Ive been a ardent fan of the Nairaland Auto Forum for more than 1 year but never had a need to post anything or even register. I have enjoyed the Posts of Some Dealers here like Viperman, Jenju, Inspired_m and a very few Others,

I have been watching with keen interest the Procedures Of advertisement and Car Sales, and the Full Disclosures Some dealers make or hide to Unsuspecting Buyers, and I was compelled to Register today because I have Identified a FRAUD

The Vin of the Toyota Matrix above was given as 2T1KR32E73C097572, and the Mileage was reported as 122,012 miles, The Poster by the name PhammyUS also posted that the Car is an All Wheel Drive,

After making Detailed Checks and Carfax Reports on the said vehicle Here are My Inferences

The Car Has been involved in an Accident, It Crashed into another Motor Vehicle on 16th Sept, 2004 in New York

The Mileage has been Rolled back as the Actual Last Mileage was 145,811 miles

and the Car is a Front Wheel Drive, Not an All Wheel Drive.

I wonder Why Dealers like this Phammyus Cannot be Genuine and Forthright, and why they have to Conceal Vital Information to Unsuspecting Buyers.

Many Family has been Killed and Some Maimed For life by Buying Cars with Serious Injury Problems without Knowing Especially when History are being Concealed,

I want the Administrator of this Website to Investigate this Poster and Appropriate Sanction be taken against him.,

He could have made a mistake about it being AWD, but the mileage could be what he is looking at.
Any car could have been in an accident and get repaired(fender benders, rear ends etc.)Salvage cars should be disclosed which is why its on the title. You can see that car Had just been bought at an auction, so you'll only find details Through paid services

I believe you are just one of the anemies of Progress. In the first place you said you have been ardent fan of NAIRALAND but never registered, the credibility of your status is not accepted to me.

PHAMMYUS is here to put credibility inplace, we discovered many dealers hide their VIN for one reason or the other, best known to them. But PHAMMYUS has nothing to hide because our deals are uncomparable, we make our deals open and sincere. We provide CARFAX report on demand by our customers to clarify our sincerity. I have never seen any Auto Dealer here find it credible to include the VIN of their so advertised cars, so if there is a little miss up in the information given, for the fact that we present the VIN, well wishing NAIRALANDERs or so called ARDENT FAN should at least find it acceptable and not try to detroy PHAMMYUS image.

We give you our words our fellow NAIRALANDERS that this car is not rolled back for any reason, if we have rolled it back we will never had presented the VIN. Though there was a mistake in the mileage we presented, the actual reading is 145,811 mile. By tomorrow, if PHAMMYUS can not present the proof That support this claim we will leave this forum for real. But if we do present the proof, i believe our SINCERITY and CREDIBILITY are reinforced.

We never hide the present condition of our products, we tell the truth and buyers decide on what they go for, maybe the DECEITFUL DEALER or the HONEST DEALER.

ROMEOBEST, it is certained that you are the one not wanted on this forum because you had never become one of us. Bring out more credible issues, stop trying to bring people down encourage them to do the right thing like what PHAMMYUS is trying to bring into this forum. In your Country i'm sur any car advertised are given the VIN, so do not encourage FRAUD here in NIGERIA, we are moving towards CREDIBILITY.

To phammyus, ROMEOBEST is a AUTO DEALER FRAUDSTER already registered on nairaland but trying to bring other dealers down. He is not an AMERICAN or live in America as he calimed.

Fellow NAIRALANDERS, to further encourage nairaland auto dealers in doing the right things for the interest of nairaland auto buyer i suggest this allegation should be treated as INIMICAL which will not help this forum in any way.

I rest my case, thanks and best regards.
Re: 2003 Toyota Matrix Xr, 4 Cyl. Another Phammyus Deal, Unbeatable! by ziontrain: 6:56pm On Sep 21, 2008
Nairalanders, there are still some unresolved issues here. First of all, let me salute the openness of Phammyus for providing the VIN number of his vehicle. I think this singular act is worthy of commendation. However, he needs to answer the questions regarding the accident and salvage status of the vehicle. Is Romeobest's accusation true? I will give Phammyus the benefit of the doubt regarding mileage just because he provided the VIN number.

We all know of the implications of selling salvaged vehicles and "accidented" vehicles that cause death to loved ones, financial loss to buyers not to talk of those who end up being maimed. Let's wait to hear from Phammyus regarding these other issues that he is yet to address before passing any judgement. I think this is only fair.
Re: 2003 Toyota Matrix Xr, 4 Cyl. Another Phammyus Deal, Unbeatable! by promise72(m): 6:57pm On Sep 21, 2008
To Everyone,

All i can sayis this. If it is tru that the allegations are as said. It still doesnt implicate the seler of the car because he could have been duped himself. Believe me i know. Nigerians are not only the crooked ones when it comes to car business. Also it does not make hime innocent either.

To settle this case, lets provide the vin to any resident Nairalander who can independently verify the claim and go from there. Before we start lynching the seller. I dont know either of them.

