The might that is the SANDF with a ever shrinking budget and 0 acquisitions over the past year have managed to skyrocket from 32nd on the GFP index to 26th leap frogging Algeria to become the second most powerful defence force after Egypt in Africa grin grin grin grin

https://www.globalfirepower.com/country-military-strength-detail.php?country_id=south-africa

Rankings for Africa:
1. Egypt - 12th
2. SA - 26th
3. Algeria 31st
4. Nigeria 35th
5. Morocco 55th

No way we are ahead of Algeria. Yes our sophistication of economy, level of industrialisation, available manpower of fighting age is miles ahead, but all that is cancelled out by not only the sheer size of their military, but also how modern and logistically rational it (Algerian military) all is.

Personally, I rank it thus:
1. Algeria;
2. Egypt;
3. South Africa;
4. Nigeria;
5. Morocco.

Egypt above Algeria imo.... Just the sheer size of the Egyptian military makes even Algeria look small

The real Egyptian economy is hardly worth talking about. Their massive military arsenal comes to a screeching halt should they not spread the butt cheeks well enough for their sugar daddies.
That's why I rank the Algerians higher.

South Africa has already achieved more in Moz than the Nigerian army in its own country wink so although I agree the ranking is fvcked the SANDF is still streets ahead of the Nigerian Defence force... So I suggest you calm the fvck down agubugu cool

And in 2018 you fully agreed with GFP when it ranked Nigeria ahead of SA.... You remember that?

The evidence of your delusion is clear for all to see making comparison between light terrorists in Mozambique with ISWAP in the LCB and the Sahel but of course no surprises to how low you'd sink to score cheap points. Let ISWAP show up in your country and you bet that same Nigeria will be the one's you will be begging to save your republic. I have said it before and I repeat if ISWAP were to exist in any other sub-saharan African country the Caliphate would have been a reality a long time ago.

I take with a pinch of salt you agree the GFP rankings are flawed because I know deep down being irrational you are gallivanting. What's irrefutable is the rankings are flawed because it does not reflect actual reality but the figment and perception of the authors imagination.

The Covert may agree with a narrative doesn't mean endorsement. I don't subscribe to GFP as a credible source for military rankings heck I don't even agree with the open source info of the CIA knowing the black arts of intelligence is to lie in plain sight whilst feeding their masters back home the true reality and state of things.

The rankings should properly be in this order

Sub-Saharan Africa
1. Nigeria
2. South Africa

North Africa
1. Egypt
2. Algeria

This more accurately reflects the geopolitical order of power rankings. GFP is not credible.

THE OFFENSIVE

Not sure if this here which gives credence to my earlier mentions is sarcasm or lilliputian grin
Yet the proof of the pudding is in the eating. The Nigerian military in actual reality not conjecture by paid hacks and lobbyists at GFP

NAF Super Tucano Eliminates another ISWAP Commander Mallam Ari, Foreign Mercenaries at Kirta Wulgo

The Nigerian military has kept to its commitment in targeting key terrorists as air interdiction strikes undertaken by Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Super Tucano aircraft under Operation Hadin Kai have eliminated several ISWAP Commanders and terrorists at Kirta Wulgo.

PRNigeria gathered that ISWAP Senior Commander, Mallam Ari in charge of Kirta Wulgo and foreign mercenaries fabricating Improvised Explosive Devise (IED) for the terrorists were killed during the airstrikes by the aircraft.

A senior intelligence official said that the airstrikes were authorized after intelligence revealed over 40 terrorists converging at the fringes of Northeast Kirta Wulgo, close to a point where a suspected ISWAP flag was hoisted.

“Some were also seen with weapons around a nearby make-shift structure, which was a likely indication that the structure might have had a high calibre terrorist target.

“After the airstrikes, some of the surviving terrorists were observed making frantic efforts to put out the fire that ensued while others took to their heels.

“Indeed, the make-shift structures were significantly burnt and destroyed at the fringes.”

“Several ISWAP fighters were neutralized in the air strikes including one Mallam Ari who was identified as the Fiya of Kirta Wulgo.”

Fiya is a title held by the second in the hierarchy of the terrorists’ military structure.

When contacted, the NAF spokesperson Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, confirmed that the NAF indeed carried out some strikes in areas around Kirta Wulgo, but remained silent as the number or identities of the casualties.

ISWAP leadership recently made sweeping changes to their structures due to the loss of some of its key members killed mainly through air strikes by NAF aircraft.

Algeria takes delivery of first of four C-130J Super Hercules

The Algerian Air Force has received the first of four C-130J-30 Super Hercules transports ordered from Lockheed Martin in 2018.

The US Embassy in Algiers said on 23 January that the first aircraft had been delivered that day. It added that Algeria’s contract for four aircraft includes an option for four more.

