When Jesus spoke to the Samaritan woman at the well in John 4, he revealed something very important, something we often miss in this passage.

In verses 17-18, Jesus said to the woman, "You have correctly said, 'I have no husband'; for you have had five husbands, and the one whom you now have is not your husband; this you have said truly."

The woman had been hiding the fact that the man she was living with was not her husband. According to the New Bible Commentary notes on this passage of the Scripture, Common Law Marriage which bases marriage on sex has no religious support in the Jewish faith.

so, one Living with a person in sexual union did not constitute a "husband and wife" relationship.

Jesus made that plain here.

Listen bro, like I have said all through this thread, your intention/faith matters in all you do. The samaritan woman definitely wouldn't want to have that man as an husband and so the man is not her husband, perhaps they just wanted to play around without the need to be together forever as one.

So I don't know your point here but you haven't proved anything

Scriptural backings...

What of those part of the world that we have nothing like a formal wedding?
Malachi 2:14, use the CEV Bible.. Contemporary english versiön to get it better.

When performing the marriage ceremony / wedding, vows or promises are made. Marriage is centered around those vows of which God is aware!

You think everyone make vows you must be joking bro, how many times will I tell you some people didn't have this formal religious weddings we have today at their time.

Malachi 2:14 doesn't prove that the ceremony is when God considers a couple married.

there has to be some form of sexual activity going on between the samaritan woman and the man whom she was living it. Due to that she had the idea that the man was her husband.

But when Jesus visited her and askd a question about her husband, she told the truth about her self without knowing that she did, she thought she was lieing. The man she has been living with and prolly having sexual intercouse was not her husband.

Marriage is not based on sex but a ceremony whereby vows are made with God and Man as witnesses.

Now i can see you dont understand the bible, that verse wasnt talking about husband and wifegrin but a different thing entirely. Idols and not husband and wife.

"Yet ye say, Wherefore? Because the LORD hath been witness between thee and the wife of thy youth, against whom thou hast dealt treacherously: yet is she thy companion, and the wife of thy covenant." (Malachi 2:14)..... Let me prove it, go and read the full chapter my friend, stop embarassing yourself.

"Judah hath dealt treacherously, and an abomination is committed in Israel and in Jerusalem; for Judah hath profaned the holiness of the LORD which he loved, and hath married the daughter of a strange god." (Malachi 2:11). That was what that verse was talking about, not husband and wife. Nothing like husband and wife in that verse. U get the point.

King James Bible
And I say unto you, Whosoever shall put away his wife, except it be for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery: and whoso marrieth her which is put away doth commit adultery.
Matthew 19:9

How can a WIFE commit fornication if fornication means pre-marital se.x between two people who wants to marry themselves? The ^ above verse from the Lord says, a MARRIED WOMAN (WIFE) can commit fornication, NOT ONLY AN UNMARRIED person. Fornication is like the word "virgin" in scripture that means more than one thing. A virgin also mean UNMARRIED woman\man, not only a woman who have not had se.x with a man.

King James Bible
There is difference also between a wife and a virgin. The unmarried woman (VIRGIN) careth for the things of the Lord, that she may be holy both in body and in spirit: but she that is married (WIFE) careth for the things of the world, how she may please her husband.

I agree with you bro, not everyone had the formal religious wedding ceremonies which we have today.

Whatever method they had should be centered around a public demonstration of the couples commitment to a covenant relationship which is the very basis of our formal religious weddings of today.

Mal 2:14, pls read properly.. There is some form of correlation with what we are discusing today.

Malachi 2 vs 14.. CEV

And why isn't God pleased? It's because he knows that each of you men has been unfaithful to the wife yo married when you were young. You promised that she would be your partner, but now you have broken that promise.

yes, the wife there is God, the covenant God made with Israel, now you have broken the covenant by worshiping other gods. Nothing like husband and wife. And let me add, just a precept to explain that verse.

Jeremiah 3:20 "Surely, as a woman treacherously departs from her lover, So you have dealt treacherously with Me, O house of Israel," declares the LORD.

So now you see, the covenant was between God and Israel and not husband and wife. Get ur points right jare.
