it's a shame we get speed like that from a mobile " broadband provider". nothing to cheer up about. i was in a hotel for 3 days in ikeja, the wifi remained constant at a download rate of 44kB/s. not that the speed is so good but i just liked the consistency. something starcomms can never do.

u r able to monitor d amt of data u've used, dis comes very handy wen using stufs like mtn3G
also able to allocate bandwith to particular apps n etc

dis kind of speeds only occur in the early ams (2-6)
its very rare to see this sort of speed by 12 midnight or even
it appears dat a considerable ammount of people are willing to stay up dis late (12-1)

based on my current experience, i am going to tell anyone who will listen. . .insist on an evdo modem!

the starcomms genie is CRAP ! this easter break, i have been switching it with my own ie 9am to 9pm, 9pm to 9am. the fking modem keeps going off. imagine starting a download, going to do something else. . .coming back and the bloody thing has switched off. switching on is wahala, and then iit starts complaining of low battery . if i'd gotten madam an evdo modem. . .i'd have prolly finished m y dl yesterday angry angry angry

stupid fking piece of shit! you can't leave the bloody thing for 30mins without its going off. if i'd bought one, i'd be waking up every hour to ensure my downloads are still up angry angry angry

@oyb
But Genie is an EVDO USB modem.
I also noticed it has compartibility problems on Windows Vista and that's why it keeps going off sometimes. I wonder why Starcomms did not stick with their Novatel wireless.

yes it's a USB modem, but it's also a mobile phone which means that unlike your regular usb modem
it has its own power source - battery in fact it's just like using your mobile phone to browse;
nothing drains your phone battery faster except (maybe) voice calls (i virtually killed the battery of my nokia mobile phone that way)
and most starcomms phones (at least the mobile ones) are not known for long battery lives

And see me about to complian about my Novatel,i better keep quite.I have always hated externally powered USB devices.Can anyone remember those big blue boxes they issued when they first commenced their EvDO service? I just pray they get things right before they loose all their customers.

Lynx, how far? Happy Easter. smiley
You ought to know that the hourly packages are not meant for people that spend very long hours on the net.
I hope the starcomms guys or fellas or whatever they call themselves come up with another good EVDO USB modem.
Maybe they should get the Huawei type used by Zain, Visafone and MTN.
