Na so Prof. Jibril Aminu come with 6-3-3-4 system .....wonder what this would bring - compulsory Islamic Studies so both Muslims and Non-Muslims can interact well after understanding each other's doctrine Correction....6-3-3-4 was introduced in 1978....long before Prof Aminu's time...and it was the idea of the late Prof Fafunwa. (i.e....the children who entered primary one in 1978.....were the first set to undergo 6334). |

berem: was it Wike that told you that there's no money to fund tertiary institutions or you woke up from the wrong side of the bed this morning? Last year, ASUU went on strike. Key among their demands was that govt give universties the N3 trillion promised them in 2009. Govt said it was not possible....and instead offered them N1 trillion over 5 years. If Govt had the cash.....the N3 trillion won't have been a problem at all They are now trying to tell the polytechinc lecturers the same story. If they had the cash.....the ASUU strike would not have lasted as long as it did....and the poly strike would have never happened. 1 Like |

Why are the yorubas not seen fit to be named ministers instead of junior ministers, and the hungry political jobbers are happy and well satisfied with these insulting portfolios for mere personal gains. |

with the level of decadence in our educational sector one would think that our president would get it right but with these and many more to come one would now begin to wonder if OGA JONATHAN wont spoil all he has laboured to build with his own hands. By the way, are there no more technocrats in this country to move the educational sector forward |

Shekarau was born in the Kurmawa quarters of Kano, the son of a police officer. He was educated at Gidan Makama Primary School (1961–1967), then at Kano Commercial College (1967–1973) and finally at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria (1973–1977) where he received a Degree in Mathematics/Education. After finishing his Degree, he went into the civil service. Later on, he started his career as a Mathematics teacher at Government Technical College, Wudil in 1978. Two years later he became Principal at Government Day Junior Secondary School, Wudil. In 1980 he was transferred to Government Secondary School, Hadejia, then to Government College Birnin Kudu in 1986, then to Government Secondary School, Gwammaja and then to Rumfa College in March 1988, all as the school's principal. Career Shekarau became Deputy Director of Education in charge of Bichi Zonal Education Area in 1992. One year later, he was promoted to Director Planning, Research and Statistics in Ministry of Education. Two year later, he became Director General (Permanent Secretary), Ministry of Education and Youth Development. In January 1995, Shekarau was transferred to Ministry of Water Resources, Rural and Community Development, then back to Ministry of Education in January – May 1997 before he was asked to moved to General Service Directorate of the Cabinet Office, all as Permanent Secretary. By February 2000, he was on the move again to Civil Service Commission, where he stayed for only four months before the civil service commission under Ado Gwaram Government sent him to the State College of Arts, Science and Remedial Studies (CASRS) as Chief lecturer (Mathematics) at the Department of Physical Sciences, in May 2000. Shekarau remained in this post for 17 months before he voluntarily retired from the services of Kano State Civil Service on 2 October 2001. Some time after quitting his post as Chief Lecturer, he decided to work as a secretary to businessman Aminu Dantata. He was employed under Dantata until he became a contender in Kano State's 2003 gubernatorial elections. During the last presidential election campaign, I listened to him on the TV as he unveils his agenda.... He's sound and sincere, hope he will focus on education and not politics. He should serve as an evangelist for western education in the north since he himself is a beneficiary 2 Likes |

Meringe: People talk as if all politicians are riff-raffs, some of them have performed more than your so-called professionals. This is a guy that has got all his experience from the Education sector, being a former governor/politician would not take his professional experience as Mathematics teacher and Education administrator away from him. You may not agree with me but Mallam Shekarau is a round peg in a round hole. 1 Like |
