Like I posted, most of what is up there isn't even mine, but that of a nairalander ωħ☺ started same topic last year, Ŝ☺ don't heap it all on me. You can choose to believe what you want, everyone has Ǟ mind ☺₣ his own, after ÄŁĻ the westerners have been preaching for gay rights ǡŋ₫ we're yet to join them. Belief is optional, but slavery isn't |

safarigirl:^^^ That is where you are wrong. Ignorance is not bliss . . . if you choose to believe in what you cannot substantiate. . . that is definitely your choice, but the minute you reach beyond your mind, and decide to spew your belief out in the open, be ready to be questioned and have your belief scrutinized. Once again, you suggest that what the "WESTERNERS", and numerous Nigerians agencies( Both Governmental and Non-Govermmental),came up with, on this is wrong. There data and information all wrong. . . you suggest that even though your Government has gone out of its way to corroborate these claims, it is all false . . .I ask you . . . why should we believe what you have to spew? Where is your evidence? |

This is the type of topic that explain why so much poverty is tolerated in Nigeria. Most of these people do not even know the number of people that have access to internet or cable in Nigeria. Since most of the people they know are like them, that is all they know about Nigeria. It is this same standard that is used to raise university fees. What we forget is that most Nigerians still live in rural areas, not rat race cities. So if those in the cities send their kids to expensive schools and live on 100 dollars a day, so is the rest of Nigeria. We need to cry for this Country and revolution is over due because of insensitive nonsense spew by fellow Nigerians that refuse to accept that most people live below one dollar a day. Many of you do not even know what is 1-0-1, 0-0-1 or 1-0-0. No wonder, they claim gadgets reconfigured by college drop outs like Gate and Job as their gods. You people make me sick. Eventually you and those you benefit from will soon be wiped out before sanity can return to Nigeria. Obvious statistics and well know minimum wage are ridiculed when in fact many people make less than that. Is that why a man leaves home before his wife and children can get up to ask him for money? I feel sorry for these fools. Sio! Unfortunately, revolution sweeps everyone. |

@ Violet, thank God you've broken it down well enough. I'm ΩØƚ Ǟ corper, might not be in Ǟ couple ☺₣ years ǡŋ₫ what I posted wasn't my write-up, but someone else's opinion which I saw sense in. Why people would attack honest opinions just because it doesn't suit their ideology is over and beyond me |

violent: Youre a disgrace, not only to yourself but also to mankind as a whole, I'll tell you why in a bit. But, first, let me tell you that youre a freaking disgrace to the Nigerian Education System and the fact that you even hold a degree from any University in that country shows the level of decadence that country has fallen into. 10 more of your likes running around shows that theres no hope for Nigeria anytime soon. And your fellow didirins come dey hail you, you probably come dey fancy yourself as a scholar of inestimable repute, abi? What you did up there is like a person asking "Whats 2+2?" and you start telling us about the history of Pope John Paul I. Wetin concern us with how much you earned as a Corper? Is that the question at hand here? Are we asking how you survived as a Corper or are we debating whether or not Nigerians survive on less than $1/day?! Youre a horrible shame! Jesus, whats wrong with these kids? Is idiocy mixed in the water you all drink or what? How many Graduates are employed in Nigeria? Do statistics show that more than 80% of Nigerians live in abject poverty or not? Is the minimum wage in Nigeria N18000 or not? Look im mouth like "Egg on the expensive side". Youre so used to poverty that you actually think youre enjoying. Noodles?! Bread?! N3500 for a room and you come on here to boast about how you were living in total squalor. N2600 in savings every month equates to less than $7/month and thats what you used to buttress your point?! My friend, honestly, I shiver at the thought that your likes will one day procreate and pass your genes along to another human to continue a generation that will spread your wealth of ignorance. God! |
Re: Do We Nigerians Really Live In Less Than One Dollar Par Day ? by Kobojunkie: 2:25pm On Jan 30, 2012 |
If we are to assume that ~ Naira 11000 takes care of a single adult(assuming Naira 2600 goes to transport cost each month) Note: We have not considered cost of paying bills like Electricity, taxes, tv bill, water etc. Then one could conclude that to maintain a family of at least 3 on this tight budget described by @Violent, the family would need to bring in about Naira ~26,000 each month, an amount well above minimum wage. Or is this a wrong assumption? |

