Niger Delta Bishops Visit Lamido. by nagoma(m): 1:12pm On Nov 21, 2013 |
Category: News Published on Thursday, 21 November 2013 05:00 A group of Niger Delta bishops led by Prophet Jones Erue yesterday called on Governor Sule Lamido of Jigawa State not give up in his efforts to ensure that the Project Nigeria succeeds in spite of what it called persecution and humiliation that may come with it. Bishop Erue, who led nine other Niger Delta bishops to see Lamido said they are in the state as part of their consultations with stakeholders on what he called leadership crisis in the country. “We are leaders of Eminent Bishops from the Niger Delta, we have about 500 bishops under our organization. We are here to express our concern over the impunity, intolerance and leadership crisis going in the country today. We are not happy with what is going on and as clerics we cannot fold our arms and pretend that we don’t know what is happening. If we do, what started like a joke could spell doom for the country. We are not here to reconcile Lamido as member of the G- 7 Governors with the PDP. We are here to see him as major stakeholder in the Nigerian project. We see Lamido as a Nigerian leader. The unity of this country cannot be compromised because Nigeria is bigger than any individual. It is time to rise above sentiments and speak the truth because as leaders of various congregations, we know that when there is crisis our people will suffer. Let me use this opportunity to caution you against timidity. Don’t worry about blackmail and name calling. This is the time for men of courage to stand for what they believe in .We cannot continue the way we are going in this country. Dogs are naturally afraid of cats. If cats start running away, we will then have to leave the country for the dogs,” he said. After a while, Bishop Erue said the group cannot discuss everything in the present of journalists, adding that other things will be discussed in a closed door meeting. Lamido on his part thanked the bishops for the visit and encouraged them to visit other stakeholders across the country. |
