any income be it salary or business fueled, is subject to whatever factors apply at any given point in time.

as such, NOBODY is exempt from what the op is describing.

armed robbers and yahoo yahoo/419ers also go broke, my point is money is not an endless supply even if you print it yourself.

even teachers and civil servants have unpaid salaries going on three to six months or more, companies go broke, business doesnt always move, so lets try to post with sense every now and then, this level of illiteracy and ignorance is starting to seem normal with nigerians, didnt use to be so.

What's your point then?

Could you please enlighten me a little.
Thanks.

Rober Kiyosaki says we should always spend on assets - Rich Dad Poor Dad

what are assets? things that bring money into your account

the more you spend on assets (businesses, etc) the less you depend on your salary

Simple rule on every income you get.
1. Invest
2. Save
3. Consume
In that order. Unfortunately most people rather than 'do the needful' as advised and shown above do it the other way round.
Start today to source other income flows. Take time out to think, plan and set goals. Write them all down.

Good one OP!
I work in an oil and gas company and my pay per month is in seven digits. To save is very difficult as I have many expenses to meet.
Recently I invested in a business that fetches me between 400k to 500k per month yet to save is still difficult.
I guess I'm not able to save because I keep acquiring asset and I still want to increase my asset value.
If my job ends today, God forbid, I have things to fall back on. I may not have a fat savings, but by God's grace my asset is a treasure.
I intend to do more investments going forward but a good business idea is all that I need.
But in all of this, I still can't imagine living my current lifestyle without a salary. It was the salary that dictated, to a large extent, the lifestyle.

Very correct. Nothing stays the same. We only hope for the best outcome in whatever we do, but after all said, its 50-50. Salary or business income, its neither here nor there jare. God help us all.

Very true op. This advice applies mostly to the young ones around who still put all their eggs in one basket called job security
Re: Imagine Living Your Current Lifestyle Without A Salary by nupera: 1:12pm On Dec 30, 2013
To save takes discipline. My cut off to savings arena is non negotiable. The only situation I'll touch is if the doctor told me I'm gonna die if i don't maybe do a procedure and that's the only place money will come from. I will say no to family friends and relatives if that's my last hope of meeting a need.
I came to this hard stance when i realised that if i crashed financially today I'm first of all on my own so i better have back up. I have a very good paying job, i own part of a successful company, Im also going through the motions of getting a start up fully owned by me to sustain itself and widen the margins. All is to create a good balance and diversity in savings, investment and consumption ratios.
Every acquisition for status comes last. The day a colleague mistakenly saw the balance in my savings portfolio he didn't show up for work next day. He confessed he cried at home all day determined to know how i did it. Today he is diligently putting away 40% of whatever income he makes. His blood pressure has also come in check.
Mind you I'm no bribe taking, kickback collecting dude. Just your guy next door.

My current lifestyle has been without salary for a year and half, God has been my sustainer through thick and thin. I am hoping and looking forward to a life with salary in 2014. So help me God. Amen.

Your best bet when the going is good, is for you to build your own house - BUILD not buy.

Your rent is usually the biggest outflow and once you live in your own house, its easier to adjust your lifestyle accordingly when disaster strikes. Whatever your fake lifestyle, when alarm blow, you and your family will learn to stay at home and eat garri instead of sausages in the quiet privacy of your home with your asiri intact grin. Holing up in your own home will also let you re-adjust your mind to focusing on the gradual next steps you'll need to recover.

The worst thing that you can face in a retrenchment situation is the inability to renew your rent. Too many embarrassing options...

Buy that plot and start while the going is good. There are countless stories of people who bought 'one plot somewhere' b'cos the opportunity came along while they were working, they built small-by-small, and they eventually moved into such homes as their base.

Shine your eyes and see beyond the smoke and glitter of keeping up a fake lifestyle.
