Lost but Found... Sorry folks for my long unceremonious absence... I've been pretty occupied... Well today I get una time... We would be talking about who a Petrophysicist is... After-which, you'd be left with the choice of downloading the eBooks I will be sharing as regards this line of profession... Stay Tuned... |

PETROPHYSICIST Summary of Occupation Petrophysicists study and analyse the chemical and physical properties of oil and gas deposits, including the surrounding rocks and soil. They collect and examine data about these reservoirs including, rock density, pore pressure, electrical and acoustic properties of the rock and the level of radioactivity. The data they collect can be used to estimate how porous the rocks are, the volume of oil and/or gas present and whether it can be extracted. Petrophysicists play a vital role in the search for and recovery of new oil and gas reserves, and are involved in the management of mineral resources from initial exploration right through the appraisal of deposits to development and production management. Knowledge, Skills and Attributes A petrophysicist needs: • an interest in scientific and technical activities • the ability to work both independently and as part of a team • good communication and report writing skills • analytical and problem-solving ability • high level of computing skills Working Condition Petrophysicists usually work for oil and gas mining companies, either in offices or in the field. Fieldwork is frequently in remote locations, particularly in the state's North-West, or on offshore drilling platforms. When conducting fieldwork, the hours of work can be long and often include working evenings and on weekends, in most weather conditions. Petrophysicists working in an office environment generally work standard business hours, though overtime may be required, particularly during operations. A large part of their work is done on computers. Salary Details Petroleum engineers, which may include petrophysicists, can expect to earn between $170,000 and $220,000* per year, depending on their level of experience and the organisation they work for. This is a highly specialized role and salaries tend to reflect this, increasing as a petrophysicist gains experience. * Hays Salary Survey (2009) Tool and Technologies Petrophysicists use rock samples and electrical measuring equipment, inserted into boreholes, to collect data. This data is then analysed and integrated using computers, often with specialised software. The techniques for analysing and interpreting data are constantly developing, and most petrophysicists will develop new techniques, or modify existing ones, that are best suited to the particular reservoir being examined. When in the field they must follow strict safety guidelines, which includes wearing personal protection equipment at all times. This may include overalls, boots, safety goggles, a hard hat and gloves. Education and training/entrance requirements To become a petrophysicist you generally have to gain significant practical fieldwork experience in petroleum and/or oil and gas mining. Most petrophysicists also complete a degree in geology, engineering or physics, though other fields, such as chemistry or mathematics, may also provide a relevant background. You may improve your employment prospects if you also complete a postgraduate qualification in petrophysics. All universities in Western Australia offer undergraduate degrees in potentially relevant fields. Contact the University of your Choice for full details of the courses they offer. Source: http://www.careercentre.dtwd.wa.gov.au/Occupations/Pages/petrophysicist.aspx The above is a brief insight on who a Petrophysicist is and also the job description. Today I’d be sharing some helpful eBooks with the intention of boosting your skills and competence in this field. Don’t take most of those grammar stated above to seriously. Like say una no go fit sabi except say oyibo tich you or una go one training for France, Houston or Dubai. Well, that may have been true decades ago, when we didn’t have access to books to assist and equip us. You are not expected to read these eBooks cover to cover (if you fit, it’s to your advantage). It’s just to get yourself familiar with another big seller in the oil industry (Petrophysics). Intimating yourself with it may later help you decide on your career path, if you are still coming up. Also, when you eventually get employed and your working environment demands that you have cross-discipline knowledge that cuts across Petrophysics, Seismic Interpretation, Petroleum Engineering and Geomodeling, you are guaranteed not to be entirely lost… Enough talks… Find below download links for these 3 eBooks I am sharing. almaliki: That is quite an interesting area... You'd be very relevant as a geomodeler in the industry... My advise will be that you go for one of these crash course in some geology related areas for about 2weeks or go for a masters program in geology/geophysics... That way, you'd have built a foundation for yourself... You'd need such background/foundational knowledge when it comes to troubleshooting a problematic model or any other areas in geoscience you may find yourself... If you have perused through the pages in this thread, you'd see that i have uploaded a petrel manual and its training data. The more you practice, the stronger and more familiar you get with its functionality and applications pending when you get your hands on something different.... |

Can anyone help out on explaining How sedimentary structures can be used to reconstruct paleoenvironment. |
Re: GEOSCIENTIST & PETROLEUM ENGINEER's HAVEN - Be Empowered, Enriched & Enlightened by ifoundmyperfect: 2:02pm On Feb 25, 2015 |
Kingzy4pep: I am not a sedimentologist. But I have just placed a call across to a veteran in the field who told me it was very possible to reconstruct a paleoenvironment using sedimentary structures. 'because I have always thought It was only possible using the knowledge of micropaleontology and palynology... I have requested for a research paper or any helpful material. Once I get a word from him, I'd share with you. But notwithstanding, i'd make further research to root out any eBook that may be of help to you during my spare time... |

Right now I need the Schlumberger Techlog manual & software. I want to learnt it. Can anyone on here be of help |
Re: GEOSCIENTIST & PETROLEUM ENGINEER's HAVEN - Be Empowered, Enriched & Enlightened by yinkeys(m): 7:51am On Mar 02, 2015 |
I think this is worth sharing Techlog is a Schlumberger owned Windows based software platform intended to aggregate all the wellbore information. It allows the user to interpret any log and core data. It addresses the need for a single platform able to support all the wellbore data and interpretation integration workflows, reducing the need for a multitude of highly specialized tools. By bringing the whole workflow into a single platform risk and uncertainty can be assessed throughout the life of the wellbore. History of TechlogTechlog software was developed in Montpellier (South of France) by a company called Techsia. Techsia were formed in 2000. The first version of Techlog was commercially available in 2002. Techlog was developed to have a familiar modern interface providing easy visualization and interaction of all the data, with a pre-arranged workflow that enabled less experienced users to follow, Techsia made the multi-well interpretation more accessible to all technical experts. In 2009, Schlumberger acquired Techsia and the Techlog platform and they currently support and market Techlog. Techlog offers new functionality in each new release, not only in petrophysical and geological interpretation but also geomechanics interpretation, uncertainty and links to the industry standard platform like Petrel. Techlog also has the new acoustics module which will add much more functionality into the application. Versions Techlog 2010.2 The Techlog 2010.2 released November 2010 added GeoFrame ELAN processing algorithms inside Quanti.min and the module was renamed to Quanti.Elan. Techlog 2011.1 The Techlog 2011.1 released May 2011 and added a new Pore Pressure module. Techlog 2011.2 The Techlog 2011.2 released January 2012 and added new Wellbore Stability and Acoustics modules. Hi bosss. My greetings to all that have been part of this thread & to @ifoundmyperfect. Am highly overwhelmed, refined on this thread. I need an assistance from anyone in the house. Although my background is from a low one, but from every contributions I saw on this thread, I believe there is hope for me. Am a graduate of Geophysics, I am IN NEED Of A JOB, I don't mind relocating my environment(in Ibadan presently). Pls your advice on what area of study I can focus on to also strengthen my field. I will so much appreciate any available Geo materials to download from you or to my box efemi52@yahoo.com. Thanks so much..... |