However the guy making the allegations kinda baffled me. To say that you have been a keen reader but didnt post anything at all. Then you were ready to go to all lenght on this car ALONE. Several cars are sold on this forum. Im sort of baffled.

What other cars did you check on? if we must know. I smell bad belle somewhere.

So over to people that have CARFAX account. Lets check. We go from there
Re: 2003 Toyota Matrix Xr, 4 Cyl. Another Phammyus Deal, Unbeatable! by ziontrain: 7:12pm On Sep 21, 2008
@Promise72, while I agree with you that Phammyus should not be lynched and that an independent person should verify CARFAX report, I don't agree with the notion that someone else could have duped a Nigerian and so it's business as usual. As car dealers, it is our responsibility to ascertain that the vehicle we are purchasing has no known issue. This is what CARFAX is for.

I will say it again, LET US MAKE PROVISION OF VIN NUMBER MANDATORY FOR ALL POSTINGS ON THIS FORUM. This will help us all avoid the chaos. Imagine if Phammyus did not provide VIN number of his vehicle. Basically, we will not be having this discussion. I may be wrong but I will want to believe that Phammyus is a genuine dealer who does not mean any harm. Let's just wait to hear from him. In the meantime, JENJU!! I think we need your CARFAX service now.
Re: 2003 Toyota Matrix Xr, 4 Cyl. Another Phammyus Deal, Unbeatable! by promise72(m): 8:16pm On Sep 21, 2008
What im still saying is this. The seller has been around this post a while so he knows that vin can be verified. He can always say he will provide vin later if he knows that something is amiss.

Him providing the vin is why im giving him an element of the doubt here. Until otherwise.

Should he have checked the car to know hes selling clean car? Sure. But mistakes do happen and we dont kno how he came upon the car sef. lets wait and see.

i still say lets see what an independent checker say.

Romeobest, in your fiest posting to alert this fraud, you said the mileage was reported as 145,811. However in the CARFAX posting you made it shows 145,720. Although its not too far from each other but my question is that where did you get you first figure?

If its not from carfax where did it come from? Lets see how this plays out. Im goin to hold my judgement against the seller for now.

If you are interested in the car ask questions about the car, but if you are not buying just leave the guy alone.

I would have prefered not to be dragged into this thread.  I will however post the Autocheck report for the vehicle in question. There is probably an easy explanation for the issues raised.  I can't imagine that anyone would be stupid enough to post the VIN of a car with all the issues raised, for all to see, if fraud was intended.  I too wait curiously for Phammyus' explanation.

In fairness to Phammyus, he wrote this on the first post of this thread:

DRIVETRAIN: AWD

VIN: 2T1KR32E73C097572

FEATURES

* Automatic Transmission.
* Front Wheel Drive.* Central Lock System.
* Power Steering.
* Power Windows.

He first states that the car is AWD, but he lists that it is Front Wheel Drive under features. I'm not sure that fraud was intended here - I think this dealer just needs to pay more attention to what he is doing.

My humble advice to dealers: If a car is accidented, tell buyers upfront - not all accidented cars are death traps. Never rollback odometer of a car you offer for sale, it is actually a crime to do so in the USA. Practice full disclosure.

The market is big enough for all of us. There is no substitute for honesty.

Phammyus is only trying to earn a good and healthy living by offering to sell good cars at cheap prices, while Mr. Romeo fake alert trying to destroy Phammyus good name.

What a disgrace Romeo- stupid- best?
Re: 2003 Toyota Matrix Xr, 4 Cyl. Another Phammyus Deal, Unbeatable! by weimar: 4:41am On Sep 22, 2008
I would suspect that most cars that are shipped to Nigeria for sale are pretty much cars that have had, in one way other, some accidents. So long as the seller can rebuild his/her cars for sale, that is by buying new engine (if it needs new engine) or even buying new body parts. People regularly do this around the world and it is not illegal. My problem is changing the milleage. This, to me, is dishonesty. We need to avoid this backward behavior; like the person who detected the mistake, accidents can result and can lead to loss of lives.

So, openness is not enough to do good business. You need more than that. You do everything to remove any atom of dishonesty. Your go is to gain the confidence of your customers. You don't do this by providing misleading info irregardless of how cheap the car is. In a professional business, execuses are no no. It is irrelevant. Immagine if the gentleman didn't do his research. No one would have known. It may not be deliberate but in business, it is considered deliberate and as a seller you have just lost your ability to gain the confidence of your buyers.

Another problem I see in recent car business is sellers over inflating the price their products or even deflating the price of a car. This might be as evil as anything. A set of fair or reasonable procedures for buying and selling cars in Nigeria need to be in place that can help protect buyers and sellers. We also need to provide conducive competitive environment beneficial to both sellers and buyers.

Another thing I have noticed in this forom is the fact when someone puts an ad by creating new topic, requesting if people who love to buy their car, land or whatever (as an example), you find someone else bring their ad in the same topic. To me, this is like a thief coming to steal your business plan right in your face. It is not advisable and it is not a good business practice. If you think you want to place an ad to sell a product even if the product you want to sell is the same as others, why not create a new topic to present your product rather than trying to steal a business from others who are only entitled to the add they placed for their product. This sort of behavior, to me is extremely barbarian and it doesn't portray or demonstrate any form of professionalism.

