Mrs Farida Waziri, the new boss of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) was absolutely right when she told a visiting delegation of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) led by Olisa Agbakoba, NBA President that here in Nigeria too many persons in public office are mentally ill, and that to sanitise the Nigerian public space, aspiring public office holders should be subjected to psychiatric tests. "According to her" The Guardian reports, "Most of the negative character traits exhibited by public officers in the country, especially massive looting of the treasury, are symptoms of mental illness."

She even tried to identify these negative traits: the theft of public funds, primitive accumulation, and greed. "You know if you are stealing what you need, it is a different thing but if you are grabbing left, right and centre throughout, then your character should be called to question. This, she said, is necessary in order to help many Nigerians who cannot even raise a voice against some of these practices. They cannot feed three square meals while those who occupy public offices through elections, return to their villages, demolish their shanties and replace them with paradise with no regard for their neighbours who cannot feed. This is merciless". Thank you, Mrs Waziri.

I think the problems are both psychiatric and physiological
The mental illness can be cured, hopefully
A lot has to be done in the areas of primitive accumulation and
stealing of public funds.

All loop holes must be plugged
Laws must be applied strictly and offenders punished severely
The greed and insatiable want will be wiped out of their stupid
and fat stomachs!

IQ test should be mandatory.People that doesn't even know what intelligence stands for runs the affairs of men,it's like entrusting a nutty child with great and enormous responsibilities.

No relationship between IQ and corruption
It is a systemic problem
The smarter ones bleed the system more

It is not a smart thing to bleed one's country,it's sub-human.

On this point there are some observations I like to make.

1. It is true that most politcians are mentally ill from drug abuse, fetish applications, disregard for basic common decency and respect for fellow human being basic needs.

2. Corruption in Nigeria is a combination of Fear of security after the office holder has left office and pure unadulterated super Greed.

3. 'oppressionism' is another reason why majority of our so called leaders, or shall we say 'RULERS/LORDSHIP' accummulate stolen wealth/riches they cannot even finish the interest in their grandchildrens lives not to talk of the actual capital

4. Also corruption is the norm and good behaviour in public office is an exception, so it will require the special grace of God to be able to break the cycle. Think for a minute a politicians child who braggs around as if he/she has done a single work in his/her entire life. ordinary folks will copy that  and hope to do the same when they find there way to public office.

5. The only business you can make an insane amount of monies with little investment monies of yours is public office.

Now as For the New EFCC boss, it appears to me that she has make the best Criminal defence counsel argument in a generation. so everyone fasten your seat belt and look forward to newly indicted Public official claiming mental illness maybe not as a defence per se but as a mitigation for the reason for commiting their crimes and I make a bold prediction that that will propably start from IBori and Fani Kayode

Yar A'dull has made a grave mistake by removing uncostitutionally RIBADU and his Govt will fail miserably because of this. Waziri will never or will be unable to prosecute with vigour like RIBADU any of those criminals calling themselves Governors.

CAN ANYBODY TELLS ME WHEN RIBADU WAS THERE THEY DON'T FEAR EFCC NOW IT IS BUSINESS AS USUAL. EFCC WILL SIMPLY BECOME AREA 'F' COMMAND OF THE NIGERIAN POLICE.

can Waziri seriously refuse a bribe of $15million dollars in one case? Time will tell.

This is bologne! What has mental condition or low IQ to do with Corruption and lack of motivation to do work?? Can we please start telling these people to stick their excuses in the right place?? We have people with mental problems who work here for government and they do a good job. Stealing and all on her list have absolutely nothing to do with mental retardation. She needs to stop insulting mentally retarded people and focus on dealing with issues as is. As if there is a test to determine who will steal and who will not when hired.

She should focus on getting her job dones and ridding the system of those who are not able to meet goals required of them. Not create a situation where the system now unfairly discriminates against one group unreasonably.

To put it simply,
Most of our public office holders and public affairs commentators
are mentally and morally corrupt sad!
I do agree with her

@ vigasimple , and God/god or satan or whatever has got nothing to do with this

I repeat we need extra special grace of God to break this cycle we have been nearly 50 years we have been since independence.

Satan is already helping us to continue in a sloppery slip we have been and withouth the extra special grace of God all argument and 'mouth revolution' we yab on Nairaland will not change anything. If anything experience has taught us that it only get worse.

Even among the majority of people on this site, given the opportunity they are propably going to be worse than our current leaders.

If you want us to continue the way we are , then don't worry satan is already doing it for you.

If on the other hand you want a radical change let us continue to work hard at finding a solution and at the same time ask for the special grace of God to take us to another level.

You cannot have mediocres and expect success.

When the brain is dormant, every other thing goes dormant. The brain is not at work in nigeria, people are not using it,they don't understand what it stands for, they think things happens by chance,or by the grace of god, witchcraft and juju,to them technology is act of whitewitch, while african witch is black,it can only perform in illusion, flying with out wings, bastards.
