byvan: Children in Nigeria definitely need a bath more than once a day,one in the morning, one after school. Kids smell differently after mingling with others in school, i hate that smell lingering all over my house when they are back from school,so they must hit the shower a second time.Byvan,if u r in jos during the cold weather, u may not want to bath them for 2days at a stretch! Only wipe with towel and lukewarm water. |

My friend from jos(now in lagos)called that she is finding it difficult to bath twice daily cos they r not used to it. As for the snow, I don't know my sis. Its only obudu in calabar I know of. When u climb the mountain near the cattle ranch, u can actually c snow at the othe side. The sight is breathtaking. Would hv loved to post a picture but for privacy sake. |

Hello All, Abeg, lets not derail the tread with argument. If you live in cold regions, then you will understand why pple bath themselves once a day or even once in two days. I scrub my son in the evening while hubby just uses liquid wash in the morning just to freshen him up. |

mogbomoya: Hello All, I just tire for women and unnecessary bickering.......Say your own & move on! No need to start questioning another person's choices especially when you are even ignorant. People living in very cold temperate regions CANNOT afford to bathe their kids twice a day...it's not safe! Haba! Google is your friend....use it! At times people just want to jump on the band wagon and and try belittle others. Please let's not derail this thread.....am learning and enjoying these tips. |

/ Usually househelps are from the wife's side of the family (niece, cousin, etc.) Most often than not, it is a mutual relationship...the househelp runs errands, etc. while the family trains her in school. That's why they say that if you marry a woman, her family will give you jara. I guess time has changed. \ |

Practice point 20. and then get a maid or hire a cleaning company to come in periodically. We have 24 hrs a day, if you use 3hrs doing things you can pay someone 7$ an hour to do for you and your hourly rate is 100$, Over a year, you are loosing 70,000$ or more monetarily if Housework is only 3 Hrs daily. Be wise. For me, no wife would Bring that near me Thank you. I'm already working 5am in the Morning when I wake up, I sleep 1 - 2 am everyday and Im busy in between. Why cant me and my wife rest and we hire professionals to do their job? |

OP, God bless you for this post. Ever since my dad's office enemies nearly had our entire family poisoned through our house-help when I was a kid, I have had a complete aversion to them for like forever. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yV_5bNFbX0g If this video does not shock you, then you have not imagined the serious damage that these househelps can do. |

nice write up and topic @OP hey people, you have all spoken well.... I wish men would help their wives more often with the chores, especially when they have the time..cos it goes a long way with bonding and assisting the woman(especially if she doesn't like the chores, it helps as a way of encouraging her). God help us all... btw, where are all the young men and women here? this is a very sensitive topic that we all can learn from.. |

baby.me:well said! The problem a lot of ladies have lack of tolerance!!! Most don't know how to live with anybody who they feel is lower than them. The key to having good helps is prayer and a kind heart! Treat your help right and he or she will definitely reciprocate! And the issue of hubby and maid liaison? pulees!!!! If such happens to me its the hubby am sending packing not the help. My help goes to school like yours everybody leaves the house almost the same time and when she returns from school am already home, she takes lunch and proceed to do whatever needs to be done in the house. Am referring to her as a maid/help here for the purpose of this thread but in reality she's like my adopted child! I send money to her folks monthly too. |

If it is ok with your spouse, eat out as often as you can. Saves you the inconvenience of cooking/cleaning/washing once in a while. Might not be as cost effective as home food but again, you both work and something must give. 1 Like |

SupermodelVicky: I don't have a househelp and I don't look older than my age .I also know those diseases you listed are not as a result of not having a househelp hun. .They are more lifestyle, genetic diseases related to diet, hobbies etc. Can we please get tips abeg now? Can we please stop the housegirl/no housegirl crusade. Ok my own tip, Try to do grocery shopping online and in bulk for none perishable stuff.Saves you the time and hassle of always having to go to the market.I know this is practical even in Naija cos there are websites advertising stuff even in naija. The N10 N20 difference and here £4 delivery charge is worth the hassle of going shopping.Maybe cos me I dont like shopping sha 1 Like |

@OP very interesting and educative thread. However, i think you should take a second look at your circumstances. Having three straight bad helps could be a reflection of you. I believe you should draw closer to God. Having kids at after school and the likes doesn't even guarantee their safety. Put God first and everything will fall in place. You might not have a house help that is a minor that lives with you. You could make do with professional helps just to assist. Also please do not leave home work with those after sch carers. Home work should be with you. Even if you dont have the time everyday, you can make do with weekends, holidays etc. Having the children grow up more in the house than in carers' really helps in their development and appreciation of their environment. You have done well, anyway. I have a help who has been with us for over 5 years. Infact she is like our own sister. In order for her to also develop herself, we had to employ a professional who works during the day. We are also very very involved in their development. They excel in their academics, extra curricular and are always aware of whats going on around them. @OP, also involve family members in your home, so the children can be used to seeing other people aside you and your hubby. That way they can easily know who is a family and who are strangers. May God help us all. 2 Likes |

armyofone: Crock is good for chili, meat sauce things, hefty meaty pot roast and other western food. In nig setting i wonder if it will be useful in cooking ogbono, egusi, bitter leaf soup etc that naijaians like. Unless one is talking abt using it to cook your meat/ponmo/oxtail/bokoto etc (one stage in nig cooking) while at work. I recently got two fancy crocks as a gift and yet to open them. I like my fav resturant pot roast and chili anyway. It is o. I have one that I bought from Lakeland and I've cooked everything from asaro to chilli & pasta sauce in it. In fact, I boiled my panla overnight last saturday in the darn thing and boy was I pleased with the result. It will even keep the food warm for as long as possible sef. @ Dami, it is the best piece of kitchen equipment I ever bought. http://www.lakeland.co.uk/14752/Family-Crock-Pot |

stagger: OP, Wow! That video is shocking......It is a decision we all have to live with as parents,to have a maid or not? be sure to weigh the consequences in a good scale..I have two daughters and have put a stop to baby making, people question my decision each day asking me why after all you have money, I want to be a Dad to my kids and not just a Father figure. My first Daughter is 6 and we have never had a help. Team work is the key and good planning as a lot of posters haver said above me. Raising children is a big responsibility, ensure you give birth to what you can adequately cater for not just materially but physically and emotionally. 1 Like |