Nairalanders, what do you think?
Re: 2003 Toyota Matrix Xr, 4 Cyl. Another Phammyus Deal, Unbeatable! by promise72(m): 5:46am On Sep 22, 2008
Word.

As far as im concerned, i will still wait for the seller. i still cant rule it out that he was duped. Although its his responsibility to know that the car he's selling is representing the tru mileage however he might have been duped also from whoever bought it at auction and sold it to him.

Did the seller bought it from auction (in New York) himself? may be, may be not. If he did, then he's the crook. If not, he might have been duped.

Knowing that vin can be checked, he wouldnt have posted it at all. At least i will commend him for doin that.

Here i rest.

PHAMMYUS REPLY

My fellow NAIRALANDERS, like I posted in my last post that I will give you the evidence that my car mileage is not rolled
back for any reason, that the information presented was a mistake including the AWD which is supposed to be FWD. In fact that mileage was for another car which is the 2002 MAZDA TRIBUTE that was equally posted that same day. Here I attach the photos of the current mileage on the odometer and the information flag on the wind shield on the car which we never alter for any reason. If PHAMMYUS has rolled the mileage back all this evidence will not have been available. I want NAIRALANDRS to look into this vividly. We all make mistakes as human beings.

As reported that the car was accidented by CARFAX report, you can deduce from the carfax report that the car was involved in an accident on the 16th of September 2004, and has been fixed and STILL BEING USED till 26th of May 2008 when it was auctioned. From this it is cleared that the accident was a minor one and which was not a serious accident as described by ROMEOBEST. It is clearly evident that ROMEOBEST is attacking us unjustly. He just felt threatened that PHAMMYUS is progressing on NAIRALAND. THAT PHAMMYUS WILL NEVER DO!

Therefore I demand an unreserved APOLOGY from so called ROMEOBEST of which I know is also a car dealer on this forum and not in INGLEWOOD CALIFONIA, for bringing PHAMMYUS into a state of PUBLIC DISREPUTE, OPPROBRIUM and of questionable CREDIBILITY and BELIEVABILITY.

I REST MY CASE FOR NOW

Nairalanders, what say you? I think I will give Phammyus a pass on this. He should pay more attention next time to avoid this type of issue. Let me once again salute his openness by providing the VIN number of the vehicle. Can you imagine the type of cars some unscrupulous dealers have been selling on this forum without providing the VIN numbers. Only God knows what people have bought from those dealers thinking they got cars.

Seun/Siena, I think it is high time we stopped being quiet about this mandatory provision of VIN numbers with all postings regarding sale of vehicles. Think about the lives you will save in Nigeria by this singular act. I think this is a moral issue. May God save us from these unscrupulous dealers.

@Romeobest, I think you owe Phammyus an apology on this. What you did was really uncalled for at the time you did it.

ROMEOBEST, it certained that you are the one not wanted on this forum because you had never become one of us. Bring out more credible issues, stop trying to bring people down encourage them to do the right thing like what PHAMMYUS is trying to bring into this forum.

Fellow NAIRALANDERS, to further encourage nairaland auto dealers in doing the right thing for the interest of nairaland auto buyer i suggest this allegation should be treated as INIMICAL which will not help this forum in any way.

I rest my case, thanks and best regards.

It was not until he was pressed by several people that he came up with his final explanation. The question is why did he not simply admit  his mistake when he was first confronted?

Despite all the blame piled on Romeobest on nairaland, I for one applaud him. BRAVO!! Any dealer that will try to sell an accidented car with 145,000 miles and try to market it as a great deal is less than honest. I mean such a car will be needing a new engine, transmission, and a few other parts pretty soon.  If a dishonest dealer can rollback mileage, what makes people think that he cannot roll it forward to prove a point. The fact that this guy did not come clean initially makes me remain doubtful.

People said Romeobest was quick to accuse the seller of fraud - maybe so, but he caught the dealer trying to take undue advantage of unsuspecting buyers.

Romeobest, you have done your bit to sanitise the website. I salute you.

I think Phammyus also owes everyone an apology. Here was his initial response to the accusation:

Akuya,

Your Posts on here stands out and I strongly doubt you are a Nigerian, and if you are, then Nigeria still has Hope.

A country full of biased, sentimental, blinkered, and jaundiced leaders & followers. There are still a very few reasonable men left in Nigeria, If Akuya is really a Nigerian, then there is this tiny bit of hope left for that country. angry angry

PHAMMYUS REPLY

Therefore I demand an unreserved APOLOGY from so called ROMEOBEST of which I know is also a car dealer on this forum and not in INGLEWOOD CALIFONIA, for bringing PHAMMYUS into a state of PUBLIC DISREPUTE, OPPROBRIUM and of questionable CREDIBILITY and BELIEVABILITY.

Please ROMEOBEST is the above allegation true or false, that you 're not in INGLEWOOD CALIFONIA, as contains in your profile?

Please seun/administrator trace his IP address and let us know his location.
