Did you know that...
'spoken words are very powerful more than written words'...we all must be careful in our conduct, especially whatever comes out of us as Jesus says.

We expect to hear/see the governor's reaction to this sad news before we conclude. However, it is evil for a human being (a governor, president or prisoner) to say such callous words against his fellow being.

No matter what has happened, it is reasonable to hear both sides of the story...since this is the least we expect from the Governor or any other person for that matter.

please shut up and spare me your hypocritical baggage.

by the time a public official is telling someone, in front of a camera, to go and die, that means there is more behind it than we are seeing.

she should have just packed her stuff quietly and left when she saw nobody was being moved by her pleading.

at that level, they could finish her off right there, does she not value her safety?

did rwandans and the aluu four not plead more than that?

Who says a thing and it will come to pass when the Lord has not commanded it? Oga oshiomole, u are not God, therefore stop mocking God. She is a widow today buh do you knw what will happen in the next minute?

Am really disappointed to hear u asked a poor widow to go and die, if men were God. Ur a bad example.

You can believe anything that make you sleep at night. But I don't believe she was "waiting" for a wheelbarrow. I believe she couldn't pack up her wares before the Governor caught up with her.

Roadside sellers do these things a lot. Now she wants to play the feel-sorry-for-the-widows card. Do you think shop owners too are not widowed?

Can't you see that these roadside trading is a threat to SMEs? Can't you see that it is stealing away jobs and revenue to the Government? Are you that blind or uneducated? How does roadside trading benefit the people or the Government?

Nigerians are really not ready for change. They themselves are afraid to live in a sane society.

To even think that petty trading is a threat to shop owners is ludicrous, in your economic theory you learned in high school and college, that is what you learned right? Corporations that pose great threats to Small Medium Enterprise are dealing with your economy, then it's a petty roadside seller that's your threat... I wonder how many of you think.

Nigerians are ready for change, but a brutal change would be reacted upon. In a civil world of order, it doesn't happen like this. Leaders shouldn't treat people like animals, even when you treat an animal unfairly, the animal will change and likely attack back. Despite the governors intentions, his actions should be frowned upon and possibly be met with stiff repercussions...

Re: Go And Die - Oshiomole Tells A Widow! by kawkab: 9:20pm On Nov 28, 2013
Oshiomole is really missing it. If you listen to the video very well; when the woman said her husband just died and that her husband was a Policeman, The Governor reply is that her husband was among those that kills people on the road. Such comment is uncalled for. he then went ahead to tell the woman that if she is a widow she should go and die.

When primary school teachers went on strike in the middle of the year; when they called off the strike and resumed he insisted that they must work for the same number of days they went on strike and that they would not go for long holidays. However during his days as Labour leader, he is usually the first to insist that the Federal Government must pay workers even for the days they did not go to work.

Now in Benin along the Benin bye pass you have government thugs masquerading as tax/revenue agents harassing inter city travelers and collecting money from them all in the name of radio license, effluent, environmental charges etc even for private cars.

yet he claim to be a progressive.

Nobody is saying the woman was right.. What she did was against the law but under no condition should an elected official tell a Nigerian to "go and die".. Never! Why not allow the law enforcement agents do their work? "Go and die"?! Jezzzz.. I can't even tell my ex whom I hate with so much passion that. Oshiomole fall my hand big time. Imagine Obama telling an american street hawker to "go and die". Na dat day he go carry him hand resign, nobody wan know weda na him kill Osama.

Mr, your train of thought is on the veritable track of confusion. Nobody is condemning him for the lawful exercise of his duty. His approach towards it is most inhuman. His rude, crude and unfeeling action speaks volumes about how little he cares for his subjects as a leader.

You didn't read the 8th paragraph properly. Take a deep breath and re-read the paragraph.

BTW we're talking about roadside trading here. It's killing SMEs and people are crying in their shops, they pay Govt taxes, rentals, utility while these illegal roadside sellers steal the market.

Until you learn to suppress those emotions and do the right thing, you can't even lead a family lest a state or a country cos people would always cry.

pmc01: I know many will disagree with my stand, but I still make bold to state my view to the matter.

