Fake Ds Police Arrested For Duping Traditional Rulers by smile4kenn(m): 9:33pm On Nov 12, 2008
A man, parading himself as a Deputy Superintendent of Police, has been arrested and charged to court for impersonation and extortion.

The suspect, Kehinde Abimbola, 28, a native of Ijebu-Ode, Ogun state, with no fixed address, claimed to be a police officer attached to the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Adeniji-Adele, Lagos, with uniform, identification card and police letterhead papers to back it up, and was always seen performing his official duty there.

According to a police source, his method of operation was to forge a petition from the Presidency, go to traditional rulers and tell them that he was ordered to bring them to Abuja in handcuffs.

The source revealed further that many prominent traditional rulers in Lagos, Ogun, Oyo and Kwara states have fallen victim, dolling out as much as N200,000 each to the suspect, for fear of being molested and handcuffed.

Speaking with P.M.News, Abimbola confessed that “I am not a police officer but very close to most of the top ranking officers and this prompted my being so bold to tell people that I am a Deputy Superintendent of Police.”

He also confessed that he had extorted so many traditional rulers from Ogun, Oyo, Lagos and Kwara states, who would not want to be arrested and handcuffed. “Once I showed them forged petitions from the Presidency, they would begin to shake,” he added.

Nemesis, however, caught up with him when he went to obtain money from some traditional rulers (Baale) in Ijoko,Ogun state, telling them that the Awori have written petitions against them.

The suspect told P.M. News that he got N150,000 each from the chiefs—Chief Ade Abatan, Chief Omoleyin Olalekan, Chief Taiwo Ayedun and Chief Kolawole Yusuf—all Baale in Ijoko.

He was, however, caught and arrested by police detectives at Sango, who arraigned him before an Ota Magistrate’s Court. He is now cooling his heels at the Ibara Prison, in Abeokuta.