violent: Just submit yourself to the same Judge that just helped humanity get rid of another anuofia like yourself: Al-Mustapha. . . . remember to ask for the same judgement. Olodo, what are we discussing: "DO (MOST) NIGERIANS LIVE ON LESS THAN $1/DAY?" or "DID VIOLENT LIVE IN TOTAL SQUALOR WHILE THINKING HE WAS 'BALLING' JUST BECAUSE HE HAD 2 PHONES, COULD RECHARGE THEM WITH N1500, MAKE FREE CALLS AT MIDNIGHT AND EAT NOODLES AND EGGS THAT WERE ON THE 'EXPENSIVE' SIDE?" . No wonder you usually spend 11 years on a 4year course. Simple comprehension e no sabi. Ordinary answer e no fit give, come here dey try impress us with his suffer-head tales. Later, we go dey blame Government and University Governing bodies. What a dummy! |

kingoflag: I think you got him totally wrong. He was explaining to those who claimed it's impossible for anyone to survive with less than 2 dollars a day by citing an example using his own experience during his NYSC. If you read his post from the beginning, you'd see you are both saying the same thing. |

Arosa: Lmaoooooo Re-read your post. Morals of the story? Do not throw rocks when you live in a glass house. Oh, and when your superiors are talking, you shut the hell up and do something worthwhile like scratch your butt in public glare while chomping on a chewing like the bushman-illiterate you obviously are. Oh, and another one: Its better to be quiet and thought a bozzo, than to actually open your mouth and remove all doubts. SMH |

If I choose to include states like Ogun, Imo, Ananbra, Oyo, FCT, where the average person can afford at least two square meals, how true then is the 80% of Nigerians are poor theory? Or are the foreign bodies counting Almajiris(the only people ωħ☺ are really poor in my books)to be 80% of our population?Doesn't this post suggest that 80% of the Nigerian population are Almajiris? Kingoflag, you are a smart fool. |

Shock: Dude, please, please, please I dont know who you are and I'd hate to start on you too. I'm actually fuming right now because of something a colleague just said to me regarding this topic. You want to know what she said (when she walked into my office ----I asked her to go read up on this thread and tell me what she thinks) : "WHY DO YOU CARE ABOUT THOSE AFRICANS ANYWAYS?!" I just feel like smashing my computer out of frustration. How did I get him wrong if he's telling me that its impossible to survive on $2/day? How did I get him wrong if I'm telling him that not only do majority of Nigerians live on $2/day, but that in fact A LARGE AMOUNT OF THE POPULATION GO WITHOUT MEALS FOR DAYS. If hes not a dense dummy, that has trouble reading, wont he notice that I said earlier that I've been (and am still) involved with organizations that intend to alleviate poverty in Africa? You think we're just pulling out numbers out of our as*ses?! Imagine wealthy people, and organizations, reading the trash being posted here. . . why should we be surprised next time we ask them to join our cause and they refuse? "Oh, dont worry, its ok, I eat expensive egg and noodles , have two phones and can save $7/month. So, dont think we're suffering". So, please dont tell me that I'm getting him wrong, because, quite frankly, not only am I appalled, I'm incensed!!! |

kingoflag: You are both hammering the same point, can you not read? He was explaining how he managed to survive on a moderate budget, there was no place in his post that seem like he was boasting. @Post: Yes indeed, there are lots of people who live on a budget less than one dollar per day. My experience during NYSC was close to Violent's experience |
