Brazil 2014 Super Eagles’ handler, Stephen Keshi, is in line to be named as the Bafana Bafana of South Africa coach by next week, The Eagle Online has gathered.

Former Bafana Bafana Coach, Carlos Queiroz, who took Iran to the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil, was reported to be a hot favourite for the job also.

However, reports on Tuesday suggested Queiroz has extended his contract with the Iranian team.

Meanwhile, SAFA CEO, Dennis Mumble, said on Tuesday that the new Bafana Bafana coach will be announced at a National Executive Committee meeting on July 26.

“The position of the Senior Men’s National team needs to be ratified by the SAFA NEC; therefore, the long-awaited announcement of the new Bafana Bafana coach will be made immediately after the NEC meeting next Saturday,” Mumble said in a statement.

Outgoing coach Gordon Igesund was informed last month that his contract would not be renewed after it expires at the end of August.

Other names bandied about is the current South African under-20 and under-23 coach, Shakes Mashaba.

Though both SAFA and Keshi initially denied being into talks on the possibility of the Nigerian taking over the South African coaching job, the Super Eagles coach hinted after his return from the World Cup that indeed he was contacted for the Bafana Bafana job.