The Algerian Air Force already operates C-130H and C-130H-30 Hercules transports, which are in service with the 2ème Escadre de Transport Tactique et Logistique at Boufarik air base. Nine C-130H and four C-130H-30 transports are believed to be operational, along with a single L100-30. They have been in service since the early 1980s but two have been lost in crashes.

Other transports in service include half a dozen C295s, half a dozen Il-76TDs and numerous smaller Beech 1900Ds and Super King Airs.

Algeria is the second C-130J Super Hercules operator in Africa after Tunisia received two aircraft in 2013 and 2014. Twenty other nations around the world operate the type, while Germany, Indonesia, and New Zealand will also receive Super Hercules in the near future.

Although unconfirmed, Algeria is believed to have recently ordered four Ilyushin Il-76MD-90 transports.

The GFP ranking is fvcked up, I took my time to study the ranking my self and I discovered that the ranking is a child's play, in 2021 GFP said Nigeria have 2,000 armored vehicles now in 2022 GFP said Nigeria have 2,019 armored vehicles and this is not true because the Nigerian army alone received up to 300 armored vehicles not including other forces.. The total number of our active personal has been the same since 2018 while the nigerian army has been recruiting thousands of troops just last year Nigeria army alone recruited 8,000 men in the first six months and another 4,800 past out in November bring the total numbers of troops recruited to 12,800 not including other force and that's one third of the entire south African army.. there are many things that I saw in their 2022 update that makes me believe that Global fire power ranking is a child's play and one of those things are 1: ranking a declining South Africa military ahead of Almighty Algeria

Uganda commissions helicopter MRO facility

Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni has commissioned a helicopter maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) facility, which is refurbishing Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF) Mi-24 helicopters.

The facility was formally opened by Museveni at Nakosongola Air Base on 22 January. It is a joint venture by the UPDF’s commercial arm, the National Enterprise Corporation (NEC), and Pro-heli International, a Russian company.

According to Pro-heli, the company has been partnering with Uganda since 2016. Its core products and services are the overhaul of Mi-17 and Mi-24 helicopters. “This overhaul is fully certified and gives the same TBO [time between overhaul] and extension of the service life as any plant in Russia.”

Pro-heli also sells and orders spares and executes “all types of routine maintenance according to the technical specifications of the manufacturer.” The company can also modernise or upgrade Mi-17 and Mi-24 helicopters.

During the commissioning, Museveni said the MRO facility will be developed into a hub not only for the entire East African Region including United Nations Missions that use Russian helicopters, but for the entire continent.

He added that it will save Uganda a lot of money, as it cost around $3.5 million to transport and overhaul a single helicopter outside of Uganda.

Uganda is making great strides in growing its military industrial base and becoming more independent. NEC, in partnership with the United Arab Emirates’ Streit Group, will soon be opening an armoured vehicle factory (NEC-Streit Uganda Ltd).

In August 2018 Uganda officially launched an Armoured Vehicle Manufacturing and Assembly Facility in Maga Maga. Its first product was the Mamba-based Nyoka armoured personnel carrier, created in collaboration with South Africa’s Twiga Services and Logistics via its Ugandan sister company Impala Services and Logistics.

In October 2021, the UPDF commissioned the locally manufactured Chui (Leopard) infantry fighting vehicle (IFV), which is based on Twiga’s recently launched Nyati. The Chui is manufactured by the Armoured Vehicle Manufacturing and Assembly Facility.

EGYPT – C-130J-30 SUPER HERCULES AIRCRAFT

WASHINGTON, January 25, 2022 - The State Department has made a determination approving a possible Foreign Military Sale to the Government of Egypt of C-130J-30 Super Hercules Aircraft and related equipment for an estimated cost of $2.2 billion. The Defense Security Cooperation Agency delivered the required certification notifying Congress of this possible sale today.

The Government of Egypt has requested to purchase twelve (12) C-130J Super Hercules aircraft with four (4) each Rolls Royce AE-2100D Turboprop Engines (installed); twelve (12) Rolls Royce AE-2100D Turboprop Engines (spares); thirty (30) Embedded GPS/INS (EGI) with GPS Security Devices (including 6 spares); and seven (7) Multifunctional Information Distribution System – Low Volume Terminal Block Upgrade Two (MIDS-LVT BU2) (including 3 spares). Also included are AN/APX-119 Identification Friend or Foe (IFF) Transponders; AN/AAR-47 Missile Warning Systems (MWS); AN/ALE-47 Countermeasures Dispensing System (CMDS); AN/ALR-56M Radar Warning Receiver (RWR); AN/AAQ-22 (STAR SAFIRE 380); secure communications, cryptographic equipment, and GPS-aided precision navigation equipment; publications and technical documentation; software and mission critical resources; aircraft support and equipment; unclassified return and repair; integration and testing; personnel training and training equipment; U.S. Government and contractor engineering, technical, and logistics support services; and other related elements of logistical and program support. The estimated total program cost is $2.2 billion.

