A parasite is an animal that can't survive on its own and has to leave its erosion ravaged habitat to greener pastures in an economically viable region There are several species of parasites which follow these migration patterns every January. Most parasites are pests and they criminally invade thier hosts region as evident in the flat headed rodents 1 Like |

When you have reported cases of fake commissioners on a state's payroll or tens of thousands of ghost workers, I think the problem goes beyond the amount of revenue being generated. The state's Commissioner for Information, Abraham Yiljap, said that among the corrupt practices found in the system was the discovery of a fictitious commissioner in the payroll of the state. "We have found out that states with about 45,000 workers pay about N800 million as monthly salary. The biometric system puts Plateau workers at 17,000 workers yet our wage bill is N1.7 billion." Remove Abia, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Cross River, Delta, Edo, Imo, Ondo and Rivers from that list of 35 as the money the FG redistributes comes solely from these states. |

Ikengawo: We blame the federal government for so much without realizing the federal government already does EVERYtHING for us while state governors take pictures and swap parties like clowns. The Federal government literally feeds the states, if that isn't enough for the state governments to stop blaming the feeds and face their work, idk what is. Even the ones we say are performing are jokes compared to their allocation with grows every year. If Fashola bad mouths the federal government, as a PDP member I'll listen, everyone else should shut up and face their work. Point of correction. Central government, not a federal government which is alienated from the people it supposedly governs. If you want to a good example of a federal government, consider Sweden, although their system is a federal parliamentary system: that is a federal system where citizens can directly influence policies or bills by referendums. You can imagine a National Assembly member stating they need to pass a law before a citizen's referendum can have effect. SMH. It appears the lectures some of them took in passed through their skulls. |

This is eye-opening. Goes to show that the federal govt does more than we give it credit for. Ikengawo made a good point. Most nigerians are not even involved in their local govts!! talkless of state govt. So how then do you expect them to be involved in federal govt? we like to blame govt for everything but we do nothing to take power into our hands because we want none of the responsibilities. With power comes responsibility otherwise we just become a nation of parasites. asking for things without giving anything in return. Even JFK said "ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country" this is the motto for successful nations. Sweden included. |

luvable sam: Generally our leaders are clueless as to How to make money or even rule....wonder what would av happened if states had no FG to fall back on n oil was non-existent.. Go and check, a lot of them have never managed N500k in a year as investment in a business and used the profit to pay rent feeding and school fees. You cannot give what you don't have. |

eaglechild: I don't get all the noise about IGR. I think you people just spew this rubbish to console yourselves because this rubbish is false.... Niger, with 33.8 per cent has the lowest poverty rate in the country followed by Osun with 37.9 per cent and Ondo, 45.7 per cent. Others with less than 50 per cent poverty rate were Bayelsa State, 47 per cent and Lagos State, 48.6 per cent. The record showed that poverty was least prevalent in the South-West, with an average of 49.8 per cent, followed by South-South, 55.5 per cent and South-East, 59.5 per cent. http://www.informationng.com/2013/01/sokoto-tops-states-with-highest-poverty-rate-as-niger-records-lowest-rate.html 1 Like |

agbameta:Outdated Yoruba newspaper quoting stale statistics Their source is old,i read it. The proportion of people living in poverty in the South East region rose from 13 percent in 1980 to 53 percent in 1996, before falling back to 27 percent in 2004. In the South West, the poverty rate was 43 percent in 2004, up from 13.4 percent in 1980. The South East’s infant and child mortality rates, at 66 and 103, respectively, are the lowest of Nigeria’s six regions. 9 Not surprisingly, the region also exhibits the highest immunization coverage among children ages 12 to 23 months (45 percent fully vaccinated), the lowest percentage of children under age five who are stunted (20 percent), and, among women giving birth, the highest percentage who receive antenatal care from a health professional (96 percent), two or more doses of tetanus toxoid (77 percent), and assistance by a health professional during the birth (88 percent). SOURCE Nigeria: The Next Generation – Literature Review 1 May 2009 This literature review was undertaken as a part of the Nigeria: The Next Generat ion project, funded by the British Council Nigeria. The review was prepared by Akochi Agunwamba, David Bloom, Abby Friedman, Marija Ozolins, Larry Rosenberg, David Steven, and Mark Weston Poverty rate is 43% in SW and 27% in SE 2 Likes |
