The Independent National Electoral
Commission has put the level of turnout
of voters during Saturday’s
governorship election at 54.17 per cent.
This was contained in the “declaration of
results” sheet obtained from the website
of the electoral body on Tuesday.
Twenty political parties fielded
candidates in the election which was
won by the incumbent Governor Rauf
Argebesola of the All Progressives
Congress.
Aregbesola received 394,684 votes
while his closest rival, Iyiola Omisore,
polled 292,747 votes.
The sheet indicates that there were
1,411,373 registered voters in the state.
Of this number 764,582 voters were
accredited for the election.
The total number of valid votes was
717,321; total number of votes cast was
750,021. The summary also indicates
that 32,700 votes were rejected.
The electoral body apparently arrived at
the 54.17 per cent voters turnout based
on the number of registered voters and
the number of voters accredited for the
election on Saturday.