This proposed sale will support the foreign policy and national security of the United States by helping to
improve the security of a Major Non-NATO Ally that continues to be an important strategic partner in the
Middle East.

The proposed sale will improve Egypt’s capability to meet current and future threats by providing airlift
support for its forces by moving supplies, equipment, and people, thus strengthening its capacity in the
security and humanitarian arena. This airlift capability would assist with border security, the interdiction of
known terrorist elements, rapid reaction to internal security threats, and humanitarian aid. Egypt also intends to utilize these aircraft for maritime patrol missions and search and rescue missions in the region. Egypt, which already operates a mix of legacy C-130s, will have no difficulty absorbing these aircraft and services into its armed forces.

The proposed sale of this equipment and support will not alter the basic military balance in the region.

The principal contractor will be Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Company in Marietta, GA. There are no known offsets proposed in conjunction with this potential sale.

Implementation of this proposed sale will require the assignment of two (2) contracted Field Service
Representatives (FSR) and one (1) Logistic Service Representative (LSR) for a period of three (3) years. The FSRs and LSR will have expertise in airframe, avionics/electrical, propulsion systems, ground maintenance systems, and logistics support.

There will be no adverse impact on U.S. defense readiness as a result of this proposed sale.

This notice of a potential sale is required by law. The description and dollar value is for the highest estimated quantity and dollar value based on initial requirements. Actual dollar value will be lower depending on final requirements, budget authority, and signed sales agreement(s), if and when concluded.

All questions regarding this proposed Foreign Military Sale should be directed to the State Department's Bureau of Political Military Affairs, Office of Congressional and Public Affairs, pm-cpa@state.gov.

South Africa does not have a Muslim population like Nigeria nor is it in a region of the Sahel susceptible to jihadi radicalization. Terrorism in relation to Nigeria is a complex power game involving internal and external dynamics to bring a black giant to its knees. Something the Nigerian Armed Forces has appreciably brought to a halt by the force of arms. However if ISWAP were to show up on your borders I repeat you couldn't do same not with your present army.

The countries you mention put together does not measure up to the exploits of the Nigerian military elsewhere. Don't be so deluded you choose not to see reason. The RUF alone was a standing army just like ISWAP today only the latter is even more deadlier for they come to die something none of the combatants where you mention can be compared to. And please don't mention CAR because you'd be dressed down let's just honor the sacrifices of the men who paid the supreme sacrifice their. The other countries you mention are PKO, SA operates with other countries else it would have turned out a disaster just like the CAR. In Mozambique the Rwandans are doing much heavy lifting not the South Africans who only carry out some specialized operations. The terrorists in Mozambique don't have the men nor the resources to compare to ISWAP.

Nigeria's Armed Forces is in very good shape and to all intents and purposes the very best Sub-saharan Africa has today. Modernization continues apace with anticipated deliveries of more game changing and wonder weapons. Soon to be added to the inventory is 24 M346 FAs that alone changes the dynamics of Air Warfare from Cape to Cairo. The logistics of this aircraft brings capacity and capabilities that gives the NAF decision advantages in a dedicated war environment. The Navy is on schedule to receive two Landing Ship Tanks (LSTs), also expecting Light Frigates and at least one purpose built Frigate in the class of the Aradu. Most of these are already paid for. Really are we supposed to be doing this again, it's clear like daylight you are no longer a viable competitor we have since moved on. The evidence is glaring for all to see. Apart from these acquisitions the Navy is active at Sea with it's current assets in full operations something that cannot be said of your Navy. I haven't mentioned the NA in all of this matrix.

Nigeria's procurement is based on Purpose-To-Task with the finest and best trained officers in all of Africa unlike your bloated SANDF with a moribund Navy, depleted Air Force and pot bellied Army of Generals who can't even match in step. While we have inducted 3 Air Superiority & Multi-role BVR capable JF-17 Thunder Fighter Jets and F-7Ni Airguards for point Air Defense Nigeria does not currently have any Air-Air threats, we are only preparing for future wars. No, Morocco is not even on our radar I can tell you, our position is clear and our military planners backed by our political masters are heading to be the number one military power in Africa and on budget.

Let us quit this tete-a-tete. Any geo-strategic thinker can see the trajectory of Nigeria.

BH is still running rampant in your own country while on the other hand Isis-Moz is being hammered by a small contingency of SANDF soldiers...... The mere fact that it was national news that a single SA soldier was KIA vs the fact that it barely makes 3rd page news if droves of Nigerian soldiers are KIA in a BH offensive speaks volumes....

