Even if all the Northerners were Muslims and they all smoke weed, that wont still justify anything. There is a clear difference between Islam and Muslim. What is Islam says is one and what the Muslims do is another. Nobody is perfect everybody has one shortcoming or the other but in Islam actions of Muslims is not a justification of the validity of their actions in and of itself. Only the Prophet's action and the actions of majority of his companions can be evidence in and of itself. |

Queenisha: QI pls take it easy, there is no need to be sarcastic. The bottom line from what codebase is saying is that, what ISLAM dictates is different from Muslims are doing. Period. And if you want to compare Christians in that way then it is also true, what the BIBLE dictates is not what Christians are doing. From all thing said here my understanding is that a Muslim can work in a Brewery if his convictions allow him. |

Re: Can A Muslim Work In A Brewery Or Tobacco Factory by fotodaddy: 7:04am On Aug 22, 2008 |
DeepZone: Deepzone, to answer your question; going through all, I can see that tobaco is permissible but not beneficial while alcohol is impermissible completely (except under certain circumstance eg medicine etc) I hope i didnt say anything out of place?? |
Re: Can A Muslim Work In A Brewery Or Tobacco Factory by codebase: 7:30am On Aug 22, 2008 |
Want to know why Muslim security guards are the highest vendors of cigarette around! The answer is that the average Muslim is not bothered about the intricate details of his or her religion, he only knows about salah and ramadan then hajj. He does not know about Zakat(which is also a pillar), he even mistakes zakat for sadaaqah. So you can really blame them, if they sell cigarette; of course the dont know any better. As for the ruling on cigarette, we all know there was no cigarette during the time of the prophet unlike alcohol that has always existed, but in islamic jurisprudence there are principle which scholars will use to determine the legality of any issue. Because there are no clear cut evidence in the Quraan and hadith on cigarette most of what scholars say will be based on circumstantial evidence and because it is circumstantial evidence different scholars will understand it in different ways and therefore arrive at different conclusions. But the least I have heard scholars say about cigarette is that it is makruh (disliked) some say its Haram (prohibited). But the majority of the scholars are of the opinion that it is makruh (disliked) which means it is better avoided, discouraged, disapproved off etc. So no good Muslim will want to be caught doing it sha i.e is the koko of all my grammar thanks |

Assalamu alaikum to my Muslim brothers and sisters, and hello to Deepzone,Queenisha and co, There is no controversy on the prohibition of alcohol. It is explicitly stated in the Qur'an. Arabs used to be heavy consumers of alcohol before Allah revealed to the Prophet(SAW) the verse that prohibits it. So submissive were the Muslims of then that immediately the prophet told them that alcohol had been prohibited, they instantly started pouring away their alcohol 'stock' and the whole of Mecca was wet with alcohol, as if alcohol rain fell. To drink alcohol is a grave sin in Islam. The only exception, I read from scholars, is when that is the only medicine available to cure an illness. Working in a brewery that produces alcohol(irrespective of whether they produce non-alcoholics too) is haraam, according to knowledgeable scholars. And their reasons are convincing enough: 1, By working there, you are contributing to the production of what Allah forbids i.e aiding evil 2, The money you earn from there is unclean, because it is gotten from the sale of forbidden things 3, The Prophet (SAW) said when we see evil we should correct it with our hand, if not capable of doing that, we should correct it with our mouth(i.e talk against it), and if not capable of doing that too, we should correct it with our mind(i.e feel sad that evil is being perpetrated and hate it), and that is the weakest of faith. If a Muslim truly hates (and he should) that some people are disobeying Allah(drinking alcohol), the least he should do is resent it, and I don't know how he can do that if he himself contributes to it. Please Muslims let's stay away from aiding evil. You cannot die because you don't have job. Better remain unemployed than incur Allah's wrath. What you will eat from cradle till death has been destined. This world is too short. The Hereafter matters most. As regards tobacco, It's quite controversial, but almost all knowledgeable scholars are unanimous that it's also haraam. Personally, I go with the argument that it's haraam, given the fact it's impairs one's health, and the principle is that anything that impairs your health is haraam for you. Given that, helping in manufacturing it is also haraam. As regards Maiguards, Hausa, Arabs and other Muslims taking tobacco or weed or whatever you call it, this argument is most laughable. If a Muslim lies, does that mean Islam sanctions lying? |

