply of six Aero L-39NG (Next Generation) training and light combat aircraft for the Ghana Air Force. The purchase had been awaiting approval since 2 August 2021.

The aircraft is a single turbofan-engine (Williams FJ44) powered two-seater jet trainer and light attack platform and has an advanced cockpit design that includes full glass cockpit display a sophisticated on board virtual training system and a Helmet Mounted Display.

The L-39NG is a key component of an innovative training concept developed by Aero Vodochody that includes state-of-the-art ground-based training devices, new learning methods and environment and extensive use of Virtual Reality and Artificial Intelligence technologies. It has been designed as a maintenance-friendly aircraft in anticipation of many decades of service. The new aircraft is based on the L-39 Albatros that is still widely used in both the trainer and light attack roles, but has a new lighter airframe, a more powerful and efficient engine, modern avionics, two additional hardpoints on the end of its wings where fuel tanks were located on its predecessor, and an undercarriage that can handle unpaved airstrips.

Ghana L 39NG cockpit 320The increased efficiency of the Williams FJ-44 4M engine, reduction in weight and drag, and new fuel system gives it a maximum range of 1,900 km without external fuel tanks, 800 km farther than the L-39, according to Aero Vodochody. The company says the aircraft will have similar operating costs as a turboprop and announced in March 2021 that life cycle testing showed it has a service life of up to 15,000 flight hours, three-times longer than the L-39.

The L-39NG has also been sold to Senegal, which ordered four aircraft due to be delivered during 2021 and to Vietnam, which ordered twelve aircraft in February 2021 due to be delivered to the Vietnam's People Air Force from 2023 through to 2024. The contracts include aircraft spare parts, equipment for ground-based training, logistics support and specialised airport systems.

A look at the logistical demands of conventional warfare: the Siege of Dien Bien Phu.

The story of the 2 month old siege is told grippingly by Bernard Fall, a French journo. He views the battle through the eyes of both the Viet Minh and opposing French forces with all the various participating units, the FFL, paras,Moroccans and Algerians along with their commanders featuring prominently.

Long story short this book is required reading along with The Art of War by Sun Tzu and Clausewitz , On War in military academies worldwide for all the wrong reasons. It details what happens when the Brass sees ONLY what they want to see.
There were so many problems with the site of Dien Bien Phu you'd think Rawalpindi GHQ planned the whole operation!
-Firstly it was at the near limit of French air support
- the base was undermanned being outnumbered 3.5 to 1
- not NEARLY enough fortification was done
- the entire valley was prone to flooding
- the arty commander was as overoptimistic as his bosses stating," I've got more guns than I need." (!?) He committed suicide less than 24 hrs after the ishyt began
- the logistics of conventional siege warfighting for such a large force were wayyyyy beyond anything France could've realistically managed.

One telling factoid:
Ammunition, suddenly, had become
a priority item as Dien Bien Phu had fired almost five days of ammunition in less than three: 12,600
rounds of 105 out of 27,000; 10,000 rounds of 120-mm. mortars out of 23,000; and one-fifth of its 3,000
rounds of 155-mm. medium howitzer ammunition.

The agonising end was entirely expected.

French losses at Dien Bien Phu totaled 2,293 killed, 5,195 wounded and 10,998 captured. Viet Minh casualties exceeded 23,000.
Btw, a lot of those guys being led away never made it back. Guys, read this book! The pace and scene are like a very good movie.

Is this the complete reactivation of the original Marine unit disbanded in 1990 or the nucleus of a future corps?
Full amphib capable Marine units with all own assets, logistics, air, AFVs etc, etc are ideal especially for expeditionary warfare but knowing the deliberate budget squeeze I'm doubtful.
Here's a typical USMC MEU, Marine Expeditionary Unit structure as deployed on Amphibious Assault Ships,basically mini supercarriers at 800 instead of 1000 feet. This is the Makin Island.
I know there are plans here for a battalion size force but its to be done incrementally. First a couple of coys and own choppers as budgets are increased gradually. The whole process should take a decade but Idk how far along it is.

Do you still get those giant Moz prawns? IIRC, they're from the North near Tz where your guys are culling them. If those medieval Islamist FKrs have instituted a kind of embargo that imo is worth fighting for!

Anyways many people do not realise the importance of logistics , it will easily make or break any war effort

During one of the wars in our neighborhood , the hostile logistics chain was interrupted for few hours in a sector , the brigade came under aerial attack simultaneously , they expanded their ammo of all calibres including small arms trying to shoot the aircrafts , which was foolish bec they needed only to hunker down , than the inevitable happened , without any ammo left even for the small arms & news of no resupply, the troops starting fleeing , this started a chain reaction , troops at the rear even with full ammo started fleeing due to panic response

In a high intensity conflict , better be with 10 guns with assured resupply than 20 guns with no assured resupply , plays havoc at the minds of the soldiers

Imagine the logistical challenges of resupplying say 3 batteries of 4 105 mm howitzers 500 km from base. Your lift normally consists of 4 C 295s but one was damaged in a crash landing the other is undergoing the Check 3 which IIRC is after 1000 hrs incl thorough power plant and airframe fatigue tests lasting minimum a week and a half while one is casevacking guys from a besieged brigade 800 km North. Iow you've a lone Casa for resupply.
A 295 maxes out at just over 9 T load and average weight of 105 milly rounds is 12 kg meaning 650 rounds can be lifted max. As you know one gun can fire hundreds of rounds in a single fire mission and there are 12 guns total.
Do you see a major challenge!?

Yeah , not only resupply but the ability to sustain & up them as per the battlefield demands & under counter action is definitely a challenge

Similar thing happened with a artillery unit of own side , they ran when they ran out of ammo grin

In the NE front a entire battalion chose to fight with bayonets in close combat after resupply of ammo was blocked , everyone got KIA

For now, a partial reactivation. Still a way to go before they reach the strength of the old SAMC. Their current operational structure:
--- Operational Boat Division (OBD) with Namacurra-class patrol boats and Lima-class utility landing craft;
--- Reaction Force Division (RFD) consisting of (2?) naval infantry companies with a command and support element;
--- Operational Diving Division (ODD) consisting of four operational diving teams;
--- Operational Maintenance Division (OMD) which maintains all the unit equipment.

The good thing is that 4Recce no longer has to do VBSS duties, as the Marines now do that. It was a misuse of SF as a strategic asset on a day-to-day tactical tasking.
The 2nd good thing is that all those years of anti-piracy patrols in the Moz Channel has allowed them to build up a wealth of knowledge on Cabo Delgado, due to both sea and land patrols.