- Mozambique is also not in the Sahel and neither does it have a massive Muslim population yet its being over run by islamists and now we are clearing them out with devastating efficiency.... Even with our air support problems..... There is a reason your government requested our SFs to help you fight BH. Secondly a force like BH will never be able to establish itself in SA,the security services (private and public) is simply to sophisticated for that to ever happen.

- CAR was a (political) disaster yes, but certainly not a military one...... 200 lightly armed SANDF soldiers vs 4000 rebels which fyi were better armed than BH ever was with IFVs, APCs, several technicals ect ect yet raised the white flag after loosing close to 1000 men vs only 13 SA soldiers.... As for our other exploits... Well that's well documented. Also the Rwandans are only protecting Total's assets... That's it, they are barely doing any fighting as we speak

- Nigeria is not getting any M346... Fact! Neither are you getting any Frigates...just LSTs... And not very big ones at that as well.

- you have Neighbours with Mig 29s my bru? That's not a threat? Even worse is Nigeria has no ground based air defence so literally all you have are 3 JF17s and a bunch of obsolete mig21s/F7s

The latest, authorised by the State Department in November 2019, committed Boing to send a batch of 24 AH64E Apache helicopters and related equipment to the Moroccan armed forces for an estimated value of $4 billion, about Dh14.7 million.

This agreement is not the first to be approved by the State Department. A few months earlier, the North African country had acquired 25 Lockheed Martin-built F-16 fighter jets.

Are you sure?

I'm neutral in all these high self esteem exchanges-I'd rather watch Oprah than get involved in the noise but I must interject. Don't be homotional!? Make your point without schoolboy one-upmanship.

the art or practice of achieving, demonstrating, or assuming superiority in one's rivalry with a friend or opponent by obtaining privilege, status, status symbols, etc.:
the one-upmanship of getting into the president's car pool.

It reduces debate to vitriolic ululations that ruined ToT. Also have figures and stats to make your point. I recently had some per capita defense spending to allow for comparison. We and the Saffas outspend you 4x+ IIRC-how will yopu achieve the last?
Respond with facts for discussion,pls.

Shut up, if u can't deploy to Mozambique alone bt need to coerce ur neighbors to join speak alot, what's the population of terrorists in Mozambique, wat re the ir weaponry, re they supported by by neighboring terrorists if any even exist, do they have access to save heaven across the borders.

why must we deploy alone?? We are part of SADC and its a SADC deployment in a SADC region which is commanded by an SANDF commander...

And yes running rampant as in they actually hold territory in your own country....

Also why can't I use CAR as an example? Its 100% proof of the excellent training and skill of our soldiers.....show me another force in history that was outnumbered 20 to 1 yet still made the enemy raise the white flag.

And Isis Moz number around 4000 same as ISWAP

For Kikuyi1 And Any Humble Learner

This is not a drill these are real facts. Is this some of kind of brinkmanship I read. I get it some of you want to be heard so you come here and reel out inanities begging for facts.

Listen young man get it into your thick skull your country Kenya can never outspend Nigeria on defence not in a million years except there ceases to be a Nigeria. How many times would different authors here and other experts in reputable mediums tell you Nigeria's cumulative budget is opaque. Please tell us how much China has as its defence budget and if the world's intellengstia agrees with it. Even when its glaring the acquisitions Nigeria makes outstrips what is on paper you guys still come here to measure sleeves. Their are Army procurements known but no one knows exactly how many and for good reason.

If you don't like my tone your condescending language brought it on. You guys can be so insecure and base. What is "homotional & school boy one-upmanship" about evidence of Nigeria's military prowess that are real facts. How much low can you guys go. E dey pain abi.

There's a whole configuration of elements that go into making a war. Buying shiny new machines is one of them the other being what those machines can actually do and the operators. Most of the arms the North Africans are buying cannot perform the whole spectrum of what they can potentially do because of restrictive clauses in the purchase contracts except for Algeria's which also has its drawbacks being mainly Russian weapons. I have said a lot about this over the years educating you guys mostly anyway for no pay just for fun. Nigeria's Super Tucanos are great assets better than anything you have flying in the KDF but clearly people now know what goes into buying from certain climes.

Nigeria has elements of national power that outstrips all of North of Africa combined. Its people, its resources these are what makes and sustains wars. That's why Nigeria's ongoing strategic shift of procurements when mature will bring in hard assets that counter balances Egypt, Algeria and any other African power.

South Africa is the only important country in Africa apart from Egypt that Nigeria sees as having any short term potential but in the geopolitical race for relevance it is clearly no longer a viable competitor as predicted by The Africa Report a decade earlier. It stands no chance. It does not have the population size nor resources both human and material to compete in the future which reflects also on its military. I can't keep educating you. Learn and grow up.
