Sometimes I wonder if you were truly an African. Your doggedness, your selflessness, your honesty, your fearlessness, your uprightness, your spirit, I am tempted to say are all unAfrican. Or why is it that only you could demonstrate all of these in a continent that wallows in utter doldrums and despair in spite natural and human resources that have been plundered by the warlord-like leaders that revel in riding roughshod on the rest of us.
I am sadder because in looking at the horizon nobody comes close that can give Africa and Africans the hope and dignity that we most needed at this time. But I have faith that the Providence will one day grant us a son that Africans will look up to and be proud of a la Mandela.

It is not his freedom fight that stands out to me, it is the fact that he relinquished power(even though he had strong reasons to hold on to it) when due instead of holding on to it like his birthright like many of our block headed politicians are doing
