coogar:

it's either you are suffering from spiritual blindness or you have lost your ability to think logically. those wares are still sealed - hawkers don't parade sealed boxes, they open their wares so on the balance of probability, i am more compelled to believe the widow.

let's even agree for argument's sake that she was hawking. she had already shown remorse for her actions. she knelt down pleading & wailing, shouldn't that be enough for oshiomole? would oshiomole treat his own wife or mother like that?

Until you give up those emotions, it'll be hard for you to push forward in life. I'm a Medical Doctor and I can assure you that I've seen more emotions from patients in ICU but that doesn't mean that the surgery wouldn't be performed.

Think about the greater good. If everyone starts crying and begging like this woman, what do you think would be of our society?

No iota of respect for that guy. What a cold hearted guy, and he was the same guy who stood as a mouthpiece for laymen. No problem cos God sees everything.

We are still missing the point.

The woman was not admitting or even apologizing for being wrong... She was only manifesting the mentality of "it is normal".

Woman: I am a widow, my action is justified... you should look the other way!

Governor: Don't give me that crap woman! I have heard it before... You are wrong, admit it!

Woman: You know we are in Nigeria nah, just pretend you didn't notice.

Governor: Don't tell me nonsense... Infact, get off my sight!

N.B.: Does that remind you of a certain MOG slapping the poor girl for provoking him? If I remember well, Man didn't even give a damn and people went to sleep...Innit?

For wetin nah?:
This is what happens when over zealous, over hyped, arrogant, desperate politicians handle elected positions. The same Osho baba who told Edo people what they wanted to hear and acted like a saint before he became Governor cry Eziokwu!! We've not seen anything yet..let's wait for the likes of Tinubu, Rochas, Ameachi and Buhari, the 'I will fight corruption' champions. They know what Nigerians want to hear..they will twist, rewind and manipulate some people to get there. GEJ with all his Cluelessness (according to the APC sect) will NEVER be this inhuman, WETIN!!. Osho baba doesn't have 1 bone of humility in him..people like him only perform after much rehearsals, in the presence of gullible audience. I'm sure he's not even aware some1 recorded this. Who said CHARACTER isn't important?!
.

True talk. I am waiting for APC to claim power in 2015 with all these their hypocritical style of governance we will beg for PDP to come back... and then Nigeria is really finished

Zither: Does that justify his telling her to 'Go and die'? Do you even understand the negative impact of his careless statement? Is there any justification for it? Forgivable - yes but @ the same time highly condemnable and disapproving especially coming from a State leader.

The woman has a right to press charges, I don't know she should get a lawyer and know her options.

We live in a civilised society and I still think that the Governor's choice of words is very wrong.

But hawking, nah nothing kills an economy more than when people steal jobs instead of creating one.

We need to expand our middle class. That's the catalyst for a growing economy. Enough of these hawking already, we've been hawking since 1960 or before.

You must have been one of the people that went to sleep when poor people's rights are trampled upon.

She may have been wrong. But she has a right to her dignity and it was totally classless for our "so called leader" to act in that manner.

Why?Man's inhumanity to man.

Who knows if she took a loan, contribution, how hard she toiled to gather the money she used in purchasing those things?

For the blind men claiming she's hawking, who hawks satchet tomatoes, cheese balls, canoe soap, bobo drink all in sealed cartoons in Nigeria

Not one person in the governors entourage could help, that dude was kicking the ctn of cheese balls with his legs.

God,where are you ? cry

Most Nairalanders are so daft, I have been all over this thread informing them that the woman was waiting for a wheelbarrow or taxi to take her goods home, but they foolishly refuse to read. That woman is not a street trader for Christ sake. I will try and use my contacts in Benin to see if I can have her contacts, and by God grace create a thread for her here.
May God Help Her.

cheesy cheesy Your research and conclusion is very funny to be honest.

I'm not a business student but I took some optional courses in Business Management in my UG. Let's address your comment by bits.

You are very wrong when you said buying unregulated goods helps Nigerians with viable options. It doesn't, it helps kill the economy.

Hawkers don't pay taxes, they don't rent shops, they don't employ workers, they don't even get to pay utility or taxes. So how does this help Nigerians? You should stop being cheap and learn to support the system.

No! Roadside sellers are not interested in average returns, as a matter of fact they get maximum profit.

Imagine an SME owner buys an orange for N10 and sells at N30. He shares his profit with workers, Govt, shop owner, utility. His net profit might amount to N5 but everyone is happy.

However, a hawker buys the same orange for N10 and sells it for N20, he doesn't pay any worker, tax or utility. His net profit is N10 but he has only made himself happy. Who's making maximum profit here? Who's stealing jobs instead of creating one?

* They don't grow their business so they don't employ workers. We need SMEs to employ our workforce.

* They don't own a shop, they don't pay rents or utility. This is very bad for Government. Government need more shop owners, more shop owners means more employment and more revenues.

