Following the distrainment of eight commercial banks in Owerri, the Imo state capital, over their alleged failure to pay to Imo state, Withholding Tax on interests paid to customers, resident of Owerri have been thrown into tough times by also being ‘distrained’ from accessing fund in their banks.
The situation got worse following an emergency meeting of the Bankers Committee convened yesterday shortly after the eight banks were sealed off. Having exhausted efforts at explaining that they were not in default of any payment to the state government, the bankers may have also resolved to adopt a belligerent stance until the state government is willing to see reason...CONTINUE: http:///nmr9w3w