Re: Can A Muslim Work In A Brewery Or Tobacco Factory by olabowale(m): 12:23pm On Aug 23, 2008 |
@Queenisha:
I see that your argument, reveals your carnal mindset. We are talking about hereafter, completely, after the judgement have been pronounced. You see, there is no more free will at that time. Also every sin has been forgiven and not counted, anymore. It is by the Mercy of the Merciful that the muslims entered pardise. While it is by the justice of th Most Just that all others, Christians included entered Hell fore their Biggest sin, not worshipping God Almighty Allah alone. The people of paradise, as you already know will have their desreving spouses. First those of them on earth who worshipped Allah alone and are rewarded with Paradise, instead of being punished in Hell. The other parts of rewards will include, "river of wine," which does not give same effect of heacdache, and all the hangover that the products known as alcoholic beverages or wine/liquors give on earth. Allah qualifies it with, "for whose who drink." The fruits and eateries will be different and just cheer enjoyments. And yes, the newly created spouses are part of the enjoyments, too. I will reserve my "excesses," till Paradise. Thats where the real rewards with ultimate enjoyments are! Queenisha, please note that there will be nothing for Christians in Hellfire, except the greatest of punishments. No one among the inmates of this place can ever adjust to it. Maybe when you get there, you will see that you have been spoofed with Christian heaven. But there will not be anything of that in the day of Judgement. It will be a mere pie in the sky. Again, I am still inviting you and yours to join the in crowd, the group that will be in paradise, God Almighty Allah willing. No amount of Christian songs will help, because Jesus is simply a human prophet to the children of Israel. The same way that Moses was to them, earlier. Do you wanna end up where hindus, Buhhdists, taoist, etc with the Jews and Atheists among others will end up? @Aloy.Emeka: No muslims should not work in a pork factory. Just like some work in the other forbidden insdustries, I will not be surprise that the factory will have some muslims in their work force. |
Re: Can A Muslim Work In A Brewery Or Tobacco Factory by ayinba1(f): 7:00pm On Aug 23, 2008 |
@aloyemeka The question is "should" because "can" is a doable verb. SO as brother Olabowale said, a muslim should not work in an industry that produces waht is haram. If a muslim finds himself in such a situation (eg new convert) he should make a concerted effort to get a lawful means of livelihood. |

Can a muslim be on the recieving end of a Mouth Gig? |
Re: Can A Muslim Work In A Brewery Or Tobacco Factory by ayinba1(f): 2:06pm On Aug 24, 2008 |
@fotodaddy Absolutely! There are many muslims, Some more able to keep the commandments than others. You see, Aljannah (paradise) is not for everyone. The guidelines are in the Quran and Allah says He has not burdened anyone with more than they can bear. So yes, you must face the business of living in order to have a good life in this world and in the hereafter, Very doable since we have the Quran. We pray that Allah makes it easy for us. Recall " Straight and narrow is the path that leads to salvation" khai! I don dey forget my bible verses oh. Did you think they meant "disco jamborees" and anything goes? |
Re: Can A Muslim Work In A Brewery Or Tobacco Factory by DeepZone: 7:02pm On Aug 24, 2008 |
Can a muslim be on the recieving end of a Mouth Gig? A muslim is not allowed to have sex with non muslim and that is a fact. |

na wah!! Shocked Why do muslims rely on scholars to interpret their koran for them? Can't they read and understand with the help of God's spirit? |
Re: Can A Muslim Work In A Brewery Or Tobacco Factory by DeepZone: 7:06pm On Aug 24, 2008 |
Straight and narrow is the path that leads to salvation Stop misquoting my bible please. Why not cite a verse in Koran instead or is Koran not a complete literature? |

DeepZone: take am easy na!! There is no competition about which book is better or not!!! Whats important is what are you doing with what you know?? There is no better religion or worse religion. To those practicing it, its the ultimate. Whats up with you na?? Are you trying to prove that your religion is better than another's on account of the quotes?? |

ayinba1: Your comment is un-necessary. I am not on anybody's side but only stating fact. If we focus more on the things that unite us instead of the things that divide us this world will be a much better place. |

fotodaddy: I apologize that you find my thanking you for being sensible/objective so repulsive/offensive. You see manners are really hard to forget. At no point did I think you were on my side. I have Allah on my side. if you become a muslim today, same goes for you. I have never been one to sit on the fence and I have litttle respect for those who do. You will not please everyone butyou can easily please your Creator. Again, my apologies for the "un-necessary comment" |

If Allah forbids smoking, are all those chain smokers and taba takers not muslims? What of the beer in the butas, who get to drink them. Methink, muslims are more qualified to work in tobaco and cigarete companies while xtians qualify to work in breweries (not because they drink more but because they are open about their own) |

Re: Can A Muslim Work In A Brewery Or Tobacco Factory by Jarus(m): 6:00pm On Aug 25, 2008 |
nossycheek: Why are u reasoning like this? How many times do you want to be told that the fact that a Muslim does something does not mean Allah sanctions it. Then why do we have the term 'sin'? Or can we say Christianity sanctions prostitution when you see all the Glorias, Elizabeths,Marias, Felicias etc in brothels? |
Re: Can A Muslim Work In A Brewery Or Tobacco Factory by AloyEmeka9: 8:09pm On Aug 25, 2008 |
@aloyemeka Is Burantashi part of this haram? Because it's an intoxicant that is more deadly than tobacco but muslims continually peddle it in Nigeria. |
Re: Can A Muslim Work In A Brewery Or Tobacco Factory by ayinba1(f): 8:50pm On Aug 25, 2008 |
Intoxicants----alcohol etc, sorry the term burantashi is new to me , but yes if it can cause you harm then it is haram. |
