Basically, I'm a BMS student and trying to complete my portfolio. Part of that involves a presentation, ive decided to go for haematology, biochemistry or microbiology.
Are you in any of these sections? if you are, I'll just like to know what you think should be in my presentation

asha 80:

Load of rubbish.Speak for yourself. If for anything the group of guys i grew up with it was the ones that were brought up speaking english at homes that were the dullards or as we used to say 'nwa mummy'.

Where is NINETOFIVE when you need him.

As far as child B was born and went to primary school in an igbo speaking area the likelyhood of her speaking or knowing how to speak igbo is high unlike child A.

Not true. She went to primary school with children that were in the same situation as herself. I wonder why her brother and sisters can't speak the language though as they went to the same primary school if what you're saying is applicable  here. For records, their parents didn't allow them to interact with other children this is why she had to get to FGC (boarding house) before learning.

The point is, Child A didn't take any interest in other languages, Child B did and she's the only one who can speak her language among her brothers and sisters. She's learning Yoruba now grin

True but is not as if she can speak Warri language either.
Child B actually went to an international primary school and English was the only language they spoke there. Her only source of Igbo language was the short visits to the village and her years in secondary school.

@ asha and tpiah

I think the ability of a child whose parents are Yoruba, living in Owerri and been communicated to at home in English depend on the child. I know two families A and B, both are Igbo. Family A lives in Warri and speak English to their children, children went FGC around the same area they live but the children only understand a little bit of their Igbo language and can't speak it.
Family B on the other hand live in Abia, communicate with their children in English, children went to FGC in Akwa-ibom and they can speak their Igbo language fluently.
I asked a child from family B how she learnt her language, she said she learnt from friends and they go to their village as well so she was able to learn from the grandmother.
Child from family A on the other hand said she believed English was all she had to understand and therefore didn't have interest in other languages until now.

I don't know if anyone else in here heard this, but about one or two years ago, the lecturers and professors in UK were so tired of their students' written English and the way they abbreviate words unnecessarily that they were debating if they should start accepting or overlooking these mistakes. This must be telling us something though.

We have to consider the fact that in the Western world, the availability of technology to everyone (in form of computers/laptops) has made a huge difference to their CVs and that is something most people in Nigeria stuggle to posess.

Romance / Re: Marriage Is A Beautiful Institution But Why The Break-ups ? by 1honeybee: 2:08am On Jun 16, 2009
Divorce rate will increase pretty soon in Nig the way things are going. Girls seem to be marrying really young nowadays in Nig. I know people will argue with me that age is not a factor but i sincerely beg to differ. A friend of mine got married recently (22yrs) for whatever reason i didn't bother to ask her sha, but i just kept asking myself Why she'll be married at that age and stage in her life when she's suppose to be serving. Oh, she couldn't invite some people because there was no time as well, which got me wondering what circumstance(s) has brought on this marriage? Spoke to her sometime ago, just a few weeks after the wedding and when I asked after the lucky man I was expecting some excitement, I got zero on that one.
Personally at this age I believe she should be trying to realise who she really is and what she want from her life, the type of home she'll like to have and how to make that home. Been wondering if she even realise or know what it takes to SUPPORT A MAN and be the best you can.
I personally know the type of person I am, I'm a bit of little miss perfect and since i don't know what relationship with the opposite sex is all about, I've never tried it, and the same will apply to my married life. As long as I search through myself very well and know I'm not ready, I'm not ready.
Me think people do the marriage thing nowadays without even knowing who they are and what they want out of that marriage
people should start drawing out their priorities and things may get a bi8t easier.
Very sad.
