Bpfems: You are a Geophysicist, yet you say you background is from a low one? Haba! What then do you expect those that read monotonous course to say? As regards "I NEED A JOB" Trust me, its just a phase. However, you are expected not to waste away but get yourself involved in activities that won't let you to totally forget what you have read in school. The easiest way is to know the area you wana get involved in (Exploration, Engineering or Hydro) and get eBooks or mentoring by senior fellows in practice, sharing ideas, just to get the mind warmed up for the task ahead. Relocating may not be much of an option with the advent of cyber space. All you need do is stay online to stay informed. Browse the sites of companies of interest to you to get their contact and send them an unsolicited email of your CV and Cover letter. You can go an extra mile by getting their contact address and sending an mail (not email) directly to the Human Resource Manager. (This method has proven quite effective lately) If you are without an experience, indicate in the email that you want to get in as an intern. Never send an email that you want to work with them without a pay. If na me, i go dey suspect you and will not hire you. From internship, you can rise to being a full time staff and also have experience in case you wont like to work there. Good luck! 2 Likes |

Thanks a bunch @ifoundmyperfect. I appreciate Sir. Although I have experience in hydro, but I felt I need to work harder with d little exprnc I have ( It interest me to dwell more on "Seismic exploration/Logging analysis"- even as market demands) |

eledacedar:What do you mean by pre-stack seismics? You mean data, if so YES. Well back in school I was taught log interpretation, nothing else |
Re: GEOSCIENTIST & PETROLEUM ENGINEER's HAVEN - Be Empowered, Enriched & Enlightened by eledacedar(f): 5:57pm On Apr 08, 2015 |
yinkeys: Geophysical data for the oil/gas industry falls into numerous categories. Seismic data is one of such.most of the seismic data available for student projects are POST STACK SEISMIC DATA which has limitations when it comes to interpretation procedures such as AVO (Amplitude Variation with Offset) analysis where you find PRE STACK SEISMIC DATA to be the best choice since you need to see the changes in amplitude preserved as original as possible. Well logs will then be used in generating synthetic seismogram which will be used to compare models based on fluid substitutions as the interpreter may want. I'm interested in AVO that's why I asked you if you've got PRE STACK SEISMIC DATA. I have lots, I mean lots of post stack seismic data and well logs too. 2 Likes |

Samtobh: Good one bro... I'm not really conversant with all necessary prerequisite one need to achieve before going for masters from Bsc (Ed). But I imagine it shouldn't be so wearisome since its still within the same science system. I don't know your academic strong links or passion. But being a first class material, I assume you must have a pretty good adaptability and versatility. I'd recommend a course in Petroleum Engineering. If you are good, with a little experience, to get work no go hard for you. Good luck. |

please,is it possible for someone that has bsc in statistics to learn software packages mean for geoscientist? will such a person easily understand? is it possible to secure job in an oil firm base on the course (statistics) and the software packages learnt? |
Re: GEOSCIENTIST & PETROLEUM ENGINEER's HAVEN - Be Empowered, Enriched & Enlightened by ifoundmyperfect: 10:51pm On Apr 13, 2015 |
barackosuco: Bro, you need a sound background knowledge of geoscience (Geology / Geophysics) software packages are just tools we just to make work easier and more efficient. What you are asking is as good as asking a mechanical engineer who has mastered how to use surgical tools and them asked to perform a heart surgery on a Patient since he can use the tools... Being a statistician, you can be a geostatistician by taking short specialise/professional courses. Such crash course are mostly done overseas and are very expensive to the best of my knowledge. If you can find a school that offer degree in geostatisitical, good for you. There are alot of people who read physics in the first degree and went for their masters in geophysics and are currently employed. If you are able to get through with it, you can be relevant to the oil industry. If I can recall, I have uploaded a book title... Application of geostatisitical to reservoir studies... Not quite certain of the title. |

Hi everybody. I must commend this thread,it have been enlightening and am enjoying it. To the professionals in the house I have a question to ask; for a petroleum engineering graduate currently running his NYSC and will be through with Nysc by July....what should be the best course of action from here for me?? cc:ifoundmyperfect,EngrBouss et al. |

ifoundmyperfect: Hello man. I'm a wireline engineer (though with electrical background) and i'm always looking to add more to my knowledge. i only just came across this thread and most of your links are down now. i'd like a copy of the first book you advertised- reservoir and production fundamentals. could you please forward to og2711@gmail.com? thanks |

Cupidkc: Cupidkc, Sorry this response is coming late... But hey, we are in July! Congratulations!!! You are a fresh graduate of Petroleum Engineering... Prospects are high for you.. Here are a couple of things I suggest you do.. Be on the look for job for fresh graduate in pet. engring... They are common... For the moment, you have no idea what branch of Pet. Engr you are likely to find yourself However, it imperative you prepare to equip yourself for any one that comes how do you do that? Keep your head clean, fresh and conversant with what you have studied in school while you wait If you have a sponsor, go for your Masters or Specialized schools that will teach you the practical rudiments in some areas in petroleum engineering... Such schools will expose you to field work and industry softwares... (but dem dey expensive oh ) Though worth its price. Learn an industry software from an experienced Pet. Engr... The few i know is Eclipse and IPM suite (Mbal & Porsper) This will increase your selling point and place you much higher above your peers... Check out the websites of companies that interest you and apply for internship. Do so via email or post. Give yourself a social professional awareness by creating a linkedin profile. (make you try look sharp)... Expand your connections when you register (no go send tom, dick, harry request becos u dey find expansion)... look for people that are within your area of discipline... Most of them avertise jobs that are available... If you have a skill-set they like, you'd get checked out and probably contacted for an interview... DO this.. Try not to stay idle... Good luck! Congratulations once again! |
