The proprietors have a point likewise FG too. But we should not downplay the dangers of ebola epidemic spiraling out of control. I believe this is one of the measures to follow until the country is certified safe & free from any traces of ebola. They should realise that Nigerian government doesn't have the capacity to handle such infectious disease if it spiral out of control like in Liberia. 2 Likes |

Have the private schools owners considered what will happen should markets close down? In a situation such as we find ourselves now, market is more essential than school now so no need comparing the two. As for religious houses, the govt can't conveniently close them down given how "religious" we Nigerians are, thus the much it can do is partner with their leaders on the best way possible. The Catholic Church for instance has banned handshakes during the rite of peace and other measures already taken and the measures are being adhered to. Can these little kids be expected to abide by such measures at school? Certainly not. I feel the pains of the schools owners but also feel they should make this sacrifice for the sake of their students/pupils. 1 Like |

henryobinna: any school that refuses to oblige should be closed down. period! GBAM!!!! Th e school proprietors are the clueless not GEJ in this isolated case of impending national calamity. The private school owners are after pecuniary gains. When schools are closed spread and risk among children are curtailed because of effect on public transportations as not all children are commuted to schools in private car. The govt should release guidelines containing precautionary measures for school to follow before the schools are reopened and any infractions sanctioned. For now let the children remain at home under the waycful eyes of their parents its illogical liken school with churches 2 Likes |

Onyegecha: I AGREE WITH THE PRIVATE SCHOOL OWNERS ON THIS. ASKING SCHOOLS NOT TO OPEN IS A GOOD DEFINITION OF CLUELESSNESS.Lets have it in mind that most of these children travelled to ebola prone countries. Asking them to stay at home for one month is to enable them show symptom of the virus if any before resuming back to school. Children don't know boundaries so can't but contact the virus if they come in contact with a sufferer. The proprietors are just bothered about the school fees that won't be rolling in this September. 8 Likes 1 Share |

Greedy set of people, how can they compare markets and schools. Markets is for adults and we adults can take care of ourselves. But d school is filled up with under age kids that can't differentiate their left from their right. Pls our kids need stay at home so that daddy and mummy will take care of them. As for educating them on hygiene, parents can do that also. imagine what will happen if one kid should come to school with Ebola. Ebola is not like chicken pox. The federal govt need to get them arrested. 7 Likes 1 Share |

Neduzze5: Lolz... That's why it's not good to count your chicks before they hatch. There's nothing like September term. Students and pupils don't pay fees monthly. The teachers will still get their pay because the pupils and students will pay the full school fees whenever school resumes. 1 Like |

The senselessness and total disregard for the health and wellbeing of their pupils is demonstrated by these ignorant and clueless money grabbing heads of schools. We all know how you cannot suddenly teach children hand hygiene that has not been a part of them and how they pick things up and sometimes put things in their mouth. Parents have a choice about visiting and look out for their children in all the other places mentioned. One can just shake ones head when meets with this type of a demonstration of lack of commonsense. 1 Like |

What are these teachers ranting about? They think they know better than our health experts on how to control the spread of Ebola. Opening schools will likely cause the kids of primary and secondary contacts to spread the virus to other pupils. 2 Likes |

Sad for private school teachers who would have to go unpaid for the month of September. As if the paltry salaries they're paid were enough really. |

mencade5: when these students get infested you will be the first to shout government are not doing anything.Infested only in school? Can't d also be infested in dia various religious gathering as well. If d government wants to prevent d spread of Ebola by gatherings schools, market n religious places re likely target. |

My family owns a school in Lagos and l tell you the loss of revenue ain't little! When school finally resumes, parents will be paying half term fees, it is not funny but who dares go against the Federal Government? |
Re: Ebola: School Owners, FG On Collision Course by heedthee: 9:10am On Aug 30, 2014 |
I pity the school owners but they should understand that the play in schools bring physical contact that doesn't necessarily happen in markets and religious places. Also when schools resume there will be serious movement of people not just across towns but state. Let's be patient for the safety of all. 1 Like |
