Barely two days after his convoy was
involved in an accident that led to the
death of a former President of the
Academic Staff Union of Universities
(ASUU), Prof. Festus Iyayi, Kogi State
Governor, Idris Wada, has approved
the re-construction of the Lokoja-
Okene Road at the cost of over N2
billion.
The road, running through Lokoja
metropolis, belongs to the federal
government and is one of the failed
roads littering the state capital.
The accident that claimed Iyayi's
life happened at Banda village, a few
kilometres outside Lokoja, while the
governor was returning from an
official engagement in Abuja.
Other roads also to be constructed
include Idah and Egbe township
roads.
The state Commissioner for
Information, Mr. Yabaji Bologi, told
journalists yesterday, after the state
executive council's meeting that the
council also approved the
establishment of the State Road
Maintenance Agency (KSRMA),
which has been given N332 million
as a takeoff grant.
The commissioner also said over
N95 million was also considered by
the council for the electrification of
the Post-flood Housing Estate in
Lokoja, while N50 million was also
approved for women empowerment in
the state under the Public-Private
Partnership (PPP) arrangement with
the Kogi Micro-Finance Bank.

Unfortunate country.

Some newspapers stated that Lokoja - Abuja road reconstruction has been up to ten years.

Ten years for a road of just two hours journey? Absolute crazy country.

While this is a good development, one begins to wonder why our leaders are always reactive instead of being proactive. Same thing happens in the aviation industry, only when their is a crash or near crash that different frivolous probe committees are set up (whose findings for most of the times are not implemented), airlines are suspended and so on.

That money that was just approved, did it just appear from the blues?
Why wait till he had an accident on the road (which now claimed an 'influential' person) before thinking f fixing it.
What happens to other roads that are claiming peoples lives but haven't claimed that of an influential person yet? I guess those that ply those roads would be left to their fate.

Well, now that the road is about to be fixed, what happens to the reckless driving of his convoy, will he still wait till another accident happens before he (or whoever its his or her duty) talks some sense into their apparently thick skulls? Then the powder brained special assistant will come out and tell us that they only drive at 80 km/hr, is he for real?, 80Km/hr and they had an accident in which the governors ADC died last year, 80km/hr and Prof Festus Iyayi died this year. I am sure this special assistant thinks Nigerians are in the kindergarten.

What is the meaning of 'kogi begins construction....' when it is clearly indicated that it was just being approved? undecided

That's what you get when you entrust your ballot paper to a PDP candidate.
