There was an attack on nairaland.com a couple years ago, 2013 or so. During the cyber-attack we lost 6 months of data and this website was off-line for 2weeks.

hope is the site now has better defences, however I think the current issue is, nairaland.com needs to get a better host. It has become to large for the servers of its current host.
]such an attack can also slow down the internet traffic by clogging the bandwidth, its time our law enforcement agencies seriously start investing in cyber security.internet is no longer a luxury but a necessity to our economy growth

Take it from a South African , it would be a terrible idea, firstly we never manufacture the Olifant from scratch but used existing centurion platforms which basically means we can't build any more Olifant, so that would mean you would need to buy from our Surplus stocks, which consist of only Mk1As which are basically WW2 Centurions.

The only time it would be worth while is getting your hands on the mk1b or mk2 versions.....which i guarantee we would never sell.

Upgrading your existing T72s and Vickers might be a better idea

The important phrase, help develop better tanks that means I am aware of the short comings.

If that vehicle is executed according to the 3D renders we've seen, it's probably gonna be the best looking military product to come out of Nigeria.

I have no doubts it would look like the render. For the company to have presented that render at AAD 2016, they are confident. I'm also confident.

The best looking Nigerian military product is NNS Karaduwa, the 40 meters seaward defence boat.

It's 4 pods on ops in the DRC. Might be wrong, but I think the outer pylon is for AAMs.
The outer hard points are for AAMs.

4 rocket pods can be carried.

Are you sure punch didn't copy information from this thread? The same punch that said the Yahbon will be replacing our CH3??

Normally i wouldn't even bother reading articles like that to the end, but they made mention of the CAS and note they said Brazilian air force, i hope its not some kind of equipment transfer deal.

Well , new tank development isn't going to come from down South, we figured out that the whole idea of the tank is a short coming in Southern Africa!

That retarded Africaken254, has contributed his fair share to African military media. Although he is mostly ignorant on some matters, and has his Africaken moments you have to praise the immense efforts he has put in.

He is Maumau, that was his moniker at militaryphotos. Net. He virtually single-handedly ran the African military thread for at-least 2 years.

He deserves an applause for his efforts.
I honestly look forward to Ken and patches posts on this thread grin

those of us who dont always want to spend on our country defence will now definitely have to spend,i also believe countries will opt to buy weapons from other countries rather than america.because they will fear trump will tomorrow deny them spare parts, ammo e.t.c in case a dispute arises between them and trump regime.he already threaten not to buy oil from saudi arabia

Not really.

Nothing is more effective at destroying main battle tanks than another an enemy main battle tank.

Southern Africa might not be "tank friendly" environment but encountering a foe with MBTs. Will have you wishing you had tanks too. The SADF deployed the Olifant cause units of the 20 SA brigade in the Angola had to be cautious attacking enemy units reinforced with tanks.

1. New main battle tank.

2. New light armour.

3. New or enhanced medium armour.

Yet Ratel 90s and Ratel ZT3s killed many many more enemy tanks than our own Olifant!! hell we deployed less than 30 Olifant vs 150 enemy Tanks at Cuito, yet look at the result!

The Ratels did score many tank kills but crews were endangered.

But look at factors:

1. SA deployed EW capabilities.

- Communications jamming.

2. Incompetence of the Angolan tank crews. In the late 80s that was starting to change.

- Angolan armour soldiers were starting to be of higher quality than their regular infantry.

The Ratel.

The Ratel-90 sought of replaced the Eland-90. Using the same turret and gun. To kill a T-55 MBT the Ratel-90 had to get up close and had to use more than one shot or one luck shot to penetrate and kill it.

The deployment of the Olifant alongside 4 SAI was cause of the threat of the T-55s. There was no effective tool in dealing with them.

Initially South Africa deployed "specialists" to hunt and destroy them (T-55s) but the Angolans would simply use infantry to screen them.

The Ratel-ZT3 was still a prototype and these are under command of the battalion OC. Covering the flanks of attacking force etc. They didn't get many kills with their "Mongol missiles".

I'm personally not a fan of putting larger guns of Infantry fighting vehicles. As they have larger silhouettes cause of their infantry compartments. Making them easier targets. As larger guns means they'll be utilized as tanks killers. Lacking armour.

Being used outside their intended role. Just like Eland and Ratel.

Vehicles like Ratel-90, Rooikat should be used for tasks such as combat reconnaissance not combat against tanks. They'll be a snack for competent MBTs crews!

The Ratel 90 was effective at killing T55s after multiple shots. It's 2016, tanks have got more armour and they carry way bigger guns. The Ratel 90 and Rooikat have been designated as fire support vehicles than tank killers they were once were. In a modern battlefield, these 2 vehicles would be used to attack machine gun nests, light armour vehicles like APCs and IFVs but will have to hit the dust if tanks entered the arena..... It is for this very reason why the generals insisted on the arming of the Rooivalk AH in the 90s so it would compensate for the lack of modern heavy armour in the SANDF.
