Vin is the same as Chasis Number, Vin simply means Vehicle Identification Number.

I'm not sure if anyone realises this but publishing Vehicle numbers freely, so anyone can see could be giving car thieves and stolen car dealers a pot of gold. The number of a legally imported car, not stolen etc, can easily be cloned and used on an identical vehicle which doesnt have such an innocent past. So went a buyer comes along feeling all sharp and checks the vin number on the stolen vehicle it will check out. this can be used on older vehicles and accident damaged ones as well. so do be a little careful.

Regarding the question of providing a  pot of gold to rogues, I think that pot of gold is already present all over the internet. The rogues already have their networks of obtaining those numbers.  They can search for specific car models, colours, etc in sites like cars.com; autotraders.com, ebay, yahoo etc and get whatever chassis number they desire. Those numbers are  required on advertisements in those sites.  Just my own opinion -
