Avoid modems from Chinese companies if you have a choice. Always known the Genie was no good for anything.

If you can wait on MTN, the better. Those others, I have tried them all and MTN still comes out tops. MTN's problem is probably temporary. I heard they are doing an upgrade.

how long will they do upgrade? a fellow sufferer called their customer care and asked about compensation for their downtime and the guys had no mercy.

The Starcomms Genie device does not work very well with systems running on Windows Vista. Its better to get a different USB modem device or a PCMCIA or Express data card.

But if you are really in a hurry to bail out on MTN, look out for Zain's 3G or Edge Coverage in your area. Zain's 3G is next to MTN in terms of speed. Starcomms is only ideal if you are a night user.

Plz make the correction on the date "Nov. 2009". sad And the N16000 is the 24-hrs subscription fee not the modem.

starcomms evdo service has been very terrible nowadays. i switched from visafone because they were connected to nitel sat3 as bakbone n anytime nitel had a problem visafone too has

i was using starcomms n enjoying it cos nitel sat3 seems not to be affecting them so i tot until recently.

i called customer care n i was told that they were mandated to hook up to nitel too. so dats why we have been experiencing such inconsistency. i dnt knw how authentic this info is. but dat makes starcomms no longer different from all the others like visafone, ipnx, etc dat are hooked up to nitel.

how on earth will regulatory bodies force them to use the national bakbone, i realy dont want to believe that, mayb they are just trying to cut cost.

i wonder wen we go get cheap and affordable broadband for this naija dats consistent

Men!! I dunno am alredy tired; maybe i shud jst get a gen & go bk 2 using DOPC

u're not happy we can all seat at home and see internet. u've forgotten so soon how we all used to go and buy time in cafes, looking at those wicked clocks ticking away, sometimes we had to save some minutes to use the next day. . . other times we would try some used tickets to see if the good Samaritan who bought the ticket left anything in it. . . yet at other times we'll rub shoulders with the cafe attendant so we can be friends and get some free time from him. . . or we try to get the admin password of the cafe (oh lordy at tht time most cafes in my area used the default admin/admin login sequence). 9ja is progressing joor! tongue

The Nigerian ISPs should improve on their services in terms of browsing speed consistency.

yes o!

the fuckers running the cybercafe close to my crib practically banned me the downloader who kept hogging their bandwidth. and towards the end, their connection was so slow. . .
big downloads (anything over 30mb) were completely out of it. another cafe . . . 30 mins for a 2mb download . . . angry. with the connection consisitently breaking. . .

i can knock starcomms, but i am now free of the tyranny of cybercafes, it assholes in my company who lock download ips, and friends etal who i have to cajole to help me download big files.

thanks starcomms for windows 7. . . autocad mep 2010,autocad 2010 and a whole lot of other big dls. your genie still sucks big time ! and we would all appreciate more bandwidth  cheesy
