Sir, I am very good in Biology and even the maths... i had always nurtured this dream of studying either medicine or pharmacy but on the long run I deviated. Chiefly because I think I can't dissect cadavers, Lol, yea, a friend of mine told me about how one would work on real corpses, and I developed a phobia immediately. Is there a branch of medicine that doesn't deal with cadavers

lol.....u have to conquer dat fear, i was actually lyk u b4 i got into med skul(due to excess home video......hehe.....)but i conquered that when i got to the cadaver lab and i realised those bodies r actually lifeless and all those ish i had were all fallacies....

Whaaoo.it's lyk d Op went to my skul or d xperience in all medical skul is just similar.Most of the students who use to move stuffs in gross lab then v now been withdrawn.The ones with 5.0 G.p in 100level are no where to b found.It's survival of d fittest.it's beyond academical soundness.u need to b an all rounder.u v to knw wat to read.I agree wt u 100%.Medical skul no b beans.Medilag has taught me a lot

Ya. You av to have at least a credit in physics in WAEC, then you'll also have to pass physics 101 and 102 in your first year.

OP: I agree with majority of your points. Medical school is quite challenging but you can still have time for Amaka, Nneoma, sports, school politics, parties and much more. It all depends on you, time management, smart work (like you said) and whatever floats your boat.

There was a popular slogan back then in Med school "ANY STUDENT THAT MAKES 100% ATTENDANCE IS A MAD MAN ".

Permit me to add to your excellent points ..

13) Don't compete with anyone rather "compete" with yourself : Strive to improve your grades and never be contented that you've given your maximum. There is always a room for improvement.

14) Be fearless : Never panic. stay calm and be focused. Be confident. The Bible says "faith cometh by hearing of the word " but I say Confidence Cometh By Reading in Med School.

15) Mix Up : Make friends with students of other departments ...law, engineering, management etc. It helps.

@OP...nice to know that you embraced God and worked really hard..I give you less than 5 years from now,those nursing students will see your other side ..We have seen it all...the fear of MBBS exams are the beginning of wisdom..for most medicos,once that nightmares are over,its enjoyment galore....nurses,nursing students,mid-wives,patients relatives ..its census....most of you lots turn into the oga kpatakpata of national population commission.


Im talking from experience,i know lots of them who preached from year one till 2nd MBBS.....Then graduated.....then changed ...infact from their final year,you would not believe some of these guys ever stood in front of the class to preach.

concernin ur second question evry health sciences students do study physics in year 1. so either medicine/pharmacy u A goin to study physics. btw am a pharmacy student in OAU

mentorandfriend: I replied in respect to his question as a Bsc student. He cant do any masters in medicine with a Bsc. Of course after Medicine, the opportunities are endless. Masters in Epidemiology, Occupational Health, Environmental Health, Public Health Policy, Biostatistics, Reproductive Health, Mental Health, Dental Health, Primary Health Care, Pharmacology, etc. But doing residency for 5-6 years to specialise is a better option to me than those masters programmes.

You can still do a Master in Public health, pharmacology, Epidemiology etc if you have a B.Sc Nursing or professional degrees like B.MLS, B.Pharm, O.D. etc
As long as you are a health science graduate the opportunities will be there. But residency is the way to go for most M.BBS grads.

not everybody is privileged to get scholarships, but i didnt like the fact that those who already had one kept jostling for more with those who were indigent and didnt have, using the money to buy luxury goods...it wasn't fair and just plain greed