* They don't pay taxes which is uncivilised and a daylight robbery of any economy. By law they would be arrested and imprisoned.

* They make the environment dirty. Dirty environment means more work for the Govt. That is they don't give to the Government yet they steal from tax payers.

Roadside hawkers don't create jobs rather they steal jobs. You need to look deeply to understand.

There are many more but I guess I'll leave that to the economic and business professionals.

Nigerians should stop thinking "ME" and start thinking "US"

Your economic analysis is obviously out of place and irrelevant to the central topic here...what has economic analysis got to do with the callous disposition of a Governnor towards the governed as reflected in his words that she should go an die?

the leaders are representative of the people. If he said that, its obviously because he was told to say it, same way aluu 4 were murdered in front of the camera.

besides, havent we been shown pictures of this person in various compromising positions which we were later told were photoshopped.

so, i do not believe everything that comes out of the media, and besides, in some areas, you proceed with caution. Nuff said.

when the media tells us certain representatives of a particular show went to see the governor, we were not told why they are granted unlimited access to what ordinary nigerians are not even permitted to sniff [how many ordinary nigerians can go near a govt house without being locked up?], then clearly there's more to the picture.

Tpia,
What has PHOTOSHOP got to do with all these things?
.
.
.
So, the Governor was told to say, "you are a widow, go and die"
.
.
.
Or maybe the press doctored the Governors speech. So we should be careful in believing that what the Governor said may not actually be his voice.......

Goodnight Nigeria.

Look bro, I will give you the benefit of doubt but please dont ask these kind of questions again. It isnt funny at all!

You seem to miss the real evil here. It doesnt even matter if she was lying. If Oshiomole believed she was lying, his answer should have been, "I dont believe you are a widow. You are only trying to find an escape route. The law will take its course". That is a simple answer good enough for such a situation. That is even assuming you want to be really strict! He said clearly, "you are a widow, go and die"! That is not just an insult to the woman. It is an insult to all widows, orphans and every suffering Nigerian who cannot fight or fend for themselves.

Please dont let us fight. Stop asking yeye questions like these! Thank you!

No one is exonerating Oshiomole for saying "Go and die". He was wrong for that, end of story. But Nigeria is a banana republic not just because Nigerians do not obey the law but because they get away with it. The culture of impunity is a major reason why the most populous Black Country in the world remains a laughing stock. People should obey the law, simple and short and Oshiomole should be more sensitive with his words.

Exactly why you aren't a business student so PLEASE stick to what you know. If you want to know how an economic cycle works, just ask rather than exposing your shallow thought on NL. To allude that Petty trader DO NOT create jobs is simply silly,

1.What is trading if it's not a job?

2. When a petty trader goes to the big local producer to buy, isn't that adding into the system.

3. They don't pay taxes but the wholesalers they buy from pay the taxes, heck they are taxed at the point of purchase

4. They contribute to the cycle of demand and supply, when their demand increases, they gradually expand and hopefully get a store.

5. Even corps contribute to a dirty environment, so what they hell is your point? Heck Shell and Total, and others are contributing to a dirty oil spills in the SS Region, so what's your point.

Please stick to what you know.

Exhale and shakes head.. I thought you know about economics but you obviously don't. So because First bank pays tax to the Government, it's employees don't have to pay their taxes.

I don't know where you got your business or economic degree from but I'll suggest you go back and demand a refund.

Taxes are paid individually, you pay taxes because you did not create the environment you're reaping from.

If hawkers buys from wholesaler and the wholesalers pay their taxes, it doesn't cover the hawkers.

Are you saying that if I buy goods from Unilever and Unilever pay their taxes, I should pay mine as a retailer?

Bro it's a shame that a medicine student is teaching you economics in your field. Take my advice bro, your school owe you change.

I haven't cried in a long time, I had tears in my eyes this morning. I was pained seeing that lady. If anyone can find me the crying widow, I have a $500 for her to launch her business again.

I beg to disagree .
Agreed ,
The governor choice of words is in bad taste but,

He is the CEO of the state.
A good administrator cannot afford to be selective in the Application of justice.
Poverty and illiteracy is not an excuse ,
Neither is wealth ,power and status.
All over Nigeria, laws are broken everyday and the perpetuators are never apprehended.
From breaking an easy to understand law like this one,to
a thieving president and his wife.
The moment you excuse these small crimes ,
You have automatically given the big criminal a pass.
In as much as you pity her poverty,
The state needs to make examples once in a while.
The message is crystal clear.
OBEY THE LAW OR YOU WILL GET SMASHED.
IF I CAN BE RUTHLESS WITH THIS WOMAN,I CAN BE RUTHLESS WITH ANYONE
The fact is that the oil derangement syndrome has seriously bastardized the psyche of that country ,
That people would rather eke a miserable living by the roadside, ride okada rather than live a life of dignity on the farm.
