When we take pictures, we want to capture a moment…something that we can cherish later. With the advent of smart phones equipped with cameras, taking ‘selfies’ has become a craze of sorts. People go to extreme lengths to take pictures of themselves in the most bizarre situations. Sadly, for some unlucky ones, some of those moments turned out to be their last. This need for increasingly putting oneself at risk to take more spectacular and risky self portraits to outdo others on social networking platforms, needs to stop immediately.




1. This 17 year old Russian girl, Xenia Ignatyeva, took a selfie from a bridge 28 feet off the ground, to impress her friends. She lost her balance and fell on a cable,that tragically electrocuted her to death.



2. In December 9, 2012, Mexican pop star Jenni Rivera and her entourage of six, took this selfie right before taking off on a private jet which sadly crashed and left no survivors.



3. On April 26, 2014,Courtney Sanford (32) crashed her car and died just seconds after posting her selfie on Facebook, while listening to Pharrell Williams’ ‘Happy’. The crash into a truck proved to be fatal.



4. This is a selfie snapped by the famous Puerto Rican musician Jadiel, uploaded to Instagram moments before he had a fatal motorcycle crash in New York in May, 2014.



5. Gary Slok and his mother took this selfie minutes before taking off from Amsterdam on Malaysian Airlines flight MH17, which was shot down over Ukraine in July, 2014.



6. 21-year old Mexican, Oscar Otero Aguilar, lost his life when he tried to take a selfie with a gun, for his Fa.cebook page in July of 2014.



7. This 13-year-old girl named Karen Hernández wanted to take a selfie on the banks of the El Tunal river in Durango, Mexico. Unfortunately she fell into the river and drowned; firefighters recovered her body in July.




8. In March 2014 a 21-year-old man died in Jaén, Spain by electrocution when he climbed to the top of a movie train to take a selfie.




9. These two Iranian women wanted to take a selfie while singing karaoke in the car .They got so engrossed that they stopped watching the road and crashed into another car.



10. A Polish couple on vacation in Portugal tried to take a selfie on the edge of a cliff on August 10, 2014 . . . they both fell to their death. Their death was witnessed by their two kids, 5 and 6 years old respectively, who had accompanied their parents to the Cliff.




11. These two friends were headed to a bachelorette party when this picture was taken. Not a minute later they were struck, and Collette Moreno, the bride-to-be, was killed in a head on collision.



12. Jared Michael gets kicked in the head by train conductor when taking selfie with passing train. Michael died soon after.



13. Selfie of some of the Beas River tragedy victims: 48 students and 3 faculty/staff members of V.N.R. Vignana Jyothi Institute of Engineering were on a plant tour. Some of them were getting themselves photographed on the banks of the Beas river on the Mandi-Manali National Highway NH-21, when they were washed away as the water flow in the river suddenly increased.

Nurse Kills 38 Patients Because They Annoyed Her — Takes Selfies With Their Corpses



Daniela Poggiali, a 42-year-old nurse working at a hospital in northeastern Italy, has been arrested for an ongoing investigation into the deaths of 38 patients who died during her shift.


According to the New York Post, the nurse may have injected the patients with a deadly dose of potassium chloride simply because they or their visiting friends and family annoyed her. Potassium chloride injections leave no trace in the body after a few days, making most of the nurse’s murders very hard to prove.

However, Poggiali has been taken into custody for the murder of a 78-year-old patient named Rosa Calderoni who died from a potassium chloride injection that was recent enough to prove the nurse’s guilt. Calderoni had been admitted to the hospital for a routine illness and died suddenly. Investigators ran tests after her death and found high traces of potassium, which can result in cardiac arrest.

The elderly woman’s death tipped off police that the other mysterious deaths may have been foul play, namely the work of Daniela Poggiali. Authorities will continue to investigate the 37 other mysterious deaths, but it may be very challenging to prove Poggiali had any involvement. Daniela Poggiali lives in the town of Lugo.

Gawker reported that Poggiali’s coworkers were suspicious that she might have had something to do with the death of the 38 victims because the condition of certain patients would worsen during her shift, often leading to their death.


“We wondered whether these deaths could be so frequent without anyone doing anything,” said a coworker.

Others who worked with the nurse described her as a “cold, polished” person who would use vengeful tactics against patients she disliked. For example, Poggiali would sometimes sedate patients that were incessantly bothering her during her shift or even give patients laxatives to force nurses working after her to deal with the consequences. Another coworker described the nurse as a “cold person but always eager to work.”

The local Corrierenewspaper reported on the nurse’s shocking murders, stating that the nurse even took selfies with her camera phone minutes after her victims had passed away. Police searched Poggiali’s phone and found a photo taken several months ago featuring the nurse giving a thumbs up in front of a patient she had just killed.


“I can assure you in that all my professional years of seeing shocking photos, there were few such as these,” said prosecutor Alessandro Mancini.