While the Governor be scolded for letting his emotions get the better of him, it is really provoking that someone comes up with the cheap excuse of 'being a poor widow' to do what is wrong. It is obvious the woman was fully aware of the wrong she was engaged in, hence the struggle to bail herself out with an emotional excuse of being a struggling widow.

The woman was not willing to accept responsibility for her actions, and that might have really gotten on the nerves of the Governor (he is human too). From comments read, some people have attested to the man's humility and all that, so it is only fair to give him the excuse that he was really provoked. Of course, it is obvious he meant the statement figuratively (even though it seems he went too far than expected of him).

I also wish to state here that we should put a hold on our emotions and judge this matter rationally. It is normal that anyone guilty of a crime would seek to exonerate himself/herself, but does that justify the crime? There are many poor widows all over (assuming she is truly a widow) that do not stay on the wrong side of the law and give room to this kind of embarrassing scenario, so what is the fuss about? Every offender could claim to be a widow, widower, orphan, e.t.c., should they all then be pitied and the society allowed to become chaotic?

Fact is the Governor was harsh, but the woman gave room for that. She was simply trying to blackmail the Governor into setting a bad precedence and the man had to take a firm and resolute decision, having in mind that the people he employed to enforce the law were watching to see whether he will compromise or not. She should just have admitted her fault and plead for mercy, rather than play the emotional card. The truth is everyone in that state will now be on their toes and be more inclined to obey the law strictly, to avoid been a 'scape-goat'. We know how Nigerians have to be 'forced' to do what's right.

It is sad that indiscipline has become a way of life for us here and so many supposedly enlightened ones here have decided to approach this matter with emotional sentiments, rather than an objective outlook.

What is wrong is wrong, widow or no widow!

N.B.: Whoever thinks I am here to defend my 'principal' is on his or her own. I am not responsible for your wrong perception of me. Thank you!

Like Oshimole said...go and die with you long explanation. As a governor you don't talk to your people like that. Period. All this wan is long story.

it's either you are suffering from spiritual blindness or you have lost your ability to think logically. those wares are still sealed - hawkers don't parade sealed boxes, they open their wares so on the balance of probability, i am more compelled to believe the widow.

let's even agree for argument's sake that she was hawking. she had already shown remorse for her actions. she knelt down pleading & wailing, shouldn't that be enough for oshiomole? would oshiomole treat his own wife or mother like that?

This is exactly what Nigerian politics can do to people. He's always wearing khaki, deceiving us that he's one of us. I m not surprised, i got disappointed in him the day he supported the removal of oil subsidy. I m a son of a widow so i know what these women go through in our society. Its so unfair on the part of a man who was voted into power by these widows he now detests.

Look bro, I will give you the benefit of doubt but please dont ask these kind of questions again. It isnt funny at all!

You seem to miss the real evil here. It doesnt even matter if she was lying. If Oshiomole believed she was lying, his answer should have been, "I dont believe you are a widow. You are only trying to find an escape route. The law will take its course". That is a simple answer good enough for such a situation. That is even assuming you want to be really strict! He said clearly, "you are a widow, go and die"! That is not just an insult to the woman. It is an insult to all widows, orphans and every suffering Nigerian who cannot fight or fend for themselves.

Please dont let us fight. Stop asking yeye questions like these! Thank you!

You have written a lot, but you come off as someone who doesnt understand what it means for a Governor to tell the governed, "Go and Die". In saner climes, Oshiomole would have been impeached by now. The law is meant for the people and not the other way round. In jurisprudence, Justice is tempered with mercy.

"Go and Die!" Is the worst statement any Governor can say to the Governed, Oshiomole deserves impeachment for such careless and uncouth statement.

I absolutely agree that he was being too harsh and deserves a fair share of the criticisms. But before condemning him to impeachment or something like it, he should be given the chance to make a statement on the matter. If he arrogantly stands by his earlier use of words, then we 'crucify him'; if otherwise, we spare him the benefit of having acted before reasoning.
