desgiezd:

You will soon discover to your utter disappointment that Shekarau was appointed so that he could do the 2015 groundworks for GEJ in Kano. He is not there to help Nigerian education grow but purely for politics!

He would definitely work with GEJ and also do the work he's been assigned to do; which is excelling in a ministry where known Professors have failed woefully.

[quote author=okotv]with the level of decadence in our educational sector one would think that our president would get it right but with these and many more to come one would now begin to wonder if OGA JONATHAN wont spoil all he has laboured to build with his own hands.......

See, this is the way politics is been play all over the world, it is a compensation game, if any technocrat believe they can do better let them join politics, u cant stay outside the game and hope for appointment when some people labour for it. On either shekarau will deliver or not depend on him as a person, the agric minister is delivering and he is a politician. Dont just think that u will just get appointment because u are techno or tehnocrat

Meringe: Education Ministry shouldn't be in the hands of politicians, it should be for tacticians and core educators. The most important sector of the society.

Decided to check Shekarau's profile and I got this:

Shekarau became Deputy Director of Education in charge of Bichi Zonal Education Area in 1992. One year later, he was promoted to Director Planning, Research and Statistics in Ministry of Education. Two year later, he became Director General (Permanent Secretary), Ministry of Education and Youth Development.

In January 1995, Shekarau was transferred to Ministry of Water Resources, Rural and Community Development, then back to Ministry of Education in January – May 1997 before he was asked to moved to General Service Directorate of the Cabinet Office, all as Permanent Secretary. By February 2000, he was on the move again to Civil Service Commission, where he stayed for only four months before the civil service commission under Ado Gwaram Government sent him to the State College of Arts, Science and Remedial Studies (CASRS) as Chief lecturer (Mathematics) at the Department of Physical Sciences, in May 2000. Shekarau remained in this post for 17 months before he voluntarily retired from the services of Kano State Civil Service on 2 October 2001. Some time after quitting his post as Chief Lecturer,

When one makes comments that are not based on COMPLETE information there is the risk of embarrasing oneself as CLUELESS shocked
Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan obviously made a good choice of "a tactician core educator" cum politician for a vital sector.

We should ask our STATE governors and LGA chairmen:

What are they doing about giving ALL our children FREE & compulsory education in primary/VOCATIONAL/secondary/TECHNICAL schools as per their RESPONSIBILITY under our constitution

That is what SENSIBLE people would do REPEATEDLY angry

Who told you the FG doesn't have the cash? If the Super Eagles demands that to start preparing for the next world cup, you will see if the FG won't caugh it out.
If GEJ decides not to buy an additional jet, cuts down on wastage, the money would be realized.

It is going to take far more than the cost of twenty presidential jets to adequately fund education.

That is why I always say that education should be 26% of the budget. No excuses.

Either that....or we

1.Pay high fees

2.Remove the fuel subsidy.....and use the cash saved to fund education well

Meringe: Education Ministry shouldn't be in the hands of politicians, it should be for tacticians and core educators. The most important sector of the society. Japan and china have no oil but the are one of the leading economy cos they invested in education. I thought GEJ would have made a good appointment on this but I'm disappointed.
Its not all about next election but our future as a country!!!

Shekarau had been a teacher and Educational Administrator throughout his life prior to becoming Gov of Kano. I think he is ok for the Job.

He was a teacher, he is now a politician. There are some ministries that you don't need politicians to handle. Its an open knowledge that he was appointed there for 2015 elections. Kano had almajiris as teacher governor. Is that an applause?
Let's differentiate btw politics and good governance.

There is no ministries that you don't need politicians to handle. Who better than politicians to navigates the murky waters and machinations existing in the ministries?

What we need are sincere and dedicated ones.

Posterity will judge whether shekarau is right or wrong for the post. So let watch.

Permanent Secretaries and directors are there to provides guidance.

Gej, Sir,Shekarau is a core politian, the only change we can expect from him is how to gain back his lost glory, by appointing those that he lose to APC. We need a dedicative person. Though, We can judge a book by it cover.

There is a partial subsidy.....remember that originally fuel price was supposed to reach N150....before govt reduced it to N97...plus 'fuel subsidy payments'' are being made to marketers.

If there was no subsidy, oil prices would be around N200 by now.

There has been no subsidy from the beginning. It is a sham. Don't allow anybody deceive you. Gani Fawehinmi wrote a book where he enumerated it. This was endorsed by economists like Pat Utomi and Henry Boyo.
