If you are adding value to the produce and not
selling directly the produce,this might not apply to.you.

These are the best time to start cultivation for good profit.
corn - Feb 20, 1st week in Sept
Tomato,Feb 15,Aug 15 (nursery should have been started before this time)
Cucumber - April
Watermelon - Feb and Sept.

You can as well drop the crop you want to venture into this season and i will be willling to.advise you the right time to start cultivation.

The main reason why the use of tissue cultured suckers is very important is that its allow use of uniform fruiting.
The thing about plantain is that it if you harvest plantain january this year january,you keep harvesting every january for the rest of the lifecycle of the farm.

If you use the normal suckers for your plantain farm,there will be no uniform fruiting meaning that you will have to harvest several times when matured which will increase your harvesting cost,transportation cost every time you harvest and overall reduce drastically your profit.
This is also what will happen for decades throughout the lifecycle of your plantain farm.

Did you see why many plantain farmers does not make profit?
Agricbusiness is profitable but you need to know the basics.

I can not overemphasizs this aspect,it is very important as any operation of your farm.

I will share some of the challenges you are to face dealing with processing companies,how to mitigate it and also how they operate ( this is essential knowledge for you to know before starting out)

I will dedicate this week to address that.


One of the advantage of using the tissued
cultured is that you have Diseased free farms- your farm can be secured from the Ravaging bunchy top virus disease if you make use of this suckers especially in ogun state where the disease is now being transmitted on daily basis.
One of challenges faced by plantain farmers is non-uniform growth of plantain which is caused by bad suckers but with the use of hybrid tissue cultured suckers, you can be assured of uniform growth.
If you have uniform growth of your plantain,they will also have uniform fruiting, (they will produce fruits at the same time and you can harvest all at the same time.
With the use of tissue cultured suckers,If you
plant 1000suckers,you can be sure that you will have 100% survival rate with uniform growth and you can also harvest all at the same time.
You will never have uniform growth making
use of the other suckers and they will not fruit at the same time.
The implication is that you have to incurred
transportatuon cost everytime you come for harvesting on the farm and also the plantain fruit from this sucker is not usually big.
Not harvesting once will increase your transportation cost,harvesting cost and overall cost of production.
With increased transportation cost,harvesting
cost and lower yield using this type of suckers you might not make profit from your plantain business venture.
