your friend lied. in the US anyone is free to change parties anytime. don't have to resign. however, people dont change parties like that in the US bc in the US and other real countries, parties are not mere platforms for political glories BUT symbols of political ideologies. you cant just change from one ideology to another like that. people wont vote for you, they'll call you flip flopper
